“My mother gave me a real kick toward cooking, which was that if I wanted to eat, I’d better know how to do it myself.” – Daniel Craig
The last thing my Mother taught me before she died 12 years ago was how to make coffee pudding. It became my speciality. The recipe is a well kept secret, so, don’t ask.
I’m cooking for my Dad on the weekends. We eat a lot of pasta and rice in combination with fish or vegetarian stuff. Yesterday I made an authentic Mexican rice dish. But I think it scared him off.
Maybe it was just to hot and spicy…
Well it looks yummy…..he’s all bundled up in coat/gloves so I should think if it was hot and spicy it at least thawed him out well! Coffee pudding sounds quite intriguing but I won’t ask……that’s a lovely shot of your Mom. My Mom passed away January 5, 2001….perhaps they are making coffee pudding together??
Hugs, Pam
That’s a real nice thought Pam. Thank you. Every time I’m making coffee pudding it reminds me of her, and how I still miss her everyday.
My Dad was bundled up in coat/gloves because he already started doing the dishes… 😉
My Mom made a dynamite banana pudding…..but she adored her coffee so probably WOULD like your Mom’s coffee pudding!
Pam
Banana pudding… sounds interesting… let me work on that…
Your Mom must have found my Mother up there… no doubt about that!
mmmmm you two are making me hungry! Banana pudding? Coffee pudding? Yum…
I’m convinced that you would fall for my chocolate pudding. I make it with very dark chocolate and a combination of honey and cane sugar… Still hungry girl…??
ooooooooooooooooooh you’re killing me. Killing me, I say 🙂
Killing you softly with my pudding…
HAHAHAHAHAHA
Nice! Your coffee pudding for my Colombian hot chocolate
Sounds like a fair deal but let me talk to my lawyers…
HA! Blame Herman…he started it all ! 😀
Pam
hehehe I will blame Herman for sure!
And maybe my mother found your mothers too. She made a mean rice with chorizo!
Pam, did you know that pudding is a natural flu cure? Go ask Dr. Sam, he’ll know what I’m talking about… 😉
Bless his heart, he tried it anyway even tho it was hot. How old is he? I hope you both liked it in the end. Bowie probably didn’t want to try it tho…….
Oh yes, we both liked it. My Dad turns 88 in March.
Bowie doesn’t like this Mexican rice dish. But Jones, our 18 year old kitty (she passed away July 2012) loved this rice recipe!
Some of them like really odd things. I had one years ago who loved green olives. Their tastes differ just like ours!
Jones even ate pineapple, I’m not joking…
Jones was a strange one, lol!
Oh yes she was. I’m going to post some stories about her later this year. Still got a few unused pictures of that girl… We miss her every day.
They get in your heart and stay there for sure. Old Miss Kitty was 18 1/2, and I still think of her so often. She is buried in my bamboo forest, and has a marker. Not to take anything away from my wonderful MaChattie-girl, but each one keeps a spot………….yea, tell us more about Jones!
That looks wonderful :-). Send some over to UK xxx
You can warm it up in a microwave… But it’s too spicy for the 3 Moggies! 😉
Or maybe you should have put the central heating on?
Now I’m getting the message my Dad was sending out…
I love them all: the cook, the cat and all the lovers!
Thank you Sis. Bowie says “Meow!”, I guess it means he wants you to play with him tomorrow while I’m away…
What a cute picture of your mom. Why don’t people wear aprons everyday? Are stoves usually this size in Belgium? Bravo to your dear dad to try something new, I’m the worst for pickiness but I love when someone else cooks, it’s a night off. PS. I’d love to watch Daniel Craig in the kitchen 😉
That stove was at least 40 years old but we had a second one outside on the porch. These days people use bigger ones in their modern houses.
PS: I’d love to watch Catwoman in my kitchen…
😀
Hmmm..perhaps a photo of Bowie looking at a bowl of coffee pudding? (secret kept…)
Good idea for a new post! But first, let me find a way to keep him from eating that delicious pudding…
He might be discouraged by the coffee/ chocolate ratio?
Could be, Bowie doesn’t like coffee or chocolate (but I do…).
Perhaps your father would have preferred the coffee pudding. Do you still have those small enamel saucepans? Small saucepans are just the greatest and not that easy to find.
Yes, we still got those saucepans and I still use them!
Any thing with the word “pudding” in it sound good to me. The photo of your Mother is lovely.
Thank you! Pudding is one of my magic words. The other one is chocolate…
Good Morning Herman,
Please don’t let Bowie see this post. I just had my first ‘unfollow’ moment… A blog I was following posted about their cat’s death. A beautiful, black cat like Bagheera. They wrote, ‘I am glad to see the old girl go, but I am sorry for my husband who is sad..’
This may sound stupid..but I was shocked. How could I have followed such a person? Dylan and Bagheera are like my children.
Just had to sound-off to a fellow blogger/ cat parent…
Dear Stina, don’t worry too much about it. We don’t live in a perfect world. Things like this will happen sometimes. Just cherish your friends, family and Dylan and Bagheera of course! Bowie says “Meow!”
That’s a tiny tiny stove!
Oh Susan, I kinda fooled you, it’s an optical illusion. The stove wasn’t that tiny…
But we were lucky that our Mother was a very good cook!
LOL! Perhaps Mr. Bowie would like to try some!
Too hot and spicy for me…
I’ve never had coffee pudding, though it sounds awesome! Is it similar in flavor to coffee ice cream?
Hmm, maybe I guess… It depends on how much coffee you put into the pudding. But I love it!
