About Time

Almost December, so it’s about time for another brief update. Jimi is ok, I’m ok although I’m already looking forward to the moment that the days are getting longer. But hey, I woke up with a double rainbow… signs of new beginnings, signs of hope and peace. Well, that’s what I tell myself…

Maybe there’s one minor fact: I have relapsed into an old injury, a foot stress fracture, through my own fault/stupidity, (don’t ask). Unfortunately, my walks are postponed for a few months.

I ordered new custom made shoes and shoe soles to speed up my recovery. I will be ok, there are much worse things happening in our world right now. I hope you’ll enjoy the rest of the post and the photographs.

Despite the abundant rainfall, I decided to use some additional savings to order an air conditioning and heat pump installation in combination with 24 solar panels. It was quite a fuss and a complicated process to meet my requirements but eventually everything fell into place.

Jimi was not amused and very scared for a few days due to the hard noise disturbance.

Enjoy this beautiful day, my friends, wherever you are. Peace, love and understanding.

  2. The solar panels project looked like a lot of work but should be worthwhile. And I hope your foot heals quickly. Give Jimi a scritch under the chin from me.

  3. So good to hear from you “boys” ! Sorry about the foot injury but just “baby” it and hopefully you will be good as new in no time…..Wonderful idea to get solar and updated “conditioning” for the house. I’m sure Jimi did NOT like the noise (I’m sure you weren’t happy about that part either) but in the end you both will be more comfy and save $$ on electric. Bravo! We’re about to celebrate Thanksgiving here and I am always thankful to have friends – you “boys” are on that list and we wish you also a FAST recovery and lots of “happy” !!

    Hugs, Pam and Teddy too

    • Hi Pam. Thank you so much for your kind comment and concern! I’ll be ok, just have to be patient but I’m lucky with Jimi by my side…
I planned the airco and solar panels a long time ago but there was covid, the war in the Ukraine, the prices went sky high… it took a while to get everything in order.

Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving, my dear friend! Jimi sends his regards!

    • 3 years ago it took 6 months to heal… But this time the injury is not that bad. I’ll probably back walking in January… In the meantime I’ll find some comfort in dark chocolate and espressos… 🙂

      • I really sympathise. Cat Daddy is also struggling to walk because of having had his cartilage out years ago, and it’s now time for new knees. I really hope you’re feeling better soon. Meanwhile, is Jimi a lap cat? TUC?

  4. We’re about ready to fly back to Denver, and all aboard, but in a ground delay due to a ground stoppage in Denver … snow, of course. Solar panels with an A/C and heat pump install, that’s a serious upgrade. You must be the most modern house in your neighborhood.

It’s a holiday week here in the USA, so putting up the feet, dark chocolate, espresso sounds good.

Take care of that foot. Jimi will help since you have the ready-made lap.

    • Hi Deborah. Thank you so much for your kind comment!
It’s kinda funny, my house is 30 years old and still one of the most modern (or odd looking) house in the street…

Wishing you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving week. I hope you have a good time together. Wishing you all the best.

  5. Sorry about your foot. I had a stress fracture a while back. Had to wear a boot for six weeks. At least with the boot it didn’t hurt to walk. Bet Jimi is glad the install is done!

    • Hi Patricia. Thank you so much for your kind words and concern!
Jimi had a hard time during the installation. All that drilling was way too loud for my poor friend…

    • Thank you so much, M.B. Glad you liked the post and the photograph!
I’m very sensitive for seeing unexpected things around me. They can make my day… The double bow day turned out to be a fantastic day! 🙂

  6. Hey hi hello Belgium boys! It’s still so beautifully green in Belgium and how wonderful to wake to a rainbow! Double lucky 🙂 So funny, I was doing some sewing yesterday and turned over the spool to see the colour name. There wasn’t one, but it said, “made in Belgium” and I thought of you two.
Sorry to hear about your foot injury, that has got to cramp your style. No more dancing in the moonlight 😉 I hope you’ll heal quickly Herman.
I imagine the install of your new HVAC meant jumping through some permit hoops. We’re so reliant on natural gas in our home, it’d be nice to have solar. A bit funny how they’re balancing the solar panel on a step ladder and the trees, that must be how professionals do it, ha! Poor Jimi, I’m sure it was distressing to share your home with noisy strangers. Back to normal though, safe and sound with your dad. Take care friends! 💗 from Canada

    • Hi Kelly. Thank you so much for your kind comment and concern! It’s always a pleasure to receive such heartwarming comments from you.
We had a few sunny days last week and it was amazing to see how the solar panels delivered enough power to heat my house without using the natural gas. And yes, it was very scary to see how those guys were walking and working on the roof. Jimi didn’t like all that drilling and loud noise…

Thanks for hanging around all these years, my dear Canadian friend! Wishing you a great week ahead! Jimi sends his regards!

  7. So sorry to hear about your foot dear Herman and we hope you will make a smooth recovery 🙏 Jimmy is looking well and we can imagine how relieved he’ll feel that the noisy installation is over! Please give him a gentle pat from us all 💕🐈

    • Thank you so much for your kind words and concern, my dear friend! This really means a lot to me.
My new custom made shoes arrive this week, let’s hope they will speed up the recovery process…
      Jimi sends his regards!

  8. Oh, fully converted to eco…we are still economical on oil…only with more inspections and better calorific value…heat pump is still future technology here…but we drive new diesel, which also tolerates alternative eco-diesel90… E-cars only have 1 percent here in our area…and our power lines are too old to retrofit… Good Luck…have a good Advent Season! ❄️🦃🎅

    • Thank you so much for your kind comment, my dear friend!
E-cars are very popular in Belgium but I’m still driving a diesel car too… 😦 I would love to buy an e-car in 2024 or 2025. I’m very impressed by the solar polars so far…
Wishing you a great week ahead! Jimi sends his regards!

  9. Sorry to hear about your “agony of di feet!” I hope you recover quickly. Beautiful scene to wake up to. Jimi looks like a cool cat, and will be a cool cat with your new central air and solar panels. Your solar should work well. Although we have lots of sunshine solar panels are not as efficient out here because they get too hot.

    • Hi Tim. ‘di feet’… hahaha… love this comment!
I was wondering if solar panels were popular in your area. Everyone living in my street installed solar panels and overall they are very popular in Belgium. We also get financial support from the government, so it’s a win-win situation…

      • There are a lot of solar panels out here. In some cases acres and acres of them. Good designs are like at Costco where you park under the solar panels. Solar is heavily subsidized by the government here, also, but it’s still expensive.

        • Yes, it stays very expensive too in this part of the world. But it compensates the high energy prices I have to pay recently, and it soothes my conscience a little bit…

  10. I am glad to hear that you are both doing okay but for the foot injury. I hope your foot heals quickly, my friend. The double rainbow is beautiful and you sure got a good photo of it. Jimi is looking great and I am pretty sure he is enjoying life without the noise. Take care. Hugs and nose kisses from Chancy and me.

    • Hi Mags. Thank you so much for your heartwarming words and concern! It’s always a pleasure to read your comments, my dear friend.
My new custom made shoes arrive this week, so they will speed up my recovery process. Seeing that double rainbow in the morning made me feel so emotional. We just have to appreciate such beautiful things in life.
Wishing you all the best, my friend! Jimi sends his regard to you both!

  11. AC is a welcome addition to the home when temperatures soar. The solar panels will spare you the high cost of energy, of course, helping make the AC practical. Best wishes on the foot, Herman. Foot injuries always are miserable!

    • Hi Doug. Thank you so much for your heartwarming words and concern, my dear friend!
I wanted an AC and solar panels for a long time. The solar panels are doing a great job so far, even in these dark autumn days… Looking forward to cool summer days in my living room.

      • I know AC made a huge difference for me, after several years of enduring summers without working air conditioners. I finally gave in and called the landlord when I was living through weeks of 33º C and higher inside. They replaced the AC that same morning, taking the temperature down to a more comfortable 24º C! Frankly, I was more worried about my cat Andy than me.

  12. The heat pump and solar panels seem like a good investment. Jimi will forgive you when he is toasty warm! He is looking very handsome. Poor foot…may it recover soon! Best wishes.

    • Thank you so much for your kind words and concern, my dear friend! This really means a lot to me.
The solar panels are doing a good job so far, I’m really impressed…
Glad you liked the post and photographs! Jimi sends his regards!

    • Thank you so much for your kind words and concern! Glad you liked the post and the photographs.
      Jimi sends his regards!

  13. Well, what a cutie pie Jimi is these days. Great photos. I love the double rainbow. I have never seen one in person, but maybe one day. I’m sure Jimi will enjoy the AC in the summer, too. God bless and peace to all!!

    • Hi Polly. Thank you so much for your kind words! Glad you liked the post and photographs. Seeing such beautiful things in nature, like that double rainbow, makes me feel very emotional.
Wishing you a great week ahead, my dear friend! Jimi sends his regards!

    • Hi there, my dear friends! Glad to see you again en happy that you liked the post and photographs.
Open windows… oh yes, you can count me in! I’m picking up my new shoes next Friday and planning my first walks early January…

  15. The double rainbow is beautiful, Herman! The old tree and mushrooms make a nice composition, too. Jimi is is usual handsome self.

I am sorry to hear about the stress fracture. I ran track and field when I was young, and had a few of those myself. I am glad you are getting special shoes. They do help.

Heat pumps are great, and help keep the cost of heating down. The solar panels are a wonderful thing, too. Sounds like you and Jimi are getting ready for winter. Stay well, stay warm!

All the best from everyone here, dear Herman and Jimi!

    • Hi Lavinia. It’s always a pleasure to see you again on the blog. Thank you so much for your kind words and concern, my dear friend!

I’m picking up my new shoes and extra soles next Friday. It looks like I can go walking again early January. But I’ll be very careful in the beginning… In the meantime we’ll enjoy our new heat pump. Jimi already found some sweet warm spots upstairs… 😉

Seeing that double rainbow in the morning made me feel happy for many hours. I’m always trying to enjoy and appreciate those beautiful little things in life.

Have a great week, dear Lavinia! Jimi sends his regards to everyone at the Farm!

  16. Oh no, your foot, I hope the different shoes will make it feel better and heal quick. Jimi would have been scared with all the noise of construction but he doesn’t understand how much more comfortable you will both be with these improvements. I’ve been MIA from my blog world for a while, all is well but just some things going on. I need to get back to it! Be well dear, and spring will come………….

    • Hi Charlotte. Thank you so much for your kind comment!
I picked up my custom made shoes today so it will speed up the recovery.
The surplus of energy I’m not using goes back into the grid. But we receive a small fee for that process. I’m going to wait at least one year to buy a home battery. They are still very expensive…

Wishing you a wonderful weekend, Charlotte!

      • My Mum and Dad were only talking about it when they were visiting. Dad was concerned about storage of power as I think solar panels in the uk go into the grid first and then you can get your power back with standing charges or something every month, you don’t have control over it.

        • We have total control over the solar panels. I can use all the power they deliver. The surplus of power goes into the grid and like I mentioned, we get a small fee for it. It’s a little bit weird and too bad you can’t control your own solar panels.

  17. Good to hear from you! It sounds like you are being a bit too hard on yourself with respect to the foot injury. The rainbows and that tree are so magical! And Jimi, well, cute as every. Take good care, and hugs from Pamela and Samantha Jo.

    • Hi Pamela. Thank you so much for your kind comment and concern. Glad you liked the post and photographs!
I’m wearing the custom made shoes for a week now and I feel a lot better.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend, my dear friend! Jimi sends his regards to Samantha Jo!

  18. Wow, that looks like quite the project, but glad you are able to use solar panels. You’ll have to keep us updated on how well they work.

I feel your foot pain, Herman. I had plantar fasciitis for nine months several years ago and had a hard time going for walks. It also required me to stop buying cheap shoes and invest in those that support my arch and foot. I hope this heals quickly for you so that you can get back to daily walks and your regular routine. Hugs from across the pond, from Gibbs, Hoshi and moi!

    • Hi Mary. Thank you so much for your kind comment and concern. It’s always a pleasure to meet you here!
I’m wearing my new custom made shoes for over a week now and I can already feel some improvement. I hope that I can go walking early January. I miss my walks, they help me to relax and find some peace of mind.
The solar panel are doing a good job so far. On a sunny day I can heat up my house for free with the electric heat pump. Jimi already discovered the warmest places upstairs in the studio…

Wishing you a wonderful weekend, my dear friend! Jimi sends his regards to Hoshi and Gibbs!

    • Hi Julie. Thank you so much for your kind comment and concern! It’s always a pleasure meeting you on my blog.
Since I’m wearing my new custom made shoes, I feel it’s getting better every day. I hope to get out early January. I really do miss my walks in the nature…

Wishing you a wonderful Sunday, my dear friend!

  19. Hi Herman, so sorry about your foot injury although I bet Jimi is pleased with the extra attention he would be getting while you can’t get out and about for a while. Most people have solar panels and air con here with our hot climate and we have just gone a step further with two solar lithium batteries, in addition to the panels, so now our electricity bill is in credit! Look after yourself and a special pat for Jimi!

    • Hi Jill. Thank you so much for your kind comment and concern. It’s always a pleasure to hear from you!
I’m going to wait at least one year to see if it’s profitable to place a battery. So far the solar panels are doing a great job with heating up my house during the day.

Wishing you a great week ahead, my dear friend! Jimi sends his regards!

      • Solar panels are everywhere here as they’ve been around for a long time and there are lots of deals and government rebates. The batteries are gaining popularity but are still quite expensive so I can understand why you are holding off for now. We did the same thing. I think they will pay for themselves quickly though. We have 3 reverse cycle air cons which we use summer and winter!

        • Solar panels became very popular over here, also due to interesting government rebates and the very high energy prices, especially since the war in Ukraine. A solar panel technician told me 20% of the solar panels owners also buy batteries.
It also gives me a good feeling to see that a lot of people want to do something about the climate change and choose for alternative energy.

    • Hi Sir Albertus. Thank you so much for your kind words and concern!
Wishing you a wonderful ending of the year, my friend!

    • Thank you so much for your kind comment and concern!
I’m feeling a lot better thanks to my new custom made shoes.

Wishing you a wonderful ending of the year and a fantastic start in 2024! Jimi sends his regards!
