A Good Friend

So many books, so many friends. I always like to have a good book around to read, it’s like having a good friend. Mark Twain said, “Good friends, good books, and a sleepy conscience: this is the ideal life.” Ernest Hemingway said, “There is no friend as loyal as a book.” I can only confirm that they were both right.
One of many reasons why I consider myself lucky is because I have another good and loyal furry friend. Are you waiting for a bedtime story, Mr. Bowie?

Fuzzy

Your mind is all fuzzy. Why are you so tired and exhausted? Your brain needs sleep like a car needs gas and humans need chocolate; neither runs very well on empty. “Among other things, your body uses sleep to stabilise chemical imbalances, to refresh areas of the brain that control mood and behaviour, and to process the memories and knowledge that you gathered throughout the day,” says a famous researcher. Mr. Bowie is a wise cat.

Conversation With a Cat

img_8358

Don’t you ever change your mind
Now your future’s so defined
And you act so deaf and blind
Come on, come talk to me
Come talk to me

“Come Talk to Me” – Peter Gabriel

Enjoy this beautiful day, my friends, wherever you are. Peace, love and understanding.

Is It Safe?

Safety check. Ensuring that the garden area is safe after the gardeners team left requires careful planning and monitoring. Materials such as sand and wood chips are soft enough to fall asleep. Provide some shade, cool water and treats in the play space, and an espresso machine for the human. Keep children and other little creatures safe indoors.

Thank goodness forecasters say summer is here to stay!

PS: The catnip plants are in a safe place.

Not Amused

I really want to go out! Mr. Bowie is not amused at all because he has to stay inside. A gardeners team is taking care of the annual garden clean up. Big and dangerous machines are making a lot of noise outside. We had to wear ear plugs indoor to enjoy our espresso and treats… Nevertheless we will make up for it tomorrow! Glad the summer is not ending…

Just Another Heat Wave

Belgium is now also officially in heat wave. The heatwave is expected to last several days and has already seen temperatures rise as high as 35 degrees Celsius. Yesterday, we enjoyed the hottest day of the year. It’s too hot to work in the recording studio so we have enough water and beverages ready, and reserve our place to relax in the shade.

Mr. Bowie joined me this morning at 7 o’clock to read the newspaper. What a nice place to enjoy the morning sun, my friend. I love the quiet of the morning, the peaceful calm of a day starting up. Oh did I mention the espresso and dark chocolate?

Enjoy this beautiful day, my friends, wherever you are. Peace, love and understanding.

Plain Water

IMG_8192

Are you serious? You invite your friends over to party and this is all I get? Water… plain water? After the stress and the traumatic event of last week?

Hold your horses, Mr. Bowie, don’t give me that Clint Eastwood look! A recent study shows that drinking more plain water can help you avoid excess calories and control your weight.

Enjoy this beautiful day, my friends, wherever you are. Peace, love and understanding.

Facts About July 21, 2016

July 21 is the 202nd day of the year (203rd in leap years) in the Gregorian calendar. There are 163 days remaining until the end of the year. I was born on July 21, some say it was on July 22, though. July 21 is also Mr. Bowie’s Gotcha Day. Although the ideal weather conditions for a traditional guerrilla-surprise-pudding-party we had to postpone it due to unexpected circumstances. However, despite that, my lovely niece had a delicious surprise for me and Mr. Bowie… The chocolate thingy is mine, Mr. B!

Summer 2016

Worst. Summer. Ever. I’m having the worst summer ever? June recorded as one of the wettest and dullest starts to summer ever. The weatherman predicted persistent, heavy showers with the risk of thunder and hail for the next weeks. Summer on hold, forget the sun cream. The majority of Belgians don’t believe they will have a hot summer.

I love to eat breakfast outside and it has to be a quality time. Every day we have plenty of opportunities to feel sad, get angry, stressed or offended. Thank goodness the sun was shining this morning. Enjoy this beautiful day, my friends, wherever you are. Peace, love and understanding.

Indoors

Fantastic day. Due to bad weather conditions Mr. Bowie has to stay inside today. He doesn’t seem to mind. Looks like he’s having a good time.

Just wondering, now that it’s officially summer, you’d expect the weather to be warm but where’s the sunshine? I’m giving in to the magnetic pull toward a bar of dark chocolate.

All In Red

IMG_8151

Belgium’s on fire. Last night, the Belgian national football team a.k.a. the Red Devils, defeated Hungary and scored three late goals to secure a 4-0 win. Thanks to a superb performance by Eden Hazard they reach the Euro 2016 quarterfinals of the Euro 2016 competition.

Mr. Bowie is totally ready to meet Wales with his star striker Gareth Bale in the quarterfinals.

Sneaking Out

IMG_8114

Forbidden zone. When I return from shopping, I leave the front door slightly open so I can carry my groceries inside. Mr. Bowie will always try to quietly sneak out the door. But this place is off-limits for Mr. Bowie. Although I’m living in the countryside, there have been already two cats killed on the road last month. Regrettably, one of them was my neighbour’s lovely cat.

This is the look Mr. Bowie gave me when I told him to go back inside. Believe me, it’s a dangerous world out there, Mr. Bowie.

Seven

IMG_8092

Life is like a box of cat treats. Mr. Bowie turns seven today. If you think about it, seven cat years, he’s catching up really fast with my human years.

Cats like to squeeze themselves into small boxes. But I thought hiding some treats inside this box would be a nice surprise for our hero. Happy Birthday, Mr. Bowie!

Manic Monday

IMG_8077

It’s just another manic Monday. Hey Mr. Bowie, I know today is Monday and you assume it’s going to suck but just smile, because the sun is shining. It should actually be a really nice day; 25 degrees Celsius and vanilla ice cream. Isn’t life grand, my friend?

May 1

IMG_8069

Warmer days ahead. May 1 is the 122nd day of the year (in leap years) in the Gregorian calendar. This post is not about the date May 1 or the International Workers’ Day. It’s about Mr. Bowie holding on to the sunshine. Finally, temperatures in this part of the wold will be a warmer later in the week. It’s time to buy vanilla ice cream for Mr. Bowie and coffee ice cream for the human. Yeah!

Traps

IMG_8065

Finally, we made it through the winter and spring is in the air. Mr. Bowie is outside enjoying the first warmer days. I’m looking forward to having breakfast and espresso outside. But first I got to get rid of the snails in the garden. Let’s set out some beer traps. We need to secure Mr. Bowie’s catnip plantation.
