Almost November

Where do I begin? Maybe I should start my twice a year rant about the DST (Daylight saving time)? We’re setting the clocks back by one hour next weekend. I can already feel my SAD (Seasonal affective disorder) waking up in my mind. I know people say each season has it charmes, and it might be true. But I wish summer lasted for 12 months. Okay, there would be no spring to look forward too…

You can also see in Jimi’s behaviour something is changing outside. He returns back inside to the sofa much earlier now the days are shorter and cooler. A few days ago he was caught in a rain shower and asked me gently for a towel.

The local internet provider offered me a 3 month free subscription for a ton of sport channels. So last week I was watching live the football match (soccer) Liverpool vs Manchester City in the Premier League. Jimi wasn’t interested and fell asleep after a few minutes…

Life can be full of surprises, like opening a little jar of coffee pudding and seeing this drawing on the inside. Does it mean I have to share this dessert with Jimi?

Enjoy this beautiful day, my friends, wherever you are. Peace, love and understanding.

  1. I love the picture of Jimi mid-scream! You won’t be surprised to hear that Le Roi hasn’t retreated indoors at all. He’s still in summer mode. 🙄

    • Jimi doesn’t like towels… He runs back outside if I want to dry him. Mr. Bowie loved to be wrapped into a towel.
Right now we’re enjoying the Indian Summer. Temperatures will rise above 20º Celsius next days! A good time to have ice cream outside in the garden… 😉

    • Hi Tim. I wouldn’t pay to see sport on tv, but this one was a free offer. And occasionally I can enjoy a good football match.
I don’t understand why they still keep hanging on that irritating DST system. I wish we got rit off it…
I didn’t know you had a Soundcloud account. Thanks for the link, there’re a lot of songs to check out (like the Stinky Cat song).

      • I hadn’t sent you a SC link before? Shame on me. A little skunk slipped into the catio a few weeks ago and Spunk was trying to protect us from the we beast and got sprayed point blank in the face. Spunk cam tearing into the house and ran around stinking u[ the place. Cats clean themselves up from skunk spray, but I had to sleep with a stinky cat. He cleaned himself up all that night while lying on me.

I have a lot of songs on SC that have not been published on my blog.

        • I can’t remember you sending me the SC link but maybe I just forgot it? I’m looking forward checking out more songs. I always enjoy the songs you post on your blog.
My goodness… what a story about the skunk accident! It’s a bit funny Spunk rhymes with skunk… 😉

  2. SAD is bad enough for humans but pets find it impossible to cope with the hour change as it affronts their sense of decorum. Where is our food?! Love the message on the pot lid 😉

    • Hahaha… yes, it’s always very difficult for a few weeks because our pets don’t understand this DST system. They want go to bed if it’s time… 🙂

  3. I suppose with drought and fires a yearly summer event in my area, I have come to love the darker, wetter winter season. 🙂

The smiling cat face on the inside of the pudding lid is precious! Wishing you and Jimi a wonderful week ahead, Herman! 🙂❤️🐱

    • Hi Lavinia. I can imagine you’re looking forward to darker and cooler days, regarding the circumstances. And there’s always spring to look forward too…

Jimi doesn’t like the coffee pudding. He prefers vanilla or blueberry flavours.

Jimi sends his regards to all the cats on the Farm. Wishing you a great week ahead, my dear friend!

  4. I’m with you on DST……quite silly! Coffee pudding sounds amazing – I’ll have to see if I can find this treasure at the grocery. Teddy is not a big fan of a towel but he doesn’t mind getting soaked in the rain so it “requires” a towel before he can come inside again. I just drop it on his back and reach down and dry him before he has a chance to squirm out of it! Not easy with a 28-lb. cat. That’s a great photo of Jimi. Sending you and Jimi big hugs ……

    Pam and Teddy too

    • Hi Pam. I always have to hide the towel. If Jimi spots a towel, he will not come inside… Mr. Bowie didn’t mind a towel rub.
The coffee pudding is made by Danone, Danette Expresso. I don’t know if they sell it in the US of A.

Wishing you a wonderful week ahead, my dear friends! Jimi sends his regards.

      • You’re right – not in the US of A (boo hoo) BUT I did discover that Danone makes one of my favorite brands of yogurt – OIKOS – which IS available in the USA so not sure why not all of their products! Oh well………….. 🙂

  5. Dear friend, I share your woe. Winter on the Canadian West coast (frequently called the “wet coast” means sullen, miserable skies, and sulking miserable rain. After a summer of drought and water rationing this year I thought – thank goodness. We lived in Amsterdam for a time. I learned the Dutch way to fight the gloom with candle light – on the kitchen table – during the day. A lot of good books. And something wonderful baking in the oven. Cheers to the winter ahead, Virginia

    • Hi Virginia. I do need sunshine, every day at least for 20 minutes. I’m already getting a depressed feeling after 2 dark grey days. But I’ll admit lighting candles on those days make me feel a lot better. And thanks for the suggestion about something wonderful baking in the oven. I’m going to try this for sure… maybe a chocolate cake?

Wishing you a great week ahead, my dear friend!

    • Hi Christine. Oh yes, this is my favourite pudding, made by Danone.
Wishing you a wonderful week ahead, my dear friend! Jimi sends his regards!

  6. Hello dear Belgium boys 💗 I really do relate to your feelings about winter. It’s dark by 6:30 pm here and my family falls asleep shortly after dinner, LOL. Since I sleep till the crack of 9 or 9:30 am, I’m left to entertain myself, usually in my craft room. We haven’t had snow in Edmonton, but southern Alberta got it good on the weekend. Doesn’t that seem backwards? I actually have flowers still blooming in their summer containers, so odd.

Hehe, I can imagine the scolding you got for leaving poor poor Jimi out to get sprinkled on 😁 Of course it’s hard not to rub those exposed tummies while our kitties are sleeping. I don’t feel too bad, since they are content to wake me at all hours for pets. Of course, I always oblige because they’re just irresistible. Stay well my friends 💗xK

    • Hi Kelly. Oh no… don’t mention that awful word “snow’! It gives me the shivers… Right now we’re enjoying an Indian Summer with temperatures above 20º Celsius. I know I should worry about the climate changing but having ice cream and espresso’s outside at the end of October… well, I’m sorry to say but I love it! 😉

Wishing you a wonderful week, my dear friend! Jimi sends his regards!

  7. Not looking forward to DST either. It’s already getting darker earlier here and I miss the evenings when I could go for a walk. Great photos of Jimi.

    • Hi Correne. Glad you liked the post! I don’t like the dark mornings and evenings. And I’m already looking forward to the next spring… Meanwhile, I’m enjoying the little things in life.

  8. I hate the time change too, just because it’s confusing for about a week. For you with SAD, oh that’s bad. I know you don’t like fall anyway and now Jimi says he doesn’t like it either. Ohhh coffee pudding, we don’t have that! Did you share any with Jimi? Be well dear.

  9. I agree, DST needs to go. It causes confusion for no good reason. Lovely photos of Jimi. He feels as I do about football! You must keep each other cheered up. Best wishes from my motley gang XX

    • I’m waiting for the day that DST is cancelled for good. I don’t understand why it takes so long…
To be honest, I prefer watching a good movie instead of a football match. But Jimi falls asleep anyway, no matter what’s on tv… 😉

  10. Jimi is a cutie. I would like the fall to last all year long, it goes by too quickly. How fun to find a cat in your pudding. 🙂 XO

    • Glad you liked the post, much appreciated! To be honest, fall isn’t that bad although I prefer spring as my favourite season. But I hate winter, cold temperatures, snow… So I’m already looking forward to the next spring…

    • I prefer watching a good movie on tv. But Jimi doesn’t care, he just falls asleep every time, no matter what’s on tv… 😉
Have a wonderful week, my dear friends! Jimi sends his regards!

  11. I love your little surprises in life. Jimi sleeping in an adorable manner and the little drawing. Sorry summer is over for you, but I wish you well in the coming seasons.

    • Hi Polly. Thank you so much for your kind comment! I’m doing my best to see some little things to enjoy each day. Like having an extra espresso on a cold and rainy day. But right now we’re enjoying a wonderful Indian Summer with temperatures above 20º Celsius…

  12. Farmers and ranchers prefer standard time for work purposes. The real push is to make daylight time permanent here in the USA. The “however” is that it stays darker longer in the morning during the winter months. I prefer it stays on a standard time cycle.

My DST story is that it started early in the year (1974) in response to the ongoing energy crisis. On the first morning, it was dark waiting for the doors to open at high school, at 7:45 am, with classes starting at 8:15 am. Nancy and I were going to meet for an early breakfast at a nearby diner. We both forgot. Both of us overslept our alarms. When we met up at a school, it “dawned” on us we missed breakfast. Of course, dawn wouldn’t come until closer to 8:20 am. Nancy’s mom, who worked at the high school as a secretary, asked Nancy if we met up for breakfast. She said no. “I need two cups of coffee, one for me, one for Dave.” At the time, neither of us were major coffee drinkers.

My question … when did you join Jimi sleep through soccer match? 🙂

    • Hi David. Thank you so much for sharing this story. I still find it so weird, there’s so much disagreement and dissatisfaction about DST but it takes so long to find a good solution.
I read an interesting article yesterday about a European study to create 3 new time zones in Europe (West, Central and East), each with their own fixed and stable standard time. But it will take many years of meetings, discussions in the EU parlement to make this work…

Hahaha… yes, I do join Jimi a lot with falling asleep while watching tv. One more thing, I watched a recent Showtime documentary film (2022), ‘Sheryl’, about Sheryl Crow’s career. It was quite good and interesting. It made me play her debut album Tuesday Night Music Club again a lot.

      • I read about the documentary on Sheryl Crow. There are a lot of ins and outs when it comes to performing. We/Elizabeth have had our share. It’s not all glam. A lot of hard work goes into being successful. We had a pair of days where our rehearsals were all-day affairs … we just couldn’t find the sound. And, we had another rehearsal that evening after dinner. We did find our groove late. I do find debut albums to be the best efforts of an artist. I think it’s the energy, the love and the perfection that is invested in that kind of project.

Would my daughter make an album? You would have to ask her, but I believe she likely won’t. We have enough material for a CD/DVD offering. It’s matter of making it work where everyone can be happy with the final product. She’s okay with a couple big efforts and a few small club dates in between. Same with the band. It’s more about the music. That’s why you don’t find too many rich musicians.

We’re still pretty much on a high. Elizabeth’s showstopper from Saturday night, if you’re not moved by it, you have a heart of stone. It’ll post in a couple of weeks. The music posts aren’t about me, but about my daughter. She’s a girl loaded and blessed with a lot of talent.

Make sure you get plenty of light. It’s said an Ott lamp/light is good for SAD, but you have to run it day and night and sit near it. Of course, you turn if off at bedtime.

        Purrs to Jimi.

        • Thank you so much for your comment and telling me how you see things concerning your music adventures. I’m always very impressed to see and hear how everything you guys (and girls of course) are doing sounds and looks so good and professional. I can only dream of reaching such heights myself… And I wish I could express myself a little better in English… 😉

I was also very impressed by the latest post on your blog. It’s always a pleasure to hear and enjoy such great songs.

Oh yes, and Jimi sends his regards!

          • We’ve been very fortunate, very blessed to have the success we are enjoying. When they say being in “the right place, at the right time,” it is pretty much a truism. Especially in entertainment, even more in music. The core of our band, we know each other from church music. Meeting Cassie Ellis, that was a chance meeting. If she came at a different time, in a different mood, we may not have connected. And, she can tell you stories of how it’s pretty much a “hit and miss” business. Cassie has missed on her share of projects too.

Your English is fine. You do better than most of us with English as our language. 🙂

            • Thanks, David! You are so right. I remember getting a very important studio job just by being at the right place at the right time with the right friends. But having good friends and family is probably the most important…

    • Thank you so much, Jennifer. Glad you liked the post!
Right now we’re still enjoying a warm Indian Summer with temperatures above 20º C. Having an espresso outside in the sunlight makes me feel much better…

  13. I agree with you on daylight savings time. I stopped even bothering to change my car clock, the microwave one or the one on the stove.

As for the rest of the clocks, I bought atomic clocks, which adjust forward or back as necessary, thanks to a radio signal from a National Institute of Standards and Technology station in the neighboring state of Colorado.

Best thing I ever did, buying those clocks!

Oh, I do have a radio clock I manually adjust since it has simple controls. It used to adjust automatically by a signal from the state’s public radio network. That signal magically around over the electrical wiring.

    Love the sleeping Jimi photo!

    • Hi Doug. Most of my clocks are adjusting themselves. I got a few timers controlling some safety lights but I leave them alone because adjusting them is so difficult and deep menu diving…

Glad you liked this post and the sleeping Jimi photograph! Wishing you a wonderful weekend ahead, my friend!

      • Likewise you and Jimi!

Yeah, reminds me of the time I bought a new car and wanted to get on the road because it had been a long negotiation. The salesman insisted on setting the clock. I told him it wasn’t necessary, that I’d take a look at it later. “No! I can set in in a short time for you.”

Over half an hour later, he finally figured it out – and that was with an instruction manual!

I owned that particular car 13 years, I like it so much, but I only reset the time once – the first year – and decided it wasn’t worth the effort.

        • Exactly! I can picture the scene. I often got a feeling the Tech industries make their products unnecessary difficult to use…

  14. I remember the rant about changing the clocks last year. Just don’t do it. Whenever you have an appointment, you’ll not be late just early. Great photos of Jimi. We cats don’t watch tv here much in reality, we just come down for the company. In a few more days it will be freezing at night again and we shall all be hanging around in the warm spots and blanket piles or in front of the fireplace.

    • Hi Greg. Glad you liked the post and the photographs. Much appreciated!
Jimi likes to keep me company while I’m watching tv. He doesn’t care what the program is. Mr. Bowie didn’t like sci-fi movies, I guess he hated all the lazers and warp engines… 😉
We’re still enjoying the Indian Summer but next week the temperatures will drop down below 20º Celsius.

      Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

  15. Oh! I am the opposite, when I read the first line I got so excited! Yay! We are changing our time soon! I prefer standard time over Daylight Saving Time and I am so excited to be wearing socks! There are fewer months you have to endure standard time and the cold . . . . . you can do it! I will be happy for the next few months and I will come back to complain when we change the clocks again and it is hot! Cheers!

  16. Oh he is so beautiful … he looks for the world like he is talking to you! And to think, he’s not interested in sport! Probably dreaming about vanilla pudding 😊 Wonderful photos Herman, pat that kitty for me please ..

    • Hi Julie. Thank you so much for your kind comment! Glad you liked the post and the photographs. It always gives me a very good feeling when Jimi’s keeping me company while I’m watching tv. He’s such a sweet boy…

  17. Hi Herman! Jimi has turned into such a handsome boy and like Gibbs, finds that sleeping on his back is most comfortable when the weather turns or there’s nothing interesting going on.
Our weather is changing as well, although this week is supposed to be nice. I’m not looking forward to the cold or shorter days. I bought myself a special light to use on the gray days through winter and wish we could go back to spring in January. I love snow for Christmas, but don’t like what comes after.
Well, I hope you and Jimi get a few more days of being able to sit on the patio with a warm sun and espresso in hand. Hugs to you from myself, Gibbs and Hoshi.

    • Hi Mary. I just saw your latest post and enjoyed all the beautiful photographs. Sorry to read about the accident with the glass door… Wishing you all the best!
Today we had the last day with temperatures above 20º Celsius. We’re going to get cooler weather and rain showers from tomorrow. As you probably already know, I just hate snow but it’s ok for one day maybe… 😉
It’s funny to see Mr. Gibbs and Jimi sleeping both on their back. I just love it when Jimi keeps me company while I’m watching a movie on tv. Jimi sends his regards! Have a great week, my dear friend!

    • Hi Pam. Thank you so much for your kind comment! That kitty face on the pudding was so joyful, always love this warm surprises.
Glad you liked the post and photographs! Wishing you a great week ahead. Jimi sends his regards!

Ciao 😉

  19. Jimi is looking really well – despite the rain. 🙂
Daylight saving always got to me too, when I lived in the UK!
And when I saw the cat drawing on the lid, I assumed it was a treat for Jimi! Are you sure you opened the right food? 😀

    • Hahaha… I was lucky it was coffee pudding and Jimi doesn’t like that so I could enjoy my dessert in peace…
I had a minor health issue with Jimi a week ago. It looks like he’s allergic to my Greek yoghurt…

    • Hi Cornelia. Coffee pudding (and chocolate mousse) is one of my favourite desserts, and it’s very popular overhere. But Jimi doesn’t like it at all, thank goodness! 😉
Wishing you a wonderful weekend, my dear friend! Jimi sends his regards to Moshu!

  20. I hate the fall back hour, I’m an early bird anyway and when I want to go to bed at 0930 instead of 1030 its not very good as George is working most nights at the moment and doesn’t get home till 1030 so staying awake until 1130 is exhausting. That plus the rain, rain and more ☔️!

    • Hi Charlotte. I can picture the scene. I’m already looking forward to the end of the year because the days will be longer again. I’m an early bird too, but waking up while it’s still dark isn’t much fun…
