The Guard Post

Shedding new light on a geopolitical hotspot, confronting the myth of a war between a cat and two blackbirds.

Enjoy this beautiful day, my friends, wherever you are. Peace, love and understanding.

  1. That’s a wonderful photo of Jimi. Hmmm. Myth of war you say? Who’s winning this mythical war of two against one?

      • I think Jimi can hold his own. He strikes a strong, Emperor-like profile. He’s not going to take any bird crap form the birdie bullies.

        • Well, it looks like you are right. The two pesky birds didn’t show up today after Jimi’s impressive stake out yesterday…

    • Hi Lavinia. Thank you so much for your kind comment!
I wish I could send Jimi over to help you with the vole outbreak but unfortunately due to the Covid-19 measures it’s not allowed to travel abroad… πŸ˜‰
Jimi sends his regards to Mr. Nano and the cat crew!

  2. Herman what an incredible photo capture of Warrior Jimi declaring “his” yard off limits to the pesky blackbirds. Those birds make a lot of noise but in the end, they don’t want to tangle with an imposing figure such as Jimi ! I really love that photo………it’s perfection.

    Hugs, Pam (and Teddy)

    • Hi Pam. Glad you liked the photograph and the post! Personally, I don’t mind those blackbirds but Jimi… well, that’s another story! πŸ˜‰
Jimi is out there everyday and chases those pesky birds out of ‘his’ garden…

      • They sometimes “dive bomb” Teddy out in the yard – especially if he’s anywhere near the bird feeders! They also are pretty noisy sometimes warning off other birds but I love all critters (except snakes!) so they’re all welcome to enjoy our yard like WE do!

        • Hahaha… I’ve seen that too in the past with Mr. Bowie. One time he came running back inside with 2 blackbirds flying close over him…
But you are right, we have to love and take care of all living creatures.

  3. Every cat needs a lookout station! My tortie Agatha patrols the entire yard from a cat tree on the porch. Nothing escapes her notice. Looks like Jimi is in the same class of guardian!

    • Mr. Bowie didn’t jump on this flowerpot a lot but Jimi loves to use this height to overlook the garden. I had all the time to take photographs of the guardian of my garden.

    • Hi Kelly. I think Jimi wants to go to the Olympics in Tokyo. But unfortunately, we’re still waiting for our vaccin first… πŸ˜‰
Glad you liked this post. Have a wonderful weekend, my friend! Jimi sends his regards!

        • It looks like I will get my first shot somewhere in May. We don’t know which one in advance but I have no real preference. Though with the J&J you only need one…

    • Well of course… cats do always win in the end! To all those pesky birds out there, this is a serious warning… πŸ˜‰

    • Hi Patricia. Jimi seems to think this position makes it possible to catch a blackbird. But I’m afraid he’s wrong… I was lucky to shoot this beautiful picture.

  4. This may be true for Jimi but Pearl as in indoor cat can only dream of such hunts through the window. How impressively majestic he looks!

    • Jimi is a very lucky cat to have his own private garden. Last year he was always very anxious when he was outside. But now he seems to enjoy his time outside.
Glad you liked this post! Hope you’re having a great weekend!

  5. Dear Jimi, considering the problem of why birds can fly and he can’t. It does seem really unfair. He has grown into a gorgeous boy. Good luck Jimi! Herman, I hope your spring has arrived and stayed. The warm time is your favorite. Have a good weekend!

    • Jimi turns 3 in September so I guess he’s a big boy now. We’re having sunny days but the temperature is way too low for the end of April. But hey, if it doesn’t rain we’re all happy.
I told you about my plans or that ‘something’ is going to happen/change in the garden. Unfortunately, it’s postponed for 3 weeks due to Covid-19 problems with the delivery company. I’ll keep you informed…
Wishing you a great weekend, my friend! Jimi sends his regards!

PS: as always, thank you so much for the tweet!

    • Thank you so much for your kind comment, Greg! Glad you liked this post and photograph.
Hope you’re having a wonderful weekend!

    • Hi Micheline. Thank you so much for your kind comment!
Hope you’re having a wonderful Sunday. Jimi sends his regards!

  6. Every great cat like Jimi needs a post like that one, being able to look over who might intrude his territory. His great posture and face expression are telling that he is taking his job very serious. Have a great espresso and chocolate filled week, Moshu is saying.

    • Hi Cornelia. We’re having a lot of sunny days the last weeks but still a little bit too cold for the season. But Jimi doesn’t mind, he’s having a great time in the garden.
Hope you’re having a wonderful Sunday. Jimi sends his regards to Moshu!

    • Jimi likes to jump up there a few times in a week. Guess he likes the view up there… but I’m afraid the blackbirds will always be a little bit higher… πŸ˜‰

    • Don’t think Jimi’s going to be a best friend forever with the blackbirds… But it’s so funny to watch.

    • Hi Julie. Thank you so much for your kind comment! I’m glad Jimi finally likes to hang around in the garden. Last year he was always very nervous and anxious when he was outside. I’m looking forward to enjoy the warm summer days with him in the garden…

  7. Hi Mary. It’s seems the blackbirds are a little bit afraid of him because they don’t show up as much as they used to do. But they are still out there, and have a nest in one of the trees. It looks like everybody is happy with this situation…
Hope you’re having a great weekend, my friend! Jimi sends his regards to Mr. Gibbs!

  8. You are going to have to build a suitably imposing edifice behind him, just to set him off, such as the lions in front of the Art Institute.
