CIA. Cat Intelligence-agency (C.I.A.) field offices have to find a delicate balance between blending in and providing adequate security for the humans. Jimi is very good in blending in while I’m reading the newspaper and having my morning espresso.

Meanwhile, this part of the world is going in the wrong direction due to the rising Covid-19 infections. The National Security Council closely monitor the situation and we’re looking at new reinforced measures.

Enjoy this beautiful day, my friends, wherever you are. Peace, love and understanding.

Watching the Detective

What’s up, Doc? Cats seems to sense when something is wrong. Jimi noticed strange sounding noises in the neighbourhood and went outside to check it out. It appeared to be my neighbours working in their vegetable garden so everything was safe. Thank goodness there were no idiots, even some morons carrying heavy armer, outside protesting against COVID-19 measures like in other parts of the world.

We’re almost 2 months in lockdown modus. Up to last week my family and friends were all safe and healthy. Unfortunately, recently some friends got sick due to the Corona virus. And an elderly couple in my circle of friends passed away both, in one week time. This is hard and confrontational.

That night, to my surprise, I heard a certain idiot in the U.S. of A. saying his country is doing great compared with some countries in Europe, especially Belgium. Well here are some other facts. Public healthcare in Belgium scores well thanks to its combination of health insurance and social security contributions. Belgium didn’t need to deploy a 1,000-bed hospital ship or set up field hospitals in parks or convention centers. Even during the highest peak almost 50% of the hospital beds with respiratory equipment in the COVID-19 IC units were still available. Why is Belgiums death toll so high? According to Belgian authorities, that’s because the country has chosen a reporting system that differs from pretty much every other country’s method of counting.

Okay, sorry for talking politics. Next post will be about cats and a dead fish. And now if you’ll excuse me, I need an espresso and chocolate. Stay safe and healthy!

Enjoy this beautiful day, my friends, wherever you are. Peace, love and understanding.

SAD, again. December 21 is the shortest day of the year in this part of the world. This day will boost my mental energy because the days themselves will only keep getting longer. This thought helps me to fight my SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder). I need to go outside and enjoy my walks in the sun. And have espressos. And chocolate.

Get up, Sir Jimi! Don’t feel sad, spring is just around the corner, well kinda…

Enjoy this beautiful day, my friends, wherever you are. Peace, love and understanding.

Higher Ground

What’s up, Jimi? Jimi is doing fine, but he wants my attention and food all the time. That’s why I gave him Skinny Jimi as nickname, because he needs to put on some weight. Mr. Bowie could disappear for hours or a day, but you knew he was around somewhere. I had time to read the newspapers, clean up the house or do anything I wanted to do. Ok, Mr. Bowie was 10 years old and a happy relaxed cat; Jimi is a young hyperactive cat who enjoys your attention and wants to play (and sleep) all the time. I have to keep this in mind and drink less coffee, I guess…

A few days ago I found Jimi on top of the bookcase. What happened, Jimi? Did you hear about the global warming and the sea level rise? Did you hear the Blonde Pillow Thief is back in town and wants to pay you a visit? Or did you want to check out Mr. Bowie’s safe shelter?

Jimi loves Mr. Bowie’s King size bed. It took Mr. Bowie almost a year before he decided to sleep in this luxurious cat bed. Jimi made up his mind from day one. If you’ll excuse me, I think it’s time for another espresso while Jimi’s asleep…

Enjoy this beautiful day, my friends, wherever you are. Peace, love and understanding.

Jos, 2 Years Later

Hello there, Jos! A few days ago, I paid my best friend a surprise visit. Thank goodness he’s also an espresso aficionado and dark chocolate lover. We talked about our art, design and musical projects while having some delicious espressos. We also love to share our sources of frustration on a global scale. And it was fun seeing Jos again. The little furry friend is 2 years old now and a very handsom fellow.

Enjoy this beautiful day, my friends, wherever you are. Peace, love and understanding.

Dangerous cold, snow, sleet and rain today. No Mr. Bowie, we can’t go outside. It’s even for a furry four-footer way too dangerous. How can I mentally survive winter? Do people really love winter that much? Can humans survive hibernation in good condition? Hmmm. I guess I’ll stick with espresso.

Enjoy this beautiful day, my friends, wherever you are. Peace, love and understanding.

Huff & Puff

Eat, drink and be merry. I developed a taste for good coffee and chocolate years ago, but it’s likely the result of genetic defects. The smell of freshly brewed coffee can be hard to resist. I can recognise good espresso and dark chocolate when I smell it miles away.

A cat’s nose is its most important organ. The world of a cat is the world of scents and odours. It is said that cats have a sense of smell fourteen times better than humans. Cats also use their sense of smell to detect the new treats you just bought.

“Let me in, let me in” cried Mr. Bowie, “Or I shall huff and puff and blow your house in!”

We hope you’re enjoying a warm, happy holiday season. Mr. Bowie says “Meow!”

Enjoy this beautiful day, my friends, wherever you are. Peace, love and understanding.

Just Another Heat Wave

Belgium is now also officially in heat wave. The heatwave is expected to last several days and has already seen temperatures rise as high as 35 degrees Celsius. Yesterday, we enjoyed the hottest day of the year. It’s too hot to work in the recording studio so we have enough water and beverages ready, and reserve our place to relax in the shade.

Mr. Bowie joined me this morning at 7 o’clock to read the newspaper. What a nice place to enjoy the morning sun, my friend. I love the quiet of the morning, the peaceful calm of a day starting up. Oh did I mention the espresso and dark chocolate?

Enjoy this beautiful day, my friends, wherever you are. Peace, love and understanding.

It’s sum sum summertime. At last the summer is finally here! Warm weather today and heatwave set for the next days. Now we’re talking! No excuses to get outside and enjoy milkshakes, ice cream and yes, even a strong hot espresso. The photograph below is from a few days ago. It’s Mr. Bowie’s favourite place to hide from the rain. Well, those days are over.

Enjoy this beautiful day, my friends, wherever you are. Peace, love and understanding.

Mr. Bowie feels overwhelmed. He received a beautiful card from my sister, she’s his #1 fan. Mr. Bowie is looking forward to seeing her again. He misses her so much. So do I. Having espresso together always puts me in a better mood.

Espresso time. My espresso capsules order arrived today and as always, Mr. Bowie conducted a thorough control to ensure the overall quality. Every time Mr. Bowie wakes up and smells the coffee, he knows it’s time for a treat.

Today is my mother’s birthday so I raise my espresso cup to her. She taught me to drink and enjoy coffee when I was a child. She would have turned 88 today. Happy Birthday Mom, wherever you are.

Summer Is Gone

Dusty sings ‘And it looks like the summer is over.’ Over recent days the temperature dropped below 20 degrees Celsius and my seasonal affective disorder (SAD) kicked in. Summertime sadness. Winter blues. Nelly sings ‘All good things come to an end.’ So true.

I’m going to miss having breakfast and coffee outside on a beautiful morning. Just like last Sunday, when my sister joined me for a ristretto espresso. Inside the house, Mr. Bowie woke up from his nap and asked if he could join us for treats. Thank goodness Mr. Bowie helps me to get through this SAD story.

Don’t Touch!

Please don’t touch! Stay away from my breakfast, Mr. Bowie, trust me. Chocolate mousse and an espresso ristretto, the breakfast of champions. This will provide an energy boost to my body, helping me last longer throughout the day.

That Look

That look you gave me. That’s Mr. Bowie’s – “Give me a cat treat! Now!” – look. I can see some resemblance between him and me (when I’m yearning for dark chocolate and espresso). Pleased to meet you, Mr. Bowie.

Facing the Elements

Facing the cold. It was a bright cold day, yesterday. When the cold weather comes, a lot of people hang up the bikes for the winter. But not my Dad, he surprised us with a visit. He’s one tough dude! We had espressos and chocolate. And cat treats for Mr. Bowie, of course… They enjoy being together. My Dad turns 90 in March.

The Only Way Part 2

No, thank you! I prefer the stairs to the ladder.

Safety should always be your first concern when using a ladder. Ladders are the single greatest cause of DIY deaths. I’ll stay on the ground floor and have a cup of espresso.

My Favorite Things

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens. Waking up Saturday and Sunday mornings. Having an espresso with a Cha-Cha candy bar in pleasant company of Mr. Bowie, Sis and occasionally the blonde pillow thief. These are a few of my favorite things. All together now…

The Chief Function

A fact of life. The chief function of the cat owner is to carry the famous cat around as it suits him. If you’re lucky, you might find time for an espresso and dark chocolate. But don’t assume it’s going to happen. Life can be hard and unfair. For a cat owner.
Good night, good morning, and good luck.

Same Place, Another Time…

Black, hot and pure. My espresso machine broke down and it is no longer profitable to have it repaired. I went to the Antwerp Nespresso Boutique to buy a new one. What is a man without a cat, chocolate or an espresso machine? Lost and helpless.

While I was waiting, someone caused a huge commotion amongst the customers in the Nespresso Boutique Bar.

Mr. B is inside

Not this time, my girl… It was George Clooney or Matt Damon. I’m not sure…

Message From My Cat #18

Just wondering. Why does the smell of your espresso makes me sleepy? I’d always thought that the coffee helped me stay awake…

Editor’s Note: Dear Mr. Bowie, it’s either you are dehydrated or you have developed a heavy tolerance to caffeine. Caffeine is one of the most commonly-used drugs. I have a similar problem. I have developed a heavy tolerance to chocolate.
