Hottest Day

Hottest day of the year again for third day in a row. The hottest day of the year so far has been recorded, with temperatures exceeding 34º C (93,2º F). So we have to stay cool and hydrated. Water is essential for keeping you cool during hot weather. And ice cream.

Enjoy this beautiful day, my friends, wherever you are. Peace, love and understanding.

    • Hi Hedy. I’m always having a hard time with the first hot days. After a few days I get used to it and enjoying it a lot. Especially the extra ice cream…

  1. You and Jimi need to eat lots of ice cream and drink lots of ice coffee to stave off the heat. Hang in there my friend. We have had temps up to 105ºF (40.5ºC) but the humidity was only 10%. We got 1.4 cm of rain last night. Not a lot, but rain all the same.

    • Thanks for your wise advice. We fully agree! Thank goodness we’re only having 3 hot days, the temperatures will drop from tomorrow. Normally I enjoy hot days in July and August but I need some time to get used to it. Meanwhile there’s ice cream and ice coffee, of course…

  2. It was 33°C here yesterday. Louis Catorze spent the day sunbathing and barely drank any water. I don’t imagine that will surprise you in the slightest.

    • Jimi drinks a lot of water during the whole day. Thank goodness for that. Mr. Bowie, just like Louis C, barely drank any water. I prefer a strong espresso, even at noon, and ice cream of course (coffee flavour).

    • Haha… yes, that’s probably true. But thank goodness Jimi loves to drink water during the whole day.
      Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

  3. One of the local restaurants serves a peach milkshake – now that’s rather heavenly…..You boys please stay cool (although both of you are VERY cool no matter what time of year it is…tee hee). It’s been in the upper 90s here but today we have a beautiful and breezy break with a high of 72. Sending you summery breezes and hugs.

    Pam and Teddy too

    • Oh Pam, thank you so much for your kind comment! And yes, a peach milkshake sounds very delicious or like you said, heavenly. I haven’t seen one in this part of the world. Maybe I should make one myself, I used to make a lot of banana milkshakes.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend, my dear friends! Jimi sends his regards!

  4. We Canadians leave in fear of heat waves. They are frequent. So far, so good, but we have had thunderstorms. We use central air-conditioning, powerful through-the-wall air conditioning, hand, my favourite, a personal air conditioner.

    • Hi Micheline. The last 10 years we are also having a lot of heat waves, followed by heavy thunderstorms too. I don’t have airco in my house, but I’m thinking about it. I really do enjoy warm days, but not the hot days during a heat wave.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend, my dear friend!

  5. The above comment posted itself. The personal air conditioning device is a tiny refrigerator plugged into a computer. One uses water. It is “live” in fear and “and.” Dear little Jimi.

    • I’m using 3 ventilators; one in the living room, one in the studio and one in the bedroom. But Jimi doesn’t like the noise they make…

      • The noise does disturb both humans and cats. My apartment has hotel air-conditioning. It is noisy, but cannot be heard from the bedroom. The little refrigerator is not noisy, it is gentle on the environment, and it is very inexpensive.

  6. yes, they are almost all retreating and the plants sometimes curl up, but the heat is already crumbling from the north – here currently only 16 C / 9 pm at the sea – have a nice sunday anyway

    • Thank you! The temperatures dropped 10 degrees today… what a relief! Time to get myself another hot espresso! 😉

  7. We are having extreme heat here, and it is predicted to last at least another week. It rains, but then the humidity is worse. I am so thankful for the air conditioning! Next month when the bill is due, I will try not to complain about how much it cost.

    • Haha… I had those kind of bills too! Thank goodness there’s no airco running in my house, only a big freezer with a lot of ice cream… 😉

  8. That is very hot for this time of year, Herman and Jimi. Please stay cool and hydrated!

It has been a long, cool, and wet spring, and although it is warming up now in June, June is also cool and wet. We are grateful for all this rain going into fire season.

    • Hi Lavinia! We also had a rather cool and wet spring this year. Normally these high temperatures only happen in July and August. Thank goodness this morning the temperatures dropped 10 degrees C.

Have a wonderful Sunday, my dear friend! Jimi sends his regards!

    • Oh yes, no problemo! I got a big freezer filled with a lot of ice cream. So I’m definitely ready for a long hot summer…

    • Haha… no no… I had to take a few precautions like buying more ice cream, milk shakes and fruit juices. Thank goodness the temperatures dropped with 10 degrees C today.

  9. “…and ice cream.” – Your posts are always smile provoking! Great persepctive on that photo as well!

It’s cooler than norm right now in Ecuador, thanks to the Humbolt Current bringing cool waters up from Chile. It’s like waiting on shoe to drop, however, as eventually the cycles will change – or not, the climate is shifting, adjusting, etc……. Stay cool, eat more ice cream. I think I’ll go make a coffee milkshake!

    • Thank you so much for your kind comment! Glad you liked the post.

I’m always trying to put something in my posts that can make people smile. And yes, coffee and ice cream might be my favourite subjects… Strangely, I never tried a coffee milkshake, thanks for this idea.

I like warm and hot sunny days but still, I’m glad the temperatures dropped a little bit today. But it won’t stop me from having ice cream this afternoon… 😉

      • oh my – put a bag of milk in the freezer, then blend it with instant coffee (good quality) and a few tablespoons of chocolate powder makes it even more decadent.. use however much sugar you’d normally use – not the right time to be frugal with the sugar! enjoy!

        • Oh… oh… oh…!! Wy didn’t I think about this great idea. Thank you so much for your recipe! We’re going to try it out on the next hot day…
          Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

          • ja! i watched a friend make it – the dried coffee doesn’t dilute the milk, but he dumps a LOT of sugar in it — which makes it really really nice. At home it’s hard for me to put such a large amount.. anyway, it’s a great treat on a hot day!
(why am i suddenly hungry for a coffee milkshake?!) sometimes i just buy the soft chocolate swirl ice cream and dash home (about two minutes on foot) and then pour a very condensed coffee (cafe pasado) over that. swirl in a bit of milk and you have another way to make an instant milkshake!

            • Your comments make me wanting all the cool refreshing stuff… Personally, I don’t like sugar in my coffee but it’s ok in shakes and other delicious desserts. I wonder if it’s allowed to make a shake on a cool Sunday afternoon… 😉

  10. Oh Jimi, look at you, I know, cats don’t like the heat, just like my Moshu , she is miserable when it gets too here in Southern California, she actually goes hiding in cooler and darker places, like under my bed. You both hang in there, it will be a summer filled with lots of ice cream, hopefully some espresso ice cream too.

    • Hi Cornelia. Jimi is just like Mr. Bowie, they both love the cool shadow places in the garden. The cat before Bowie, Jones, loved to sleep in the full sunlight, even at noon. I was always afraid she would caught fire…
I’m happy the warm days are finally here. But thank goodness the temperatures dropped a little bit today.

Wishing you a great week ahead, my friend. Jimi sends his regards!

  11. Poor Jimi. He looks tuckered out! I hope you get some relief soon. England is not geared for such heat. My spoiled kids have air conditioning but it is a must here when summer really sets in. Keep cool guys. Love from us all XXX

    • Temperatures dropped almost 10 degrees (C) today, thank goodness… It’s again very pleasant to have coffee outside, and ice cream of course! 😉

  12. Hello friends, sorry to hear about the heat you’re having. Sometimes it’s just too much. June is typically our rainiest month and this year has been no exception. Here, its rained for part of everyday for over a week. Our river is very high and running fast. But I’ll take that over heat. Looks like Jimi decided to sleep through the heat wave, he’s so cute. Take care and enjoy extra ice cream 💗

    • Hi Kelly. This heat was really too much… Thank goodness temperatures dropped almost 10 degrees (C) and it’s very comfortable to be outside again with my espresso. Jimi is also chasing the sparrows and black birds again, but without any luck (thank goodness)…
Have a great week ahead, my dear fiend! Jimi sends his regards!

    • Thank you so much, M.B. Thank goodness the temperatures dropped down today and I could enjoy my espresso outside in the garden, in the company of Jimi.

    • Hi there, my dear friends! I hope you can stay cool too and have some refreshing treats… Thank goodness the temperatures dropped down this week. I can enjoy my espresso again outside in the garden in the company of Jimi.
Wishing you a great week ahead, Jimi sends his regards!

  13. Oh yea, lots of water and lots of ice cream. And layIng in the shade in the garden is good for Jimi. I hope your heat soon breaks! Stay safe dear. 👍

    • The temperatures are mid 20ºC right now and we love it! Jimi even likes staying in the sunlight in the morning and evening. Me, well I still prefer sitting in the shade…
Thanks for your tweet, my dear friend! Have a wonderful day outside in your garden.

  14. Hello dear friend, just a note to say thank you for your message at my Blog. I couldn’t reply there because I had to reschedule it to June 30th, I had made an error typing the date.
Honestly, I’m so scatterbrained as of late. I need some ice cream, chocolate and a nap in the garden. Move over Jimi 😁💗K

    • Hi Kelly. I’m sure Jimi would enjoy your company in the garden. But sharing his ice cream… I don’t think so! 🙂
Wishing you a wonderful weekend, my dear friend! Jimi sends his regards!

  15. Oh…it’s cool where you are!
We have had 100 to 103(F) weather for weeks here in Texas AND no rain.
This week is supposed to much better— in the 90s.
And maybe, just maybe, a thunderstorm. But after this week, temps are going back up higher again.

    • Hi Mary. You definitely have to buy a lot of ice cream, I guess… that’s the only way to stay cool. We’re not used having such high temperatures in this part of the world. But I do love the summer…
Wishing you a great week and stay cool!

  16. England is being England at the moment, I was up in Northumberland at the weekend at a beach wedding, one minute hot and sunny next minute clouds and rain then back to sunny very bizarre changes in just an hour. Hope you both keep your cool 😎

    • Hi Charlotte. The temperatures are stable at mid 20 degrees Celsius with a lot of sunny days and almost no rain. Jimi’s having a great time chasing butterflies. Mr. Bowie was always hunting after spiders (and eat them) but Jimi prefers butterflies. Me, well, I prefer ice cream… 🙂

    • Let’s hope it will get a lot warmer soon… I bought this big water bowl especially for the dual function: you can use it as a water bowl and a swimming pool (for cats)! 😉

  17. Hi Herman! I hope your hot days have passed and you have more seasonal temps. Shortly after you posted this, my friend and I went to Missouri for vacation. It was really hot most of the week, but we survived and returned to cooler weather in Wisconsin. Yes, it’s important to hydrate and stay cool and I hope that’s what you and Jimi are doing today.

    • Hi Mary. Glad to read you had a good vacation. The temperatures in this part of the world were mid 20ºC the last weeks. But from next Monday we’ll have very hot days, hot like 40ºC (104ºF). That’s too hot for me, and Jimi.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend, my dear friend!
