The Missing

Summer’s here! Late spring/summer finally arrived in this part of the world, after weeks/months of rainy and cold days. Temperatures are above 20° Celsius and everybody is so happy, especially from a mental point of view. Sunlight is often perceived as a cure to your health, however, because of risks of sunburn and skin cancer, we need to be careful how much sun we get. But it feels so good to have breakfast outside in the morning sun…

Unfortunately, there’s someone who’s going to miss the daily rainfall. Jimi went outside between the rain showers to drink fresh rainwater almost every day. Mr. Bowie also loved to do this, probably as most cats.

Jimi stays outside the whole day and is still discovering all the special places in the garden. Some of his favourite spots were also the spots Mr. Bowie liked to stay for hours. I noticed he prefers to stay in the shadow from noon. One of my previous cats, Mrs. Jones, was a sun cat. She stayed in the sunshine, even on the hottest days during a heatwave. Jimi loves to disappear under the numerous bushes.

Finally, I just got the message I’m getting my Covid-19 vaccine next week. I should had it weeks ago but due to a human error or computer failure, my name was removed from the list in the local vaccination center.

Enjoy this beautiful day, my friends, wherever you are. Peace, love and understanding.

  1. Love the photos and Teddy is also a fan of rainwater drinks! We finally have some sun here too and now that you have that lovely spot of covered space spending more time outside enjoying fresh air with Jimi will be more plentiful! So happy to hear you will be getting your vaccination Herman. I have to admit I feel much BETTER now that I’ve had both of mine……a sense of safety although we’re still VERY careful! Enjoy some chocolate treats today to celebrate!

    Hugs, Pam (and Teddy too)

    • Hi Pam. Glad you liked this post! I’m happy to get my vaccination next week, finally… We will still have to be careful but I’m sure we will feel a bit safer.
And now, we’re enjoying our espressos outside in the shadow with my furry friend…

  2. What a lovely photo of a very handsome cat! Glad you are getting your vaccination. I hesitated a while deciding which one to get and finally got the one shot version. I was very sleepy the next day but no other reaction. I was exposed several times so I was a little concerned my body would overreact but I didn’t even get a sore spot. I guess I don’t have to tell you to treat yourself to coffee and chocolate as a reward.

    • Hi Angela. We fully agree with your conclusion at the end of your comment! 😉
In a perfect world I would avoid getting strange chemicals in my body. But this is a serious global problem and I believe everyone should get a vaccination. I’m getting the J&J one shot vaccine. We can’t pick or choose the vaccine, it all depends on the deliveries in the vaccination center.

  3. Congrats on getting the vaccine next week. We felt a great sense of relief when we got ours. Enjoy the sun. We could all use a good dose of feel-good sunshine.

    • Thank you! Glad you liked the post. We all need a good dose of feel-good sunshine on a regular base. And maybe in combination with ice-cream and espresso… 😉

  4. That’s great you will finally get vaxed. Jimi looks happy drinking from the puddles and enjoying the outdoors.

    • Hi Tim. A lot of younger people were vaccinated the last weeks and I didn’t get an invitation. Glad it’s solved now and I’m getting my shot next week. It looks like I’m getting the J&J vaccine. You can’t choose the vaccine you want in this part of the world. But I’m ok with the one shot vaccine.

      • We couldn’t choose here either. I think it had to do with availability. Laurie and I got Phizer. Tristan and my sister got Moderna.

        • Personally, I didn’t had a preference but just getting one shot is maybe a benefit. It’s only important to get vaccinated.

          • Laurie’s brother who is a nurse who works for an immunologist said all the info they get shows the first shot gives you reasonably complete protection.

    • Hahaha… why didn’t that surprise me? I know cats are special but Louis is the most special one for sure! 😉

    • Thank you so much for your kind comment! You are so right, it’s very important to remember our loved ones…

  5. Andy likes to eat snow, I suppose because that;s available off my shoes in the season. Aw, the deprivations of the indoor cat! Of course, he likes to spend a good part of the day by the open door now that it’s left open this time of year. The breeze, scents, fresh air are all appreciated!

Jimi response looks like your backyard is suitable for all cats, and he joins the notable cats in your life finding the same spots that made it a favorite of all! Bravo to you for creating such a perfect spot for cats and humans, Herman!.

    • Hi Doug. Jimi is a very lucky cat, just like Mr. Bowie was, to have such a beautiful garden. And I’m very happy to have such a good friend to keep me company when I’m having a break outside. I love spending time in the garden while having warm weather like today… Hmmm… guess it’s also time to get some ice cream! 😉

    • We were wondering if the summer was skipping us this year… Glad we can finally have breakfast outside…
Kosmo is so right about drinking rainwater. Jimi sends his regards to his friend up North!

  6. Jimi looks happy in the sun and drinking the rainwater! A little sunshine gives everyone a boost. I’m glad you are getting your vaccine soon, Herman.

    • Hi Leah. Seeing sunshine when waking up gives me a boost to get out of the bed. And it puts a smile on my face…
Glad that I’m getting the vaccine next week. Finally…

  7. Glad to hear you will be finally getting your vaccine Herman!

I bet the ghosts of the missing still wander the gardens, and Jimi has had a chat with all of them. You have provided a wonderful place for your kitties, past and present Herman. ❤

    • Hi Lavinia. I’m so happy now with the warm sunny days. Jimi’s having a great time outside and he really likes it out there. Maybe he’s guided by the spirit of Mr. Bowie…
Wishing you a wonderful week, my friend! Jimi sends his regards!

  8. Hi Herman and Jimi, there is something about how days filled with sun make us all so very happy, especially when you both have breakfast outside under your new little roof?

I wonder if Jimi could still get a smell of Mr. Bowie in some places of your house, like in some hidden corners?
I can imagine the smell of fresh brewed espresso wafting around in your garden.
Have a great sunny and happy week ahead of you and I’m happy to hear that you get your vaccination finally. Regards from Moshu to Jimi

    • Hi Cornelia. We’re enjoying the first warm summer days a lot, especially out there in the garden. I’m glad Jimi likes to be in the garden. Last year he preferred to stay inside but it seems he’s enjoying his time outside…

Wishing you a great week, my friend! Jimi sends his regards to Moshu!

  9. Yes, your vaccine! That is wonderful that you can get it now. And the garden, Jimi enjoys it his own way and your breakfast and coffee out there will be so good for you every day. Enjoy every minute!

    • Thank you so much! I’m glad to get the vaccine, finally. Maybe it’s a shame they dropped my name from the list last month but hey, everything is ok now. I never gave up following the rules and keeping myself isolated. And I will stay very careful…
It’s remarkable to see how Jimi changed and loves to be outside. I have to catch him in the evening because he wants to stay outside all the time… But I also want to stay outside…;-)

As always, thank you so much for the tweet, my friend!

      • Tweet, sure! It’s so good you were able to get the vaccine. Everything feels just a little safer after the vaccine, but many people here still wear masks, because so many people will not get the vaccine. Jimi is such a happy cat, out there in his garden! And you, enjoying the beauty. 🙂

        • Wearing a mask is still one of the rules in this part of the world. But a relaxation of some rules are expected next week because a lot of people are vaccinated. Next month almost everyone should be vaccinated, some idiots and anti-vaxxers excluded… 😉

Have a nice weekend and enjoy your time in the green garden!

    • Thank you so much, Christine! I went through some difficult weeks but finally the future seems to look bright… I’m also glad Jimi loves hanging around in the garden. Last year he preferred to stay inside but I guess it was all a bit overwhelming for the little guy.
Hope you’re having a great week, my friend! Jimi sends his regards!

      PS: thanks for the tweet!

    • So sorry to read you got to stay in the garage, my friends… Jimi also uses the garage but it’s his bedroom, he’s not allowed to sleep in mine… 😉

Looking forward to read about the adventures with driving the car…
Jimi sends his regards! Stay safe and healthy, my friends!

    • Welcome on HoB! Thank you so much for your comment. I saw some beautiful cats in your ‘Lysander’ post on your blog…

  11. Hello Belgium Boys! Sounds like things are going well for you both there. Jimi’s enjoying the garden and you’re finally getting a vaccine. Bonus, the days are warmer too. La vie est belle !
We’re having excessive heat over the next couple of days. Today was 29C and tomorrow 30C. After a mid morning walk, I enjoyed the AC all day. It’s way to hot for this gal. I’d have to hang out with Jimi in the shrubs because I’m all about the shade 😅❤️ xK

    • Hi Kelly. We had 29°C yesterday so we had ice cream in our new spot outside, obviously. Jimi disappears and hides in the shadow during the hottest moments of the day. I’m glad summer is here, hopefully to stay… 😉
I postponed my daily walks in the afternoon, it’s too hot and I prefer something cool…

  12. It is so reassuring to read you have a vaccine date. The relief one feels after the fact is incredible. One doesn’t realize exactly how much stress your are holding in until that actually happens. I am now due for my second. That will be a champagne day! Take the wonderful days and enjoy. Cheers Virginia

    • Hi Virginia. I’m very happy to get my vaccin next week, especially because I should had it in May. I’m living almost completely isolated for so long and it gives me a good feeling to see almost everyone get vaccinated in this part of the world. I know we still have to be careful in the future but like you said, I’ll have a champagne day next week!

      Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

    • Hi Julie. Thank you so much for your kind comment! I’m always think it’s so weird that some parts in the world are having the opposite season; we’re going for summer while you’re going to winter…
Yes, I’m glad to get my vaccin later this week. I know we still have to be careful but the vaccin gives you at least some protection.
Jimi sends his regards! Enjoy your Sunday evening!

  13. The heat wave is scheduled to cross the Atlantic. Jimi may search for a cool place. Belaud did. I’m glad you will be vaccinated. That vaccine is essential. Have a good Sunday my friend. 🙂

    • Hi Micheline. Thank you so much for your kind comment. We’re having a great Sunday and had some treats outside. More warm sunny days the following week so you can guess I’m happy. Jimi fully agrees from his spot in the shadow…

  14. What nice pictures. We love the one of you sunning yourself. My Dad and I was to go for our first vaccine shot was the same day we were diagnosed with COVID so

    • Hi Crystal. So sorry to read this news… Hope you both get well soon!
I’m trying to keep a low profile on this blog, pictures of Jimi are far more interesting. 😉

Glad you liked the photographs. Thank you!

  15. Jimi has grown into a beautiful cat. He looks very contented. Hope your vaccination goes well. I will be having the second one next week. Enjoy your nice weather!

    • Hi Jill. Thank you so much for your kind comment! Jimi has changed a lot since he moved in from the shelter almost 2 years ago. He was so small and tiny. It took relatively a long time for him to get used to his new environment. But nowadays he loves his new home and I’m happy with his company.

Good to see you’re getting the second shot. I’m looking forward to finally getting my vaccin too… In the meantime we’re enjoying the warm summer days!

    • Hi Charlotte. Jimi really enjoys his new place outside, and I love having my espressos outside too… 😉
Personally, I wish I could avoid the vaccin because I don’t like getting strange chemicals in my body. But I realise we all need it so we can return back to a normal life. Unfortunately, (a lot of) chocolate can’t beat the virus…

      • That’s how I feel about it too Herman. I wish I didn’t have to have it especially with all the scare stories buy I realise the importance of protecting others that I would come into contact with. George wants to get a little bistro set to sit on outside on the balcony but Ikea have the tables but no chairs sadly and other makes are so expensive at the moment.

        • Sounds very good, George’s idea about the little bistro on the balcony. I used to check out second-hands stores or thrift shop. It’s sometimes unbelievable what you can find, and very cheap.
When my Dad passed away in December, I donated all the furniture, household for kitchen and other stuff to a local thrift shop. Some things were brand new.

    • Hi Mary. One of my previous cats preferred to drink water from bottles. It was so funny to see she sometimes waited so long for us to fill her bowl with water from a bottle…
