One Fine Day

Letting the days go by. It’s been a while since a wrote a post. I’m still busy with getting everything about my Dad’s passing officially in order. I was shocked to see all those papers required by the government. But it seems I’m almost at the end of an unpleasant task.

Last week I had one, no, a few fine days. I watched the latest Spike Lee film, David Byrne’s American Utopia, a concert film from a critically acclaimed Broadway performance. The film includes several songs from Talking Heads and David Byrne’s solo career. David Byrne is joined by 11 musicians, singers and dancers from around the globe. I also enjoyed the brief monologues from David Byrne when he addresses various sociopolitical topics from police brutality, immigration and climate change. After watching a few songs you want to jump up, dance and sing with the musicians on your TV. This concert film makes me feel good, every time. David Byrne’s American Utopia calls on all of us to think, connect and dance. The musical masterpiece is thought provoking and gives us exactly what we need today. Something to celebrate life.

And you may ask yourself, “Where is that beautiful cat?” Well, Jimi’s doing fine and enjoys his walks in the garden. Last year he always seemed to be anxious outside. But recently, it seems he got used to the environment. And I love the moments in the morning, when he jumps up the table and asks to play with him.

Enjoy this beautiful day, my friends, wherever you are. Peace, love and understanding.

    • Thank you so much for your kind comment! I’m having more good days and looking forward to warm spring and summer days. I’m going to try to post more frequently…

  1. That’s good you are getting to the end of the paperwork. I like David Byrne, and “True Stories” was a masterpiece of film making and cultural commentary, but I’ll pass on Utopia. I don’t have time to watch movies anymore. Jimi’s looking happy and healthy.

    • Hi Tim. I loved the “True Stories” movie and album too. David Byrne is one of my favourite musicians. I saw him life with Talking Heads during the “Stop Making Sense” period but I missed his 2 American Utopia shows in Belgium.
Jimi’s doing very good and he seems to enjoy my company more and more each day…

  2. it’s good to hear from you. And you’re getting through the mounds of details from the government. Jimi likes the garden now, that’s great! Maybe he will bring you a gift of a mouse. Enjoy each day and each moment, with spring coming especially.

    • Thank you so much for your kind comment, my dear friend! We already had some warm and sunny spring days and they make me look forward to the summer. And something’s going to change in the garden, I’ll post it next month. I also have to go buy some nip for Jimi. Mr. Bowie’s plants didn’t got through the winter of 2019. I still don’t know if Jimi likes catnip…
Wishing you wonderful days outside in your garden!

    • Hi Patricia. Thank you so much for your kind words and concern.
Glad we made it through the winter and we’re heading to better times…

      • Bonjour! Herman! I watched the film Sound of Metal and thought of you…have you seen it? We have been trying to see more current films. Have you seen Nomadland? Hello Jimi…you are both always in our thoughts 🙂

        • What a coincidence! I watched this movie a few days ago and liked it a lot. Did you know it was produced by Caviar, a Belgian movie company? They also shot some scenes in Antwerp.
I’m going to watch Nomadland asap, right now it isn’t available to stream in this part of the world and the cinemas are still closed. Looks very promising and I love to see Frances McDormand in movies.
          Jimi sends his regards!

          • We did see the notice the scenes in Antwerp ( part of why I thought of you, as well as music and such a poignant story) but, did not know about Caviar! We have also been watching more things filmed in your part of the world such as Professor T and Salamander, the series

            • Oh, I didn’t know those series where available in the US. It might sound weird but I haven’t seen them, I prefer American series and movies… 😉

  3. So glad see a post from you Herman…..I’ve been wondering how you and Jimi are doing – there is a mountain of paperwork to do as I recall from going through that with both my parents….and it’s the LAST thing you want to do when you’re grieving. ANYWAY, can’t wait to hear what’s up with your garden – adding a fountain maybe? We’re all glad Spring is making an appearance – with all that’s going on in the world, it’s nice to have THAT to look forward to! Stay healthy and happy my friend.

    Hugs, Pam and Teddy too

    • Hi Pam. Thank you so much for your kind words and concern, my dear friend!
We’re so happy that we’re heading to a better direction and warmer days. On the original plans of the garden was a fountain, but I skipped that idea due to practical reasons. I’ll keep you posted on what’s going to happen… 😉

Stay safe and healthy, my friends!

  4. Hello dear friend, sounds like your days are filling up with things that make you smile. That’s wonderful ! I had your dad’s birthday on my calendar last week and thought of you. Your garden is so beautiful, how fabulous to be out with Jimi to enjoy it. I’m still not walking without assistance but my own Jimmy has helped me out to our porch to sit in the sun at wine-o’clock 😀 Warm sunshine on your face makes the day so lovely! Fingers crossed the snow stays away 🐾🌞 xK

    • Hi Kelly. Thank you so much for your kind words and concern, my dear friend! My Dad’s birthday last week was very hard and painful with lots of tears. The ‘special days’ in the first year are always very hard.
Glad to see you got the company off another Jimi too. So sorry that you’re still struggling… Wishing you all the best!

Btw, do you know the Canadian percussionist Jacqueline Acevedo? She’s one of the musicians in the David Byrne movie.

      • Arms around you Herman, I knew last week would be painful. I sure wish there were words I could share that could mend your heart. Honestly, I still struggle with these days too and it’s been over 20 years since I said goodbye to my dad. We’ll miss them forever and ever.
My woe’s pale in comparison to these things and each day is a chance for things to improve. Thanks so much for your kind wish my friend.
Unfortunately I’m not familiar with Jacqueline Acevedo, but I’ll be sure to look here up ! Thanks for sharing her name 🙂 xK

        • Thank you so much for your concern and heartwarming words, Kelly! This really means a lot to me.
We’re having a warm sunny spring weekend right now so I’m going to try to enjoy a few hours outside with my furry friend. Wishing you a wonderful weekend and enjoy your espressos too…

    • Thank you so much for your kind comment and concern! We’re having more good and pleasant days recently. So happy we’re heading to a better direction…

  5. Glad you’ve nearly reached the end of that sad process. Thanks for the reminder to watch that film — it does sound wonderful. You’ve got lots of wonderful earworms swirling around in my head now!

    • Thank you so much for your kind comment and concern, my dear friend! I’m glad the paperwork is almost done…
I’m sure you’ll enjoy the David Byrne movie. I watched it 3 times this week and it puts a smile on my face every time. And you may ask yourself, “Well, why do I like this movie so much?” 😉

  6. Estate matters, they can be long and winding. When it involves government, that can be kind of onerous (for the lack of a better word).

Nice that Jimi is enjoying garden life a little more.

    • Hi David. I’m getting so tired of all that paperwork… but it looks like it’s almost finished, but you’re never sure when the government is involved…

I’m happy to see Jimi’s enjoying he’s time outside in the garden. I’m looking forward of spending time together, with espressos, chocolate and cat treats!

        • So true, David. I got another letter today from my Dad’s bank. More paperwork the following days… Guess I’m going to need more chocolate… 😉

  7. The loss of a parent is very difficult and luckily I had my sister to handle the papers when Mom passed. Then I had to take care of sisters paperwork. It does seem endless but hope you are at the end now.
I love David Byrne and The Talking Heads so this is something we have to see. So glad seeing Jimi having such a good morning and that is a great photo

    • Thank you so much for your kind comment. It looks like it’s almost over… It’s so hard to stay concentrated while filling in all those forms…
I’m sure you’ll like the David Byrne movie. I watched it 3 times this week and enjoyed it every time a little bit more. Can’t stop singing his song now…

  8. It’s good to see the pictures of Jimi, especially out in the garden in the spring! I’m glad the paperwork is getting easier as time goes on. Sending meows and purrs from us.

    • Hi Leah. Thank you so much for your kind comment and concern!
Glad we’re heading to spring and summer. I never liked winters and this year was very hard for me and my family. But I’m looking forward to have breakfast and coffee outside!

  9. Good to hear you and Jimi are doing well, Herman. It does take a while to close the final chapter on someone’s life. May you and Jimi find warmth, light and joy this spring. ❤️ 🙂 🐱

    • Hi Lavinia. Thank you so much for your kind comment. I’m feeling better although there’re still some bad days, like last week when it was my Dad’s birthday. But I’m happy spring and summer is coming soon…

Stay healthy and safe, my dear friend! Jimi sends his regards!

  10. It’s so great to hear from you Herman and Jimi. Once you have accomplished all the paperwork, you will get to relax and enjoy the coming spring and the fact that the days are going to be longer, the brighter side of life is waiting for you and Jimi. I’m spotting a light source in the back, which looks more like a movie light. Stay safe and be well my friend

    • Hi Cornelia. Thank you so much for your kind comment, my dear friend. I’m happy to see spring and summer coming our way. Last week was very hard because it was my Dad’s birthday. The ‘special days’ are very difficult, the first years…
The movie light is only for decorative reasons, I got no ‘directing a movie’ plans, I’m sticking with writhing songs… 😉

Stay safe and healthy, my friend!

        • We will follow your advice, especially the one about ice cream… Found a local shop selling artisanal ice cream. Yummy!
Wishing you a wonderful weekend, my friend!

    • Hi Polly. Thank you so much for your kind comment and concern! I’m happy to see more good days recently and I’m looking forward to spring and summer.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend! Jimi sends his regards!

      Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

  11. I love David Byrne, so I’ll have to check on the film’s availability – if it’s on one of the streaming services I utilize. I also love how handsome Jimi has become. Beautiful boy! I’m glad he’s enjoying the outside and you are enjoying his company, Herman. Sending good health wishes and purrs from across the big pond.

    • Hi Mary. I watched the movie on a local streaming service and bought it the same day on Blu-ray. I watched it 4 times already and every time it puts a smile on my face. David Byrne/Talking Heads was always one of my favourite musician.
Jimi lives here 18 months and you can see he’s still changing and becoming an adorable sweet cat. I’m so happy with his company.
Hope you’re having a wonderful Sunday, my friend!

    • Thank you so much for your kind comment and concern, my friend! We’re so glad to see we’re heading in the direction of spring and summer. There are a lot of good days ahead…

  12. All the Government red tape to attend to. But unfortunately it has to be done. On a happier note, it sounds like Jimi has settled into a routine, which cats enjoy. He certainly is looking very well! Hope you are having a good day.

    • Hi Jill. Thank you so much for your kind comment! I’m so happy to see Jimi’s enjoying his time outside in the garden. Last year he didn’t felt safe outside but now he loves it. I’m looking forward to spend some quality time with him this summer in the garden.

  13. I was just thinking about your blog as I sipped coffee earlier this morning, wondering if you’d not posted lately or if I somehow overlooked it (chemo brain). So glad to hear from you and Jimi! Glad you are gradually finding some peace and joy after your father’s passing.

    • Hi Pamela. Thank you so much for your kind comment and concern! This really means a lot to me. I’m still having bad days but I know things will get better and I try to look ahead for warm summer days.
I realise you’re going through a very hard and difficult period. I’m sending you hugs and lots of strength. Wishing you all the best, Pamela!

    • Hi Julie. Thanks for stopping by! I’m sure you’re going to like this David Byrne movie. I have seen it a couple of times and it always puts a smile on my face.
