Jimi’s check-up visit. Medical care is as essential for your cat as it is for you. It’s a good idea to get a checkup for your cat once a year. Jimi was due for his first annual checkup today. All went well. Jimi is in top condition – though the vet told me I got to keep an eye on his weight.
For many cats, a veterinary visit is a stressful experience. Mr. Bowie was always relaxed and enjoyed the car rides. But Jimi was so stressed, the poor boy. He was so happy to be back home.

I was reading that David Bryne has issued an apology for his black and brown face parts in an interview with himself back in 1984 for Stop Making Sense. I saw the movie first run in 84. Former drummer, Chris Frantz, has just released a book that doesn’t put Byrne in a very nice light.
I didn’t know this. Always thought David Byrne was an ok guy and I always kept following what he was/is doing. Stop Making Sense is my favourite concert film, I love to re-watch it on Blu-ray.
I’m not surprised. I’ve known lots of successful people with super egos and they use and discard other people on their way to success. Lots of artists are like Byrne. Their egos are part of what drives their creativity to success.
Yes, and a lot of people find it fascinating and look up to these artists… I’m always trying to see it in perspective.
I saw Talking Heads live one time, in the ‘Stop Making Sense’ periode. It was a great show with a fantastic sounding band.
Ha. If only their vet visits were once in a lifetime! I’m taking Catorze on Monday, and he usually screams bloody murder all the way there and throughout (although never on the way back).
Hahaha… yes, it was the same story here. Jimi complaining in the car but silent when we drove back home. So funny actually…

Cats are so different in personality and reactions to the vet. Our Hershey screamed, tried to scratch and generally through a real hissy fit. I always left the vet feeling mortified. Callie on the other hand loves all the attention, not to mention the catnip and spray cheese they give as treats.
Mr. Bowie was always so calm and relaxed, even when the vet was doing his tests. And so funny, he really enjoyed the car rides. All cats are so different…

I agree, cats can vary in their response to ride to the vet’s office, although I can say none of ours enjoys it. Glad Jimi is back home and getting over the ride. 🙂

It was a big contrast compared with Mr. Bowie. Bowie never complained once in all the years. But I’m glad Jimi’s in a top condition.

Glad to hear Jimi got a good report! Teddy HATES being in the car and is very restless and cries the whole time – fortunately our vet is about 10 minutes away! He is PERFECT at the vet though – very still, relaxed, lets them do whatever they want to do to him……so it’s a small price to pay (hearing him cry in the car) for a cooperative boy at the vet! Celebrate with a treat for Jimi and a chocolate treat for Herman!

Hi Pam. Once we were inside the clinic, Jimi was very still and relaxed too. The vet could examine him without any problems, no hissing or biting. I just have to accept all cats are different…
Anyway, we will have a celebration soon on Jimi’s “Gotcha Day” in a few weeks!
Being in a multi-cat household I totally understand cats stressed by traveling. I do get little bottles of Feliway spray, a pheromone compound, and spray a towel that goes in the carrier. It helps several of them. Others it’s catnip. So glad Jimi is healthy!!

Poor Jimi; it’s good he’s home and had a good report. Just a few less treats……MaChatte wants no part of any of that nonsense. Doesn’t want in the carrier, doesn’t like the car rides, tries to hurt the vet with teeth, toenails, and awful hisses. But he’s a brave man and he persists, and we get it done. Luckily only once every 2 years for her. Good boy Jimi, now you can relax.
The carrier isn’t a problem but Jimi doesn’t seems to feel relaxed in a car (while driving). Inside the hospital Jimi was more relaxed and the vet could do his tests without a problem; no hisses, teeth or toenails… 😉
Jimi was still a little bit upset this evening and slept all the time. But he’ll be ok tomorrow after a few treats… 😉
It’s a rough day for them if they don’t like it and get stressed, etc. I hate to have to do it to her.😒. A good quiet time at home and some treats, yeaaa. 👍
Well, I needed some extra treats too afterwards. Dark chocolate made me feel more relaxed this evening… 😉

Glad Jimi checked out ok. Maybe he’ll be less stressed as he becomes accustomed to it. My cats (and dogs) never rode anywhere but to the vet, so they had nothing particular to look forward to. But, like many other commenters, they know when they are headed home and stop hollering. Purrs.
It always surprises me to see that cats realise when they’re going back home. I’m sure they are very intelligent creatures…

It never ceases to fascinate me how differently they react. We have one cat who yowls piteously from door to door but will behave at the et’s if they keep shoving treats nto her, while Torvald of blessed memory used to star with fascination at the wild geese that occupy a campus between my house and the clinic, clearly promising that if I let him out of the carrier he’d run out and get me one.
Cats never stopped surprising me in my whole life. Jimi is a totally different cat compared with Mr. Bowie. I always enjoyed the car rides with Mr. Bowie because you could see he enjoyed being inside a driving car. It was so funny…
I have never had a cat that didn’t stress after being shoved in a box and put in a car. Chris was okay with it when we adopted him but I think he was just happy to be going on an adventure away from the shelter.
Hi Charles. Jimi didn’t mind being inside the carrier. But he doesn’t seems to like the car ride. Once we were inside the hospital he was more relaxed again.
It’s a bit strange because when I picked him up in the shelter last year, he didn’t mind the long car ride. But like you said, it was probably an adventure for him getting out of the shelter…
I think he likes being home now.

Hmmm … first you forget his birthday, then you take him to the v-e-t. It may mean, “No treats for Herman.” At least, a week. “What do you think, Jimi?” 🙂

Hi Herman and Jimi, I am happy to hear that he got all the stars in his check up., besides to watch out his weight. Each vet visit Moshu is getting traumatized just to be put into the carrier , at times I have to force her, which I really dislike to do, as I have tried out so many tricks, it’s just as she can read my mind when it comes to pick her up and she runs away. But at the vet she is calm as a lamb and lets the vet do what ever he needs to do. I believe her panicking stems from having lost one leg when she was a baby cat, because apparently she lost one leg being caught in a laundry bag, she is a rescue cat when I got her she was about 2 1/2 years old, but still is very scared of certain movements and especially being picked up. But having only three legs isn’t a problem for her, she flies through the living room without limitations. Anyhow, what I am saying is that we never know what our furies had to go through, before we got them. Now you and Jimi can relax and enjoy all the treats to heal the trauma of the vet visit. Meow.
Hi Cornelia. We also don’t know anything about Jimi before he was dropped in the shelter. No date of birth or any visits to the vet… Jimi was still a little bit upset this morning but after some playtime with me he seems to be enjoying this rainy morning.
I’m always admiring people who pick up a ‘special’ cat in the shelter. My original plan was to choose an older ‘problem’ cat but my heart melted when I saw this little guy who immediately walked to my direction…

If you see the recent photographs of Jimi, you can’t say he’s a ‘fat’ cat… I believe vets are trained while going to college/university to say that line every time they examine a cat… 😉

Dang hey! The vet day is a bit of misery for all involved. Stressful kitty’s and kitty moms and dads. Glad Jimi is in tip top shape, it’s all that TLC 😀 My cats howl all the way, then hide under everything at the vets. It’s loads of fun (not). Petals once broke out of the top of the kennel and proceeded to climb all over me and near the gas pedal. I pictured a crash at any moment, so that was the last drive to the vet. We’ve got this mobile vet van that comes to the house. A bit pricey, but my sanity must be worth something, LOL.

I was used driving with Mr. Bowie in my car without any problems or stress. Bowie enjoyed the car rides and didn’t mind the vet performing tests on him. But Jimi, well, that’s completely a different story… 😉
