Watching the Detective

What’s up, Doc? Cats seems to sense when something is wrong. Jimi noticed strange sounding noises in the neighbourhood and went outside to check it out. It appeared to be my neighbours working in their vegetable garden so everything was safe. Thank goodness there were no idiots, even some morons carrying heavy armer, outside protesting against COVID-19 measures like in other parts of the world.

We’re almost 2 months in lockdown modus. Up to last week my family and friends were all safe and healthy. Unfortunately, recently some friends got sick due to the Corona virus. And an elderly couple in my circle of friends passed away both, in one week time. This is hard and confrontational.

That night, to my surprise, I heard a certain idiot in the U.S. of A. saying his country is doing great compared with some countries in Europe, especially Belgium. Well here are some other facts. Public healthcare in Belgium scores well thanks to its combination of health insurance and social security contributions. Belgium didn’t need to deploy a 1,000-bed hospital ship or set up field hospitals in parks or convention centers. Even during the highest peak almost 50% of the hospital beds with respiratory equipment in the COVID-19 IC units were still available. Why is Belgiums death toll so high? According to Belgian authorities, that’s because the country has chosen a reporting system that differs from pretty much every other country’s method of counting.

Okay, sorry for talking politics. Next post will be about cats and a dead fish. And now if you’ll excuse me, I need an espresso and chocolate. Stay safe and healthy!

Enjoy this beautiful day, my friends, wherever you are. Peace, love and understanding.

  1. Great photos! And 1,000 apologies for the certain US idiot and his horrible remarks. If he gets re-elected I may move to Belgium. That is, if he doesn’t kill us with his policies before then.

  2. Well said Herman – know what? A whole lot of us agree with you 100%. We must pray for our own health as our leader’s dream world has no room for consideration of that. I rarely talk politics either but we are speaking life/death situation. So sorry you lost friends to the virus Herman – you and your sweet Jimi stay safe and happy. Keep plenty of chocolate on hand!

    Hugs, Pam and Teddy

    • Thank goodness there’s always coffee and chocolate around to help me cool down and find some peace of mind…
Thank you so much for your kind comment, Pam!
Stay safe and healthy, my dear friend!

  3. I’m so glad Jimi is on guard for you! I’m shocked at some idiocy around me here and the outright lies to defend actions that have no positive action to fight this. Stay safe and well!

    • Hi Bernadette. These are really very strange times all over the world. I wonder why a lot of people still don’t see the big picture…
Stay safe and healthy, my dear friend!

  4. Jimi is rockin’ It’s difficult to get facts and good stats on Covid-19. Out here they are counting any deaths where a people had one or more symptoms as Covid-19 related deaths even though the people were not tested for Covid-19. The simple fact is all governments are flailing around generally clueless, but acting like they know what’s going on. It’s sad that politicians are so entrenched in their political ways that they can’t step outside of politics and work together on real solutions instead of trying to position this tragedy to gain political advantage and grab as much power as possible. Our Governer is one who is acting politically instead of sensibly with her lockdown policies. She’s not the brightest, but that seems to be the case for most elected officials.

    • Now that you got me going here. I can’t speak for ships and field hospitals in other parts of the country, but out here, many of our hospitals are mostly empty because they have canceled non-Covid-19 procedures. The DOH set up a bunch of testing centers with traffic control as they were expecting to be deluged with people needing to be tested for Covid-19. The cones sit along the edge of the roads not deployed and the three testing centers I drive by are empty. I never saw a person it one testing center I’ve driven by for the past three weeks. Yet they keep reporting cases and reporting most deaths in these parts as Covid-19 related. It makes it really hard to figure out what the truth is.

      • Very interesting to read about your situation in NM. You can see how different people and governments act to this Covid-19 problem. Thanks for sharing your story.

    • Hi Tim. I need to catch up on all the ‘lost’ comments of the last days. Sorry for the late respons. WP seems to have fixed the problems.
Thank you for your interesting view on todays world.

    • Hi Gina. Thank you so much for your kind comment. Glad you liked the photographs!
Stay safe and healthy, my friend!

Thank you for your kind words and glad you liked the photographs!
Stay safe and healthy, my friend!

  5. chapeau…well written comic poem about a run-down demagog in the US of A., going to rack & ruin! Stay Safe my friend and all these unknown readers too (!) 🍀✌🌈

    • I need to catch up on all the ‘lost’ comments of the last days. Sorry for the late respons.
Glad you liked the post! I had to calm myself down while writhing this post (with chocolate, of course)…
Stay safe and healthy, my friend!

  6. I am so sorry about your friends. That is really sad news. Hope you and the boys are all ok. Are you in Belgium or the Netherlands? Somehow I thought the Netherlands but maybe I’ve got it wrong?

    • I need to catch up on all the ‘lost’ comments of the last days. Sorry for the late respons.
Thank you so much for your kind comment. I’m living in Belgium, close to Antwerp but in the countryside.

    • Well, you probably realise what a little country we are and there are 6 (!) governments in la Belgique… Imagine how difficult this situation is to get things working in a good way…
Stay safe and healthy, my dear friend!

  7. Believe me when I say how many people in the US are simply terrified because we have no leadership. The protesters are fewer than the news shows make it appear, but even the few we have are too many. We don’t have a plan here and we can’t change anything until January 2021. That will be too late for so many. Once we survive this we have to look at the possibility of a referendum to remove an incompetent government as happens in other nations. Following the rules in place now is killing people.

    • I’m sure we all get very distorted pictures of the situation in other parts of the world. But I was really shocked seeing those idiots with heavy armer standing in that protesting crowed. This is completely not possible in Europe. Weird times…
Stay safe and healthy, my friend!

    • Hi Lavinia. I need to catch up on all the ‘lost’ comments of the last days. Sorry for the late respons. This morning all the lost posts are published on the blog. Seems WP fixed the problem.

Thank you so much for your kind comment and concern, my dear friend!
Wishing you and all the cats on the Farm a wonderful weekend! Jimi sends his regards!

  8. We’re so sorry for the loss of your friends dear Herman. It seems to me as if the Belgian government has been very transparent about the figures and I wish more countries would follow their example. Jimi is looking very much at home patrolling the garden! Stay safe and well dear friends 🙏

    • I need to catch up on all the ‘lost’ comments of the last days. Sorry for the late respons.
Thank you so much for your kind comment. Jimi is having the time of his life now he can wander around outside in the garden. He loves to watch all the birds…

Stay safe and healthy, my friend! Jimi sends his regards!

  9. Sorry to hear that you have lost friends, Herman. But I am glad that the health service in Belgium is coping well and I hope all goes well for you and Jimi. 💖

  10. The protesters here are fewer than the news shows make them look, but there are still too many. They are not practicing safe methods of gathering. They bring many causes to their protests, some of which have nothing to do with the virus: gun rights, abortion rights, evangelicalism. They bring confederate flags and lots of guns. Our country is in peril from things in addition to the virus and our lousy response to it. The man they elected instead of a president doesn’t have a clue, and only spouts out what he believes and expects everyone to feed his narcissism. There’s politics for you! We don’t know from one day to the next what is true and what isn’t. When I was a girl, I read the book 1984, and it scared the bejeebers out of me but it still felt like that could never happen….here. Then 1984 came and passed, and it was all ok. Now it’s 1984, in 2020. I’m so sorry you lost some people to the virus. Stay home and stay safe and take care of you and yours. And maybe chocolate can help fight off the virus? Being funny now cos we have to laugh a little cos it keeps us from going insane. BTW, Jimi is just gorgeous!

    • I’m sure we all get very distorted pictures of the situation in the US of A and other parts of the world. I watched the new miniserie ‘The Plot Against America’ (from the Philip Roth novel) on tv last week. It’s an alternate American history of the political rise of Charles Lindbergh, an aviator-hero and xenophobic populist, who becomes president and turns the nation toward fascism. Well, it looked a lot like what’s happening today in the US.

Thank goodness you are so right about the chocolate thing… chocolate (and cats) rules the wold!
Stay safe and healthy, my dear friend! Jimi (still on patrol) sends his regards!

      • I believe in chocolate……there’s my story and I’m sticking with it! I know you agree. We get all sorts of distortion too. Maybe you’re too young to remember the tv show called Twilight Zone, or maybe it didn’t show there. Lots of us are sure that’s where we are right now, or in some bad dream we can’t wake up from. Jimi on patrol, there’s a big layer of safety for you! Be well, stay safe. ❤️

        • I need to catch up on all the ‘lost’ comments of the last days. Sorry for the late respons. All the lost comments seems to be published this morning.
Oh yes, I remember The Twilight Zone, I’m not that young anymore… 😉
Some stories were really scary while others were very funny. I remember the remake of the serie wasn’t very good. The original series were top notch!
Wishing you a great weekend, my dear friend!

  11. Chocolate…that’s what I need… thanks for the reminder. Our government is filled with idiots, especially in those states they want to reopen. And reporting and testing suck, suck, suck! We are staying at home, as we have been told. Loved the photos of Jimi. Those of us who have pets are so fortunate, as they offer us so much love and entertainment in this trying time. So sorry to hear of your friends having and dying from the virus. Stay safe and healthy. Janet & Kitties Blue

    • Thank you so much for your kind comment! Glad you liked the photographs. Jimi sends his regards!
Stay safe and healthy, my friend! Don’t forget to have some chocolate on a daily base!

  12. I am sorry you lost friends Herman.I went today to check on an elderly neighbor we hadn’t seen in a few days, thankfully he is fine. Thank you for sharing how things are handled in Belgium, I am totally disappointed if not surprised abut many of my country’s citizen’s. The pictures of Jimi are wonderful. It looks like he’s enjoying pretending he’s a black panther in the jungle.Stay safe and don’t let the supply of chocolate and coffee run out. While everyone here was scrambling for toilet paper I was at the coffee kiosk stocking up ad I am so glad!

    • Hi Angela. Thank you so much for your kind comment and story. Glad you liked the post and the photographs of Jimi.
The first time I went to the supermarket I went straight to the coffee and chocolate zone, that was the most important thing for me too… Getting toilet paper was the last thing on my mind! 😉
Stay safe and healthy, my friend!

  13. Hello my sensible and loved friends. So sad to hear your friends have passed. Within a week of each other too! So sorry for your loss Herman.
Of course, in Canada, we hear only half the rhetoric that lunatic down south spews and that’s too much for me. He’s rude, arrogant, stupid, narcissistic and orange. What’s to like? That being said, I hope our border remains closed until there’s a vaccine and anyone arriving here should have to prove they’ve had it.
Well now, that was a load off my mind, LOL. Anywho, too bad there are knuckleheads everywhere who think only of themselves. I haven’t seen any protests here yet, but the federal and provincial gov’t have chipped in financially to help everyone stay home for a few months and banks are forgiving mortgages for 3 months. Let’s hope the calm lasts. Happy days to you and Jimi while you keep each other cozy and safe!! xK

    • Hi Kelly. Thank you so much for your kind comment, my dear friend! Reading your comments always makes me feel good.
Hope you’re having a great day! Jimi sends his regards!

  14. Hi Herman and Jimi, loved your pictures, seems like Jimi is taking on his role as a guardian very well.
I am sure that your country has made the right decisions, even it’s a small country but it takes a great spirit to support and be kind to all the people living in Belgium. The man, who thinks is a president in the country I live in, is just absolutely misplaced in his position and I am saying this right now very mildley ,because I decided not to have my tongue using nasty words. I can not express the words I have about those protestors , it is absolutely mindless without any compassion towards so many people who have lost their lives. Enough of that of politics, Herman tomorrow will be my big day to go out grocery shopping after two weeks, and guess what is on top of my list….. chocolate…. Yay . Stay safe and healthy my friend. Actually I had in mind to start my writing to you, with how sorry I feel for the people in your life who have lost their life through this pandemic, may their soul be in peace by now.

    • Hi Cornelia! Just got home from the supermarket myself. Thank goodness there was a lot of chocolate available… 😉
Thank you so much for your kind comment. Jimi is having the time of his life in the garden. He loves to watch the black birds and sparrows.
Stay safe and healthy, my dear friend!

      • Hi Herman, today I did quite some elaborate grocery shopping myself, since over two weeks. You don’t have to guess what was on top of my list….. so I am covered for a while with….. dark chocolate with whole hazelnuts, my absolute favorite….You both and your father have a great weekend.

    • I need to catch up on all the ‘lost’ comments of the last days. Sorry for the late respons.
Hi Cornelia. WP seems to have fixed the problem tonight. Your comments were published. Thank you for sharing your view on the weird situation in your part of the world. I was very interesting to read.
Thank you for the kind words of comfort, my dear friend!

      Wishing you a great weekend!

        • Hi there, Cornelia. I’m on FB but keeping a very very low profile over there, not posting any personal stuff. I’m using it occasionally for contacting far away family members and following music announcements.

  15. Sorry for your losses. I’m also embarrassed by some people from the US. They do not represent the majority even though our democracy originally intended for that. Things went askew along the way. We hope to boot him out in November. If us felines had the right to vote, he wouldn’t have been elected!!

    • Thank you so much for your kind words, my friend!
I still don’t understand that this idiot is still in charge. We can only hope they kick his ass in November…
Hope you’re having a great day. Stay safe and healthy!

  16. You are probably aware that the same idiot encouraged his followers in my state (Michigan) to continue trying to “liberate” the state from the tyranny of our governor trying to keep us alive. My condolences on your friends

    • Thank you so much for your kind comment. Your comment didn’t show up on the blog. WP told me the problem was fixed but it doesn’t look that way.
Stay safe and healthy, my friend!

  17. There is no excuse for that idiot’s incompetence and the cultish followers he attracts. One just hopes to last until the election and the long months till January 2021 when the new (I hope) president is sworn in. Yes, it is silly to say the US has approached this virus’ path through the population well.

    • Thank you so much for your kind words, Julie.
After keeping Jimi inside for 6 months, he finally can go out and check out the garden. He seems to be having the time of his life…
Stay safe and healthy, my friend!

  18. Great action shots of Detective Jimi. 😀
Don’t worry about the rest of the world – you can only do what they do in your own country – and you’re doing fine. 🙂

    • Thank you so much for your kind comment, my friend. And as you already know, chocolate is also very handy to keep things under control… 😉
Jimi is having a great time outside in the garden. Let’s hope he doesn’t try to break out!
      Stay safe and healthy!

  19. Hello Jimi
There you are outside. What you need to feel good then you are safe
How’s Sherlock Holmes’ job, not too hard to have to watch everything, all the time (or almost)?
ps: can you tell your human that the group in which my brother played as a guitarist and who had great success in Belgium at the end of the 80s and early 90s was called “l’étranger”

    • Jimi’s having the time of his life outside in the garden. He loves to wander around and watch all the birds in the trees.

Just checked the band called L’Étranger, was it the Canadian punk rock band?

      • l’étranger it was the name of my brother’s band, but it dates from the early 1990s (my brother died in 1992)
It was a Belgian group which was very successful and it seems to me to have obtained a 2nd place during a contest in golf drouot
        It was a rock band

        • So sorry to hear your brother passed away. I hope you cherish his warm memories deep in your heart.

  20. The news is not always reported accurately. Quebec’s problem is that too many of its doctors are at home. Moreover, we were not prepared. It has been very sad.

    • Hi Micheline. I think the Covid-19 situation took the whole world by surprise. Nobody expected this would turn into a worldwide outbreak. Let’s hope we’ll react much sooner the next time.
Stay safe and healthy, my friend!

        • Thank you very much, Micheline. It’s a very strange situation for us all. But it makes me think about the stories my parents used to tell us sometimes. They had to flee with their parents to France when WW II started and face 4 years of deprivation and poverty.

  21. What a shock. I am very sorry about your friends’ passing Herman.
Regarding the politics – thanks for the information in a nutshell, interesting and easily digestible. As for the dangerous caricature leading the US, I can only agree with you. I read his embarrassingly underdeveloped tweets nearly daily and just don’t get how such a person can be president of a developed country. (Not that I think the Israeli head of state is that much better…)

    • Hi Heila. A lot of people don’t understand how it’s possible that he’s still in charge after all what he has done over the last 4 years. If a local politician over here would act that way we would kick his/her ass in jail.

    • No problem, Heila. There were some issues with comments not showing up a few weeks ago. Maybe that’s why they appeared twice… 😉
WP fixed the problem of the vanishing comments.
