Delta Echo Foxtrot

What’s in the box? Yes! After searching for years to buy a vintage Roland RE-201 Space Echo I finally found one in absolute perfect, near mint condition. The RE-201 Space Echo is an iconic audio effects unit that produces delay and reverb effects and inspired a generation of musicians. It was produced by the Roland Corporation from 1974 to 1990. I used to own one decades ago but sold the unit to buy a digital delay and reverb. Nowadays, a lot of musicians miss the real analog, moody, warm, gritty and unique sound of the Space Echo and they call it “the holy grail piece of equipment”.

I’m so happy that I found this iconic Roland Space Echo at a company in Antwerp, specialised in pro audio equipment and instruments. Anyone with even a passing interest in music production must surely have heard of the Space Echo at some point. Even Jimi was very interested. So I’m a happy musician and Jimi is a happy cat.

Enjoy this beautiful day, my friends, wherever you are. Peace, love and understanding.

    • Thank you, Tim. I was a real fool to sell my original unit years ago. But I’m so glad to get one again again again again…

  1. Nice reverb on the “again”! Congratulations on getting your Space Echo back even though it’s not your original which you sold years ago. Jimi looks like he’s wishing the box was available for occupation………Enjoy – and “safe” hugs to you both.

    Pam (and Teddy too)

  2. I didn’t understand any of that, not being a music person, except that you’re happy with your new equipment and Jimi got a new box. All is well, good! Enjoy that.

    • I’m still waiting for Jimi to sing in a few songs but right now he’s only interested in that new box…

  3. I think you’re going to enjoy your Space Echo and Jimi is going to enjoy the big box. Most of us know Roland for their keyboards, which is one fine instrument. 🙂

    • Hi David. Much to my surprise, Jimi isn’t really interested in the box so far. I have noticed in the past he’s not really a ‘box cat’. Mr. Bowie loved all the boxes I gave him, no matter what size.
I used many Roland keyboards in my life. I still have some equipment hanging around. Always loved the quality of all their products.

    • Hi Kristiina. Glad you liked the post! Getting this echo device while we’re going through these difficult times made me feel happier. Jimi preferred to go outside after he gave that box a quick look. You are right, he’s a little bit bigger now.
Stay safe and healthy, my friend! Jimi sends his regards to Kosmo!

  4. Herman, glad to hear you were able to find one of these units. Jimi looks pleased, too, and I am sure Mr. Bowie is giving a nod from afar. 🙂

It is almost 70 here today, with a light breeze and sunny.

    • Hi Lavinia. I was very lucky (and happy) to get such an old device in a very good condition. I was a bit surprised Jim preferred to go outside instead of playing in his new big box. It seems he’s not really a ‘box cat’ like Mr. Bowie.
The temperature dropped 10 degrees, although we’re still having sunny days, it feels very cold outside. But Jimi doesn’t mind… 😉

Stay safe and healthy, my dear friend!

    • Hi Christine. Yes, Jimi was very interested but he prefers to go outside instead of working in the studio…
Stay safe and healthy, my dear friend!

  5. I come in peace 😁
Calling occupants of interplanetary, most extraordinary *cat 😉So I went over to YouTube to give your Space Echo RE-201 a look-see. Spot on, it does sound like the 70’s . Congratulations Herman, it’s so fun to find a treasure you’ve coveted for so long. Congrats to Jimi too, that’s a nice new box 💕hugs K

    • Hi Kelly. That’s nice of you to look up this iconic device on YouTube. I’m still mad at myself for selling this machine many years ago. But I’m very happy that I could buy one in mint condition. I’m having flash backs right now… 😉
Jimi preferred to check out the garden while we’re having warm sunny days. The box is for rainy days I guess…
Stay safe and healthy, my dear friend in Canada!

    • Hahaha… You are so right, it should be possible to krank up every device you use to 11 when you’re making music.
      Keep on rocking’, Mary!

    • Hi Hedy. I’m working in the studio right now. The music level is very low because Jimi’s sleeping beside me… 😉
Hope you’re having a wonderful day!

  6. Super cool! I love your description of the musical sound before digital…I still love analog. Partly the sound and because it’s nostalgic. I’m happy for you! And Jimi is thrilled!

    • Glad you liked this post! I also love the warm analog sound of the music productions from late 60’s and the 1970 decade. For some strange reason it just sounds better…

  7. If you knew how many guitars my brother had, stuffs, pedals, etc …
I think I still have stage equipment and Roland brand (among others) of equipment from the 80s and 90s.
If you are interested you can contact me
But for Jimi, of course, it’s the most interesting box
A carese for him and a hug

  8. Have you posted about the Roland RE-201 Space Echo before? I don’t know anything about sound equipment, but this sounds very familiar . . . . especially the part about it being the Holy Grail. Congrats on your find!

    • Thank you! I don’t think I mentioned it in older posts. But I was very happy to find one in an excellent condition. I used to own one decades ago but I sold it to buy other equipment. The Space Echo is a very popular device and a lot of musicians want to have one…
