12/21

SAD, again. December 21 is the shortest day of the year in this part of the world. This day will boost my mental energy because the days themselves will only keep getting longer. This thought helps me to fight my SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder). I need to go outside and enjoy my walks in the sun. And have espressos. And chocolate.

Get up, Sir Jimi! Donโ€™t feel sad, spring is just around the corner, well kindaโ€ฆ ย

Enjoy this beautiful day, my friends, wherever you are. Peace, love and understanding.

  1. This is a tough time of year. Have you ever tried a SAD light? My husband uses one. b The light is supposed to mimic the effect of the sun, you just sit near it. XO

  2. Mom understands about SAD. Those endless grey days can really get her down, down, down. Wishing you a sunny day today and every day. Merry Christmas. Hope you and Jimi enjoy your first holiday together. What a super cute photo of him. 3. So true, this dark time is very difficult, only things that interest is coffee and chocolate. We have not seen the sun in weeks, no daylight. Now everything changes, the light start to increase!
Jimi looks very content to his life.

    • I’m sure it’s a lot more difficult for you out there, up in the high north with no sunlight at all… Thank goodness the days are getting longer from now on!
Wishing you a wonderful ending of the year! Jimi sends his regards! Happy Holidays, my friend!

  4. Jimi looks content on the floor. We have lots of sunshine, but it’s cold and dry. The temp was -10ยบ C this morning with 15% humidity. Enjoy your espresso and dark chocolate, my friend.

    • Thank you so much, Tim! The days are too warm for this time of the year, but I’m not complaining. Well ok, maybe a bit about the darkness… So happy the days are getting longer again.
      Wishing you a good weekend!

  5. The time will pass quickly, Herman. My daffodils are already up a few inches by the old garage which has southern exposure.

You and Jimi have a peaceful winter solstice day there. Have plenty of espresso and dark chocolate!

    • Hi Lavinia. Thank you so much for your kind comment. I’m so glad we’re heading in the right direction from today… Looking forward to letting Jimi out in the garden in spring.

Wishing you a great weekend, my dear friend!

    • Thank you so much, Stina! Looking forward to longer and warmer days!

    • Thank you so much, my friend! You are so right, I’m counting the days for spring and longer days.
Wishing you a great weekend! Happy Holidays! Jimi sends his regards!

  6. I’m sorry you deal with SAD Herman but I have heard that the SAD lights help a lot…..you might get yourself a Christmas present of one! Jimi looks sleek, healthy, happy……and I’m sure if we saw you having an expresso and some dark chocolate there would be a smile on your face too – in spite of the SAD. Something about chocolate makes everything BETTER! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hugs, Pam and Teddy

    • Hi Pam. I prefer chocolate, no SAD lights for me this Christmas… ๐Ÿ˜‰
I’m sure Jimi is very happy in his home. You can still see changes in his attitude and he’s becoming more relaxed. So glad I found this sweet boy.

Wishing you a wonderful ending of the year, my dear friend! Jimi sends his regards! Happy Holidays!

    • Hi Kelly! I’m always trying to live like a cat: naps on time, lots of treats (=chocolate) and walking in the nature (but not catching birds). And yes, I do look lean just like Jimi… ๐Ÿ˜‰
Hope you’re having a great weekend, my dear friend!

    • So true Sir Albertus! So glad to have Jimi by my side to get safe trough the winter…
Hope you’re having a great weekend! Happy Holidays!

  7. It’s predicted to get to 12ยบC today and a rather pleasant Christmas day of 5ยบC. I know the “white Christmas” folks will be disappointed, but I can survive without it! Best wishes for the New Year, and a Blessed Christmas, Herman!

  8. Do have lovely days, there are always lovely days with Cats.
Yesterday, I could enjoy wonderful cats, the Two Miss – ine – and the ovelay black lady-cat at friends ‘
Hapy Christmas, all of you ๐Ÿ™‚

    • I’m always enjoying the company of a cat(s). They help me to get trough the days when I’m having a hard time…
Wishing you a wonderful ending of the year! Happy Holidays!

    • The best thing you can do is go outside for at least 20 minutes. And if there’s sunshine it’s even much better. I try to go for a walk each day, if possible.
Wishing you a wonderful ending of the year! Happy Holidays!

  9. Each day a little longer now! Those nice walks you take are beneficial to you in many ways. So is coming home to a wonderful cat, and goodies of the chocolate and coffee variety. Spring….at least now we have definite proof that itโ€™s on itโ€™s way. Have wonderful holidays!

    • Thank you so much for your kind words, my dear friend! I’m already looking forward to spring… Maybe you’re also ready to make some plans for your garden?
Wishing you a wonderful ending of the year! Jimi sends his regards! Happy Holidays!

PS: thank goodness for a warm and green Christmas this year… ๐Ÿ˜‰

      • Oh yes Herman the garden plans are already made. We have a green, warm Christmas coming too. Many people want snow, but I am not one of them. Christmas treats all around! Be well, and scratch Jimi in his favorite spot for me. ๐Ÿ˜Š

      • Yes, it seems like most people need sunshine. I go the route of creating my own . . . unfortunately not enough for those that require it, but I am ok without it.

Thank you, your wishing worked . . . had a wonderful ending of the year.

Happy New Year to you and Jimi!

  10. Lovely shot, Herman. And all the best for 2020. Definitely more chocolate is always required. And soon there will be more light. And spring. Saw the first bright green hazel catkins in the garden hedge today.

    • Hi Tish. Thank you for your kind comment. And I fully agree with the chocolate part… Looking forward to spring and I’m so glad to see the days are already getting longer.
      Wishing you a wonderful 2020!

  11. “I need to go outside and enjoy my walks in the sun. And have espressos. And chocolate.” Yes! Yes! Yes! Such great advice. I hope in the New Year it has already helped lift your spirits. Just yesterday I noticed how the sun is staying more hours before it sets. Hooray!

    • Glad you liked this post, thank you for your comment!
So happy the days are getting longer again, I just hate the dark and short winter days.
      Wishing you a wonderful 2020!

  12. I understand SAD. 2019 was a rough year and I have been thinking of you and Jimi and Mr. Bowie over these last few weeks. I hope thinks will pick up for us all as the days grow longer.

    • Hi Angela. 2019 was no fun for me. I hope 2020 will be a lot better… And the last week of December I had to go to 2 funerals. That’s why I didn’t wrote a new post for the blog.
But yes, I’m so glad the days are getting longer again. I need more light and sunshine, and of course, dark chocolate too… ๐Ÿ˜‰

      Wishing you a wonderful 2020!
