Poor Poor Pitiful Jimi

Oh no…!! I had to take Jimi to the veterinarian hospital, this afternoon. Last Saturday, I noticed he was suffering a bit from a swelling under a healed wound on his right paw. Today he stopped playing and wanted to be left alone. Just to be sure, I called for an appointment at the hospital.

Jimi doesn’t like the car rides as Mr. Bowie did. Bowie always enjoyed the car rides, even if it meant an irritating medical check up. Jimi’s medical check up all went well. It seems he was suffering from an infected wound. Jimi was treated with appropriate medication after they cleaned and disinfected the wound and the abscess. All should be well and healed very soon.

Afterwards, back home, Jimi needed to take some time to relax and recover from this first stressful event with his new human. I needed time to relax too. No espresso please, I’ll go for some dark chocolate…

Enjoy this beautiful day, my friends, wherever you are. Peace, love and understanding.

  1. Oh poor Jimi! But really good that you acted so quickly – so Jimi can recover well now.
Enjoy your well-earned chocolate and maybe some catnip for Jimi! 😀

  2. Poor Jimi. Glad you acted quickly and the vet trip went well. Jimi should recover quickly, though. My Shadow had a couple of abcess wounds before. One of them was on top of his head from being pecked by a bird. They look worse than they are, as long as they are treated promptly and well. I’m with you though on the dark chocolate; I much prefer it to espresso as a pick-me-up.

    • Thank you so much for your kind comment, my friend. This was for me the first time… Glad all went well at the hospital.

  3. My old Maine had that kind of infection on his paw once. After treating him they told me to soak it in Epsom Salt… seriously… and he let me! Get well fast, Jimi.

  4. Jimi, most of us hate car rides as well. We are sending lots of purrs and POTP for quick healing. XOCK, angel Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo, Cooper Murphy and Sawyer

    • Thank you so much for your concern and support, my friend! It’s the first time I have a cat with an abscess, this was new to me… So glad all went well in the hospital and Jimi will feel better in a few days…

  5. Ouch! I know that is tender and uncomfortable for Jimi and I’m sure what the vet did to “fix” it will work and he’ll be back to his explorations in his new home SOON. Meanwhile, chocolate does wonders for our frazzled nerves doesn’t it Herman?! I know it works for me too………….hugs to you and Jimi.

    Pam (and Teddy too)

    • Hi Pam! Jimi is still a little bit mad at me this evening. I wish I could explain him why I needed to hold him so tight in the hospital while the vet was cleaning his wound… Well, I’m sure we’ll be best friends again tomorrow…
Thank you so much for your kind comment and support, my dear friend!

  6. Those infections can flare up quickly, and it is good you caught this one and got him in to the vet. Jimi looks comfortable now.

Both of you have a peaceful and relaxing day, Herman. Treat yourself to some dark chocolate, and enjoy the day with Jimi. Mr. Nano and all the cats here send their regards to their newest Belgian brother. 🙂

    • Hi Lavinia! Thank you so much for your kind comment and concern, my dear friend! Jimi is still a bit mad at me and doesn’t want to be in my neighbourhood this evening. I had to hold him very tight when the vet was pushing the discharge out of the abscess. After a while he started to hiss and wanted to bite the vet too… But I’m sure Jimi will enjoy my company again tomorrow…

Well, Jimi likes to use Mr. Bowie’s words too and says “Meow!” and sends his regards to his new cat friends at the Farm!

  7. Poor guy. I’ve never had a cat who enjoyed car rides, so I can sympathize with Jimi’s anxiety and your temporary hearing loss from the cat cries. I’m just glad that his wound is on the mend and you have your stash of dark chocolate.

    • Dank je wel, Joke. Jimi is nu wel boos op mij omdat ik hem heel vast moest klemmen toen ze de etter uit de abces haalden… Hij wil al heel de avond niet in mijn omgeving komen… 😦

      • That’s always a big plus when the kitty handles being at the veterinarian’s well. Nice to know Jimi is a good patient, Herman! I’m glad it turned out to be something easily “fixed, though. My two handle it differently, but both tolerate it well. Andy is best, I think, because he stays put on the exam table, whereas Dougy is an explorer cat. Even as a wee kitten, he hoped off the exam table to explore the room while waiting for the veterinarian!

        • You are so right, Doug. People with cats who react calm at the vet are very lucky… Mr. Bowie was doing great each time in the hospital. A lot of vets told me they had never met such an easy going cat…
Jimi feels a lot better this morning and he started to play again. You can see he still a little bit upset but I’m sure he’ll ok in a few days. He still needs some medication the following days.

  8. So glad it seems Jimi was otherwise well and that he got medical attention right away. You are like I am, the slightest indication of a problem, off to the vet.I am sure Jimi’s immune system has been down for a while since he was so unhappy at the rescue. In your nice house with the attention he is obviously getting, I am sure that will get better. Enjoy your chocolate.

    • Hi Angela! Thank you so much for your kind comment and support. Jimi is still upset this evening and doesn’t like to be near me. Guess he’s still a bit mad because I had to hold him very tight while the vet was cleaning the wound…
I always like to go very quickly to the vet, just to be sure. Mr. Bowie had too many eye and ear infections and I hate to see an animal in pain.
Hope you’re having a great day, my friend!

      • You are still new to him and this was unfortunate but as he feels better he will realize you helped him. None of my cats ever like being transported or vet treatment but patience and treats always brought them around

        • Yes, you are so right. It must have been very difficult and strange for Jimi going through this experience today after being in his new home for almost 3 weeks. Afterwards, I bought special treats for my friend and he loved them…

  9. Sweet boy, glad the vet was able to help. Jimi looks comfy and content now. The whole vet thing was so traumatic for me and my kitties, I’ve now engaged a home visiting vet service. It’s a bit more $$, but saves us all. He’ll find his playful vibe real soon. ❤ xK

(PS. "lord have mercy on me" I can't even believe Linda Ronstadt is 73….where have the years gone!!?)

    • Hi Boomdee! Mr. Bowie always liked the car rides so it never came in my mind to call a vet for a home visit. I kept talking to Jimi all the time and explained all the traffic rules. But I’m not sure if he was really interested… 😉
So glad all went well in the hospital. However, Jimi is still a bit mad and doesn’t enjoy my company this evening… Well, I’m sure we will be best friends again tomorrow morning…

My favourite Linda Ronstadt song is actually a Paul Simon song from the “Graceland” album, “Under African Skies”. Graceland is one of my all time favourite albums.

    • Thank you so much, my friend! I’m so glad all went well in the hospital. Jimi should be ok and feel better in a few days…

    • Hi M.B. Thank you so much! Jimi feels a lot better this morning. It looks like he’ll be ok in a few days…
Hope you’re having a great day!

    • Hi Takami. Thank you so much, my friend! Jimi feels a lot better this morning and he started to play again. It looks like he’ll be ok in a few days…
Hope you’re having a great day!

    • Oh yes… we love that part about the treats…!!
Jimi feels a lot better this morning and he started to play again. You can see he’s still a little bit upset but I’m sure he’ll be ok in a few days…
Hope you’re having a great day, my dear friend!

      • Just took down the rest of the garden. I hate to have to do it, but it was time. I’m out of denial now; it’s fall. I’m glad Jimi is feeling lots better. You’re a very good cat daddy. 👍

        • Thank you! I know how you must feel… As you already know, I don’t like the direction we’re heading now. But I also realise spring is waiting for us both. We only have to be patient, and turn up the heat the next months… 😉

    • Thank you so much, Hedy! Jimi feels a lot better this morning. Let’s hope he’ll be ok in a few days…
Hope you’re having a great day!

  10. No wonder , Jimi was hissing, because it’s hell of a pain, squeezing out the oozes from his wound, after a day he will have forgotten about this trauma at the Vet and quickly he will gain back his trust to you. My Moshu has been sick for quite a while, she had been lethargic and her pee and bowl movements weren’t placed properly…. the result was crystals in her bladder, but the bigger issue is thyroid problems, I was afraid to loose her, but after the right medication she finally is almost back to normal. In a week she has get back into that “bloody” crate for another blood and urine test, getting into that carte is each time like hell for her. Paw hugs from Moshu to Jimi

    • Hi Domi. Jimi feels a lot better this morning. I’ll take good care of my little boy…
Hope you’re having a great day, my friend!

  11. Aww poor sweetie! You’re awesome, taking such good care of Jimi and getting him checked out as soon as you noticed something wasn’t right! 👍😊😺😺😺 Sending healing purrs from Murli, Samantha and Sonic and lots of love from me! 🥰 Heal well sweet Jimi!

And yay for the chocolate! 💕

    • Hi Natascha! Welcome on HoB! Thank you so much for your kind comment and concern. Jimi feels a lot better this morning and he started to play again. I’m sure he’ll be fine in a few days…
Hope you’re having a great day! And yes: chocolate rules the world!

      • Hi! Thank you! So glad he feels a lot better! It’s such relieving sight when cats play again after being unwell or in pain. Always a great sign!
Wishing you a nice evening with your kitties! 🙋😽😽😽

    • Thank you so much! Jimi’s feeling much better today, sometimes he’s still little bit upset but he’ll be fine in a few days. He needs some medication the following days so the wound can heal properly. And I guess I need some extra chocolate too… 😉

  12. Jimi has no idea how many friends he has cheering him on to good health. These sweet, furry creatures capture our hearts with their unconditioned loved. Nibble away on your chocolate dear friend, for you also have many friends.

    • Hi Virginia. Thank you so much for your kind comment. Chocolate and all you friends make me feel good! And of course, the company of a furry friend too…
Hope you’re having a great day, my dear friend!

    • Thank you so much! Jimi’s feeling much better now. There were a few side effects from the medication; he had to vomit a few times last night. But the swelling of the abscess is gone and the wound is healing very good.

  13. Oh dear. I hope all is forgiven, Jimi, and that you are feeling better. Dylan and Bagheera are very annoyed with me (Bagheera especially) because I actually invite the Vet into our HOME for their annual check up. We also need lots of dark chocolate with a side of tuna…

    • Haha… wish I could join you for chocolate! I would share our fine Belgian chocolate! Hope the cats will forgive you this horrible crime…
Jimi’s doing fine now: the swelling is gone and the wound is healing good.
Hope you’re having a great day, Christine!

  14. I hope Jimi is much better, and he has let you be his friend again. None of the cats here like car rides either. Not so much the motion, but the strange sounds.

Our vet, she has her vet techs manage the critters in the exam rooms. It’s a safety measure so that there are no unintended scratches or bites.

    • One day later Jimi acted as if nothing happened the day before. He was waiting for me in the morning and followed me the whole day. It looks like we are best friends again…
Hope you’re having a great weekend, David!

    • Guess something happened in the shelter, maybe by playing are fighting with another cat? The wound got infected pure by accident…
