Welcome Home, Jimi!

New kid in town. Okay, I feel guilty towards Bowie and towards what I said in my previous post. I didn’t planned to adopt another cat so soon, especially a young one. But sometimes you just can’t control the way your life goes. Let me explain…

I contacted a few local cat shelters to ask them if I could donate Mr. Bowie’s special diet food, medicines, hygiene products and other stuff. When I was checking out their websites I noticed a message about a 1 year old grey male cat who was dropped off in the shelter. The owner of the cat moved to a foreign country and didn’t care about his cat. The little one needed quickly a forever home because he was too anxious at the shelter. I decided to visit the cat. Much to my surprise the little cat immediately walked towards me. The other cats in the room weren’t interested in me. The little grey one started to rub his head on me and I could pet him. Maybe it’s a bit weird, but I felt some kind of connection. My heart melted and I decided to fill in the adoption papers. After a few days they called me and said I could adopt the cat. I was in cat heaven.

Jimi in the shelter

So welcome home, Jimi! Glad you decided to pick me. Let’s hope we get along and will be best friends forever. Now let’s take it easy and get to know each other better. I’ll keep posting on the blog and talk about my new adventures. And I’ll keep on talking about Mr. Bowie. We will never forget him.

Enjoy this beautiful day, my friends, wherever you are. Peace, love and understanding.

  1. Cats have a way of choosing their owners, even by kitty telepathy as in the case of Jimi calling out to you. That is fantastic for both of you, and I’m sure Mr. Bowie played his kitty spirit paw in helping Jimi find you. Our kitty’s spirits look out for us, always. I look forward to your new adventures and learning all about Jimi.

  2. Aww, this feels as if it was meant to be Herman and we’re so happy you and Jimi decided to adopt each other 🙂🐈 Here’s wishing you both happy times ahead and we look forward to getting to know Jimi better too 🤗🐾💜🐾

    • Thank you so much, my friend! I was so happy to bring Jimi home today. I’ll keep you posted on how things will evolve… But I’m having a good feeling about it.

  3. Hello Jimi, it is nice to meet you 🙂
Hello again, Mr. Herman – I can imagine you have some mixed emotions especially since Bowie passed away. However, I also agree, this young cat needed you, and I’m happy you have this connection.
I believe Mr. Bowie will also “approve” of your decision 🙂 Wishing you and all your family continued health and happiness.

    • Hi Takami. It’s really kinda weird, the shelter where I found Jimi wasn’t on my list because it wasn’t close to my hometown. I still don’t know why I clicked on their link and saw the message about Jimi. But I’m very happy that I did… 🙂
Thank you so much for your kind comment, my friend!

    • It’s really very strange that I found Jimi. The shelter where he was placed wasn’t on my list. Pure by coincidence I found their website… Looks like ‘someone’ was pulling some strings ‘somewhere’…

  4. Herman I am so thrilled you have a new little forever friend. He’s beautiful too – I think he sensed you were “the one” at the shelter. They know things like that…..they pick US out, we don’t pick THEM out! Love the name Jimi – he will be a music lover. He will be respectful of the Bowie Vibes which will live on forever in your house but he will make his OWN mark as he wins your heart. He already has mine! I’m happy for both of you………………….

    Hugs, Pam and Teddy too

    • Hi Pam. Thank you so much for your kind comment. Actually, the story is really weird. The shelter where I found Jimi wasn’t on my list because it was further away. Pure by coincidence I hit their link and saw the message about Jimi. It looks like ‘someone’ wanted that I would click on the link… But I’m so happy I found that little boy…

  5. When my cat Dolly died I planned to wait before getting another cat. 1week later Teddy came to live with me. Just not a home without a cat..or 2. Sounds like Jimi and you found each other. Maybe Mr. Bowie had something to do with it. I look forward to hearing how you and Jimi get along.

    • Hi Patricia. I had no plans of getting another cat so soon. Pure by coincidence I found Jimi. It feels like ‘someone’ was pulling some strings…
I think this is the beginning of a great friendship with that little boy…
Thank you for your kind comment!

    • Thank you so much for your kind comment. You are so right! I’ll do my best to take good care of the little Jimi. So glad I found him.

  6. Congratulations! The decision was taken out of your hands. Mr Jimi will become one with your heart. We know there is lots of room for him, Mr. Bowie would definite approve.

    • Hi Virginia. Thank you so much for your warm comment and concern! I’m so happy to found Jimi and I’m sure we will get along fine.
Hope you’re having a great day!

  7. I truly believe that Mr Bowie guided Jimi as he made his way to you at the shelter. After Smathers, my Tuxie, died I was similarly selected by Bagheera who stated that Dylan would need company. Jimi is blessed. Thank you Mr. Bowie. Herman, we look forward to getting to know Jimi and remembering Mr B through tales of the blond pillow thief, garden antics and other stories. ❤😻

    • Hi Christine. Thank you so much for your kind comment. I’m so happy I found Jimi in this special way, like it was supposed to happen…
Wondering if the blond pillow thief will show up again in the following stories of Jimi…

  8. there’s an old saying; one cat never leaves without at some time sending another. Promise as sure as I’m writing this, Bowie sent you Jimi. There’s no need to feel guilty Herman, AT ALL……never forget; you didn’t “replace” Bowie, you never will, you just offered another cat a home, and a life time full of love ♥♥♥

Jimi !!! happee gotcha day dood….we hope ewe can understand R crazee speeh, sum timez we due knot under stand R selves ☺☺☺ we iz buzzed happee ta meet ewe N we look for werd ta seein
mor postz in de few chure…..welcome home N welcome ta blogland ♥♥♥☺☺☺☺♥♥♥♥

    • Thank you so much for your kind words and concern, my dear friends. This whole situation feels very strange, it feels like ‘someone’ was pulling some strings to make this all happen… But I’m very happy to find this little one. I’m sure we will get along fine…

    • Hi Greg. This whole thing feels like it was orchestrated by Jimi. So may details happened that never could have happened in a ‘normal’ world… Glad I found this little fellow!

  9. It does feel like Mr. Bowie must have helped bring Jimi to you! And Jimi knew to reach out to you! I think this is the best way to go forward while honoring the memory of Mr. Bowie. Wishing you much happiness with beautiful Jimi!

    • Thank you so much for your kind comment. So may little things happened that normally should never have happened. This whole story feels so weird… But I’m very happy I found Jimi in a shelter and he moved in to my house.

  10. I think Jimi was sent by Mr. Bowie, too! Congratulations on adopting a kitty someone else abandoned in a shelter, too. I think Jimi is one lucky kitty that you came along when you did, and I know you will give him a happy home for life. It looks like you were found by a lovely cat, Herman!

    • Hi Doug. I was feeling so down the last 2 weeks and it never came in my mind something so beautiful like this could happen to me. It really feels like ‘someone’ was taking care of me behind the screen.
Thank you so much for your kind comment and concern, my dear friend!

      • When I picked up Louie the ginger cat’s ashes one week after he died, that was the day I was introduced to the five-week-old Andy and was given a chance to have him once he was old enough to leave his momma. Like you, I wasn’t expecting to get another cat so soon, let alone a kitten. Like you, I felt I somehow dishonored Louie’s memory – he was a funny and fun kitty, and I still miss him. Like you, I realized there was something about little Andy walking toward me, choosing me to give him a forever home. I did have a few weeks to wait for him to come into my home, though, after the initial introduction. Several of us have commented on cats choosing them and how we believe Jimi knew he’d be a happy cat with you! I know he will be!

  11. There is no right or wrong time to get another pet. “The heart wants what it wants.” And as others have said, Mr. Bowie knew what you – and Jimi – needed. The ancient Persians (the people, not the cats) believed that when a cat died, it’s soul stayed behind to help the next cat.

    • Thank you so much for this beautiful thoughts. I wanted to wait for months to get another cat but I’m so happy this story happened to me. And so glad I found this beautiful boy in a shelter.

  12. Wat een mooie woorden allemaal!!! Bowie vergeten we nooit, maar Jimi kan je leven aanvullen.
Geniet van de tijd om elkaar te leren kennen, we komen snel eens piepen ❤ .

  13. I would’ve done the same if the cat comes straight to me. I’m a cat lover. I’m glad you decided to adopt him.
I’m sure Mr. Bowie’s spirit guided Jimi to choose you. From heaven he’s watching over you.

  14. Herman I am so happy for you both. I have had people tell me that they had not planned on a new cat so soon but then one miraculously appeared. Several have said it was like their old friend sent them.
    Jimi I am unhappy here.
Mr Bowie See that man? That is Herman. He is a great human and has a good home. You go introduce yourself. I don’t want my friend to be lonely in an empty house.
Jimi OK Mr Bowie, I will.I will be good company for Herman. He will not be lonely.

    • Hi Angela. Thank you so much for your beautiful comment. It feels like the way you explained in your comment, it feels like someone was pulling some strings behind the scene. Things happening that shouldn’t have happened… weird.
Hope you’re having a great day, my friend!

  15. Oh my goodness what a little cutie!!! Welcome home, Jimi, you just got the BEST forever home!! ❤ You know, almost the exact same thing happened with our cat! We had a big fluffy boy named "Cat Cat" (that name is a long story haha) that passed away in March. We were heartbroken and felt like we couldn't get another cat for awhile. When I went to the website of the shelter where we got Cat Cat, in order to deactivate his microchip, I saw a picture of a cat who was three years old and in bad need of a forever home. We went to meet him, and it wasn't long before that sweet little guy came to live with us, and we are a two-cat house once more 🙂 Of course you will always love Bowie, just as we will always love our Cat Cat. But lots of kitties out there need good homes. I'm so glad you took him in! 🙂

    • Hi M.B. Thank you so much for telling your kind story. I love the name Cat Cat, that’s a beautiful cat name… So sorry he passed away but so good you found another furry friend!
I’m still confused when I look at the way how I found Jimi. So glad and happy he’s living with me now.
Thank you so much for your kind comment, M.B.!

  16. Ohmigosh, Herman, he looks almost exactly like Gibbs did when I brought him home…except for the little white patch on his chest. So handsome and he CHOSE you. I have a feeling you will be good buds and Bowie will be happy in kitty heaven that you have a friend to keep you company. I’m very excited for you!

    • Hi Mary. When I first saw Jimi at the shelter I said to myself “Hey, I know this guy from somewhere” and later Gibbs’ image appeared in my mind!
I’m so happy I found this lovely boy, pure by accident because this shelter wasn’t on my list.
Thank you so much for your kind comment, my friend!

  17. Hi Jimi, You’ve found a very good home. Bowie is very pleased that Herman listened when you were asking for him to take you home. Mr Bowie had to leave, but life is eternal. It always starts again.

    • Hi Micheline. Thank you so much for your kind comment. You are so right; life is eternal, it always starts again, maybe in a different way.
So happy I found Jimi and he moved in to my home…

  18. I am glad Jimi chose you, Herman! It was meant to be, perhaps guided by Mr. Bowie’s celestial paw, knowing the vacuum his leaving created in your life. I will continue to enjoy reading your blog, my friend!

    • Hi Lavinia. Thank you so much for your kind words and thank you for helping me get through hard and difficult times all these years. So glad I know you, my dear friend!
I’m so happy with Jimi appearing and staying in my life…

    • Thank you so much for your kind comment and support. I do believe ‘something special’ happened to let this all be true. So happy I found this beautiful boy…

  19. The only thing I can add to what everyone else has said is: I myself feel so much happier now, knowing you have a new adventure to show-and-tell-us about. High-five Herman! High-five Jimmi! High-five Mr. Bowie’s pawprint! (Mr. Bugs says: gray cats rule.)

    • Hi Anita. Thank you so much for your kind and heartwarming comment. So glad this post made you feel happy too! And oh yes, Mr. Bugs is so right: grey cats rule for sure!
Thank you for hanging around all these years, my dear friend!

  20. Hi Jimi, welcome in the home of your new owner, Mr. Bowie probably told you about all those yummy treats, like ice cream etc. I wish you a wonderful life. Herman you are saying you found Jimi, I believe it’s the other way around, that Jim found you, I am very happy for you.

    • Hi Cornelia. Thank you so much for your kind comment and concern. It could be true that ‘someone’ informed Jimi about how good a cat life can be at my home…
So glad and happy I found this little boy and he moved in to my place.

  21. Dear Herman I am so happy to hear this, cats’ stories are very interesting, Jimi seems that were waiting for you… You did great and of course, Mr. Bowie will never be forgotten… Actually think of this, Mr. Bowie created a wonderful place in our hears, and we all love cats… and sure you too, Blessing and Happiness to you both, Jimi feels and knows where he came in and who was living there before… They smell cat life… maybe more than this, who knows. As I said, I am really happy for you both, I know what means all these days and feelings dear Herman, have a nice and enjoyable time togeether, Love, nia

    • Hi Nia. Thank you so much for your kind and heartwarming comment. This really means a lot to me, my friend! I was overwhelmed with what happened to me the last days. But I’m so happy Jimi moved in to my home. I’m sure we’ll both get along fine.
Thanks for hanging around all these years, Nia! Hope you’re having a great day!

    • Hi Domi. Thank you so much for your kind comment. I’m so happy I found Jimi in a shelter and I could bring him to a warm home.

  23. Hello dear Herman, I wished for your heart to be mended and my wish is coming true ❤ This is so wonderful. I have a Jimmy in my home, I'm married to him 😀 Mr Bowie didn't want either of you to be lonely and gave a helping paw, I truly believe it. I often think our cat Blossom is our dog buddy, especially when she rolls over for tummy rubs with perfect strangers. Maybe they visit sometimes to make sure we're OK. It makes me happy to think it, so I will. Looking forward to all your happy adventures together ! Love from Canada xB

    • Hi Boomdee, aka Kelly. Thank you so much for your beautiful and kind comment, my friend. Your story also made me feel better. Thank you for being there for me all these years, when I was going through hard and difficult times.
I’m so happy I found little Jimi and he wanted to come home with me. I’m sure we’re ready for new and exciting adventures…
Hope you’re having a great day, my dear friend!

    • Thank you so much for your kind comment and support, my friend. So glad I found this new furry friend…
Hope you’re having a great day!

    • I feel the same way… It often seems there’s something weird going on or someone’s pulling some strings. So happy I found Jimi pure by coincidence.

  24. The best cats are the ones who pick you out. MaChatte picked me out, and her siblings, (in a local, not chain) pet store, looked at me like they could care less. I see he’s a pretty dark gray color and his coat looks nice. I’m so glad that you two have each other!

    • Thank you so much for your concern and support. I’m still having mixed emotions but I’m so happy I found this little furry guy…
Hope you’re having a great weekend, my friend!

  25. It would seem as if Mr. Bowie knew you needed a new friend, and found just the right one for you. Jimi looks like our Angel Fiona, which always makes our mom’s heart lurch. We look forward to getting to know this young fellow, and we are very happy you will continue to write about Mr. B. XOCK, angel Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo, Cooper Murphy and Sawyer

    • Thank you so much for all your kind comments and support today. This really means a lot to me and makes me feel a lot better. Thank you for hanging around this blog all these years. Much appreciated!
Hope you’re having a wonderful weekend, my friends!

  26. When Ms Samantha died we felt the same way as you. But then we walked into a shelter and Lucy came right up to us and we could not go home without her. I am so glad you adopted Jimi! I think Hands on Bowie wanted you to welcome him to your world!! I am still drying my tears.

    • Hi Susan. Thank you so much for your kind comment and your story. I wanted to wait 3 or 4 months to go to a shelter. But I’m very happy I found Jimi pure by accident. It looks like it was written in the stars…

    • Thank you so much for your kind words. I do believe this was meant to be… The shelter where I found Jimi wasn’t on my list because it’s not close to my hometown and there are a lot of shelters in my neighbourhood. You can see Jimi is very happy with his new forever home…
Hope you’re having a great day, my friend!

  27. That is the best way to adopt a new animal – when it just happens and feels right.
I am sure Mr Bowie is smiling down on you both and happy that you have opened your heart and home to a cat in need.

    • Thank you so much, my friend. It gives me a good feeling reading all your warm comments.
I wanted to wait some months but I’m very glad I found Jimi by accident. And it looks like he’s very happy in his forever home…

  28. Okay, now I’m tearing up because this is such a sweet synchronistic meeting. You two do have a connection–that’s why he picked you. He felt it too. I’m so happy for you and for Jimi. You saved his life. I look forward to reading about your adventures with Jimi and continued stories about Mr. Bowie.

    Cheers!

    • Thank you so much for your kind comments today, CatLady. Looking back to what happened and how I found Jimi makes me believe it was all meant to be. Just as if someone up there was pulling some strings…
Jimi’s doing great and he’s very happy in his new forever home. And he makes me feel better too… So glad I have found this sweet boy!

    • I wanted to wait for a few months but when I saw this little boy I knew immediately I had to help him. I’m still having mixed feelings but I’m happy Jimi found his forever home…

  29. Well done. I found this very touching to read. I’m so glad you found room in your heart for the little cat. I hope you can help each other deal with your losses.

    • Hi Susan. Thank you so much for your kind comment and concern. I’m so happy I found this sweet boy. I’m sure we will take good care of each other…

    • Thank you so much for your kind comment, my friend. I wanted to wait for a few months but I’m so happy I found this little boy by accident…

  30. Welcome Jimi
Cats sometimes choose us. Why ? What happened in their heads the moment they saw us, is it a smell that attracted them, is it our behavior, have they read in our thoughts the recent past that makes us sad again?
I wholeheartedly hope that you will spend many years together and that you will forge very strong links.
    I’m happy for you

    • Thank you so much for your kind comment, Yoshimi.
It was a very strange experience the first time I met Jimi in the shelter. There were 5 cats in the room. When I entered the room, Jimi was the only cat who was interested in me. I was so happy there was a connection from the first time we saw each other…

      • I had this one day going to adopt a cat, many years ago.
I was in the cat room and there were all those big cages (with access to the outside). The attendant opened a cage and a cat literally jumped into my arms.
I said I take that one
He was not very handsome (he was left 3 weeks in an apartment without food and drink and it was the firefighters who rescued him), but after a few weeks with me I found him the most beautiful in the world. His name was Adagio
With EOS …. ❤ ❤ ❤ our meeting was different
        Every meeting is different
Big hugs to Jimi (I hope he likes that)

  31. I am glad that you decided to adopt little Jimi. I understand about feeling guilty. When my Abbey died the little black cat my sister-in-law was fostering just reached the age where he was able to be adopted so we took him and named him Puck. I felt a little guilty too but realized that that giving this cat a home was Abbey’s legacy.

    • Hi Sir Albertus. Thank you so much for your kind comment. I’m so happy that I found Jimi in the shelter. And hew seems to like his new home… I will take good care of this sweet boy!

    • Thank you so much for all your kind and heartwarming comments today, my friend. This means a lot to me!
I have a feeling someone up there was pulling some strings to make this happen…

    • Hi Hedy. Thank you so much for all your kind and heartwarming comments today. This really means a lot to me. I’m feeling better now and enjoying the company of my new furry friend.
I’m taking Jimi to a medical check up later today. He seems to suffer a little bit from an old healing wound.

  32. Oh my goodness! I missed almost two months of posts through a WordPress glitch and had no idea Bowie had sent you someone to love! I’m so happy for you–it’s not disrespectful. As you said, we have little control over how things happen.

    • I’m so glad I found this sweet little boy. It was pure by accident because I wanted to wait a while to find another cat. It really looks like someone was pulling some strings to make this all happen…
Glad you’re back up to date, Bernadette! Hope you’re having a great day!
