A Room with a View

Hot (hotter, hottest). Okay, I’m going to huff and puff during the making of this post. I will try to be brief. For the third time this year, we’re having a heat wave. A recurrent phenomenon the last 3-4 years that deserves our attention and more research. Thank goodness there’s ice cream and cool milkshakes to comfort me…

As you probably remember, I did a complete makeover in my house. All the curtains were also removed and replaced with black, aluminium blinds. Mr. Bowie prefers them a little bit up so he can still enjoy the view outside.

Enjoy this beautiful day, my friends, wherever you are. Peace, love and understanding.

  1. Hi Mr. Bowie and Herman…..the weather everywhere is just “different” and we can’t help but think it’s the Earth screaming for attention. I hope it gets the well deserved help. Meanwhile milkshakes, ice cream, welcome cool evening breezes all help us get by. Love your view Mr. Bowie – and I’m sure you like the new look in your home as well…….it’s always nice to change up your world once in a while!

    Hugs, Pam and Teddy

  2. so beautiful photograph. The strange weather hits all of us… summer is not summer as before, and spring, autumn same too… Cats confused too as us…. Thank you, Love, nia

    • Hi Nia. You’re so right, the weather and the seasons are acting very weird the last years.
Thank you for your kind comment. Hope you’re having a wonderful day!

  3. Kitties love having the blinds up a bit. We have mini blinds that the kitties just walk through if we don’t have them up. Enjoy you ice cream.

    • Thank you, Tim. Just enjoyed my coffee ice cream. Mr. B wasn’t around to join me, he’s somewhere in the shadow in his secret spot in the garden I guess.
Bowie doesn’t like the shades because they are too heavy to move aside with his head.

  4. All mine love the blinds up just to comfortable for cats to look out height. Normally I’m not fond of blinds but I love yours. I’ll bet they are EU only so I couldn’t find them here. (sigh) Stay cool Herman, as cool as your new house look .

    • Hi Angela. I’m not fond of blinds either. It’s the first time I actually like them because they look kinda ‘cool’ in my new living room. It took a while to get used to it.
Thank you so much for your kind comment. Hope you’re having a great day!

  5. I love your makeover! But agree about the heat. We’ve had two so far, and higher temperatures than normal, though right now it’s quite cool and hoping heat is done for the year.

    • Hi Bernadette. Normally, I really hate the winter but now I’m almost looking forward to it… I love summer and warm, even hot days but this situation is getting out of control.
Thank you so much for your kind comment.

  6. Very good place for Mr. Bowie to watch birds. The heat wave, also the third one is here, too. The weather is very warm and the humidity is very high. The worst combination. Icecream is just great for these days.

    • So true, especially the ice cream part… The humidity is much higher, way too high.
I was thinking about having a vacation in the north of Finland to escape from this heat, but it seems that’s not a good solution… So I better stick with the ice cream and milkshakes.

  7. 😻 Mr. Bowie is adorable!! And I love what you’ve done with the place. Cheers to ice cream and milkshakes as well 🙂

We are in agreement about needing to pay attention to all of this wild weather. There is most definitely a reason! Especially with the humidity, it is suffocating. Be safe! ♥

    • Hi Holly. Welcome on HoB.
Thank you so much for your kind comment. Glad you liked the post and the photographs. It took some weeks to get used to the new environment, the cool industrial look. But now it feels like home.

Hope you’re having a great day!

      • Thank you so much! I am enjoying visiting you very much 🙂

Isn’t it funny how when we have a vision in our heads and make it our reality – there is still that ‘shock to our system’ factor, even if it’s good? I’m glad you and warming up to the changes and it’s more and more like home. Blessings to you & yours! 🌻

        • Thank you, Holly!
I’m always having problems with changes in my life, minor or major, good or bad. Sometimes I wish nothing would ever change but maybe life would become a dull place? 😉

  8. The place looks great, Herman! Mr. Bowie looks like he is enjoying the view. 🙂

We are in for a bit of a heat spike here this week, starting today. Overall, it has been a pleasant August. Can’t complain, much. 🙂

Stay cool, and stay well, both of you!

    • Hi Lavinia! Thank you so much for your kind comment, my dear friend! Glad you liked the post.

It took a while to get used to my new living room but now it feels like home. Mr. B had also some problems, he doesn’t like walking on the stairways because it’s painted. Maybe he doesn’t like the colour? 😉

Hope you’re having a great day! Mr. Bowie says “Meow!” and sends his regards to everyone at the Farm!

    • Hi there, my friends! Thank you so much for your kind comment!
There are a lot of sparrows in the trees outside so Mr. B loves to watch them for hours…
Hope you’re having a great day! Mr. Bowie says “Meow!” and sends his regards!

    • Thank you so much for your kind comment. Glad you liked this post and the photographs!
Hope you’re having a great day!

  9. The title of your post almost sounds like a Hitchcock thriller. 🙂

About the temperature, maybe you can suggest to the weather office to color their temperature maps to a “cooler” color.

    • Hi David. Well, the heat feels like the exciting end of a Hitchcock thriller!

Love your idea about changing the red colour into a ‘cooler’ one on the temperature maps. I’m going to forward your comment to our National Bureau of Meteorology & Weather. 😉

  10. Belaud is sharing the joy. The windows in this apartment are full-length sliding doors. He walks across the balcony to go from the great room to the bedroom and vice versa. Simple pleasures on both sides of the pond.

    • Hi Micheline. I love to see cats enjoy living with us. It helps me to relax and see things in the right context. Cats know how to make the best of live.

  11. Hello Herman, I am sorry there is another heat wave. Please take care and try to stay “cool” and safe. And of course hope your father, family and Mr. Bowie stays safe too.

    • Hi Takami. Thank you so much for your kind comment and concern! I’m keeping an extra eye on my father and Mr. B. They need to drink more water and stay cool on these hot days.
Hope you’re having a great day, my friend!

  12. We also have aluminum blinds covering shorter windows above the air-conditioning unit in the space separating the great room and the and the bedroom. The sliding doors are on diagonal walls. The balcony is a large deck, a cat’s room. My brother chose aluminum blinds rather than curtains. A modern look for a modern cat.

    • Never underestimate the taste of a modern cat… They know how to decorate a house. I’m happy with the new blinds. First I wanted to get new curtains but I’m glad I got the aluminium blinds. It gives the house a modern look.
Hope you’re having a great day, Micheline!

  13. Moshu my cat and I agree with you, finally the heat wave hit Southern California really hard and it’s no fun… feeling sticky all day long, ice cream helps a bit, but only for a few moments. Moshu doesn’t even want to crawl into bed at night, two hot bodies would be too much for both of us. Mr. Bowie really got the best spot there. Stay cool my friends.

    • Haha… so true. When I’m looking at the light grey colours, it already cools me down (a little bit). Thank you so much for your kind comment, my friend!

  14. Oh no, another heat wave for you. You did say by next year you might have A/C. As we heat up overall, I hope you can do that. You have your ice cream, but too hot is too hot! I hope this wave of it doesn’t last too long. Be well, you and Mr. Beautiful Bowie.

    • Thank you so much for your kind comment. As you know, I hate winter and cold temperatures. I just love summer and warm, hot temperatures. But this is just too too much… I can see Mr. B is also getting tired of this weather. Thank goodness we’re getting cooler weather next week.
Thank you for tweeting my post. Much appreciated! Hope you’re having a great day in your garden!

    • Thank you so much for your kind comment, Christine. We’re looking forward to the cooler days next week… It almost make me long for winter… 😉

Thanks for tweeting the post. Much appreciated, my friend!

  15. While you are in a heat wave, Herman, our weather has been a bit fall-ish the last few days. The change of seasons is in the air here and the kids are starting to go back to school.

It’s too bad you can’t bottle up the hot air and save it for winter…or ship it to me in January. 😉

    • Hi Julie. Thank you so much for your kind comment. We’re getting cooler weather next Monday, finally… But September also means that summer’s coming to an end in this part of the world.
Mr. Bowie says “Meow!” and sends his regards! Wishing you a great weekend, my friend!

  16. Dear cool dudes of Belgium, glad you can get relief form these terrible heat waves. You’re having crazy hot weather and we’re having crazy amounts of rain. Like epic, build an Arc, type weather. But I won’t complain, I’m far more blessed than many to be warm and cozy inside with the kitty’s. BTW, I love how your windows come right to the floor and the new blinds are very stylish in manly black. Puuurrrrfect for you boys 😀 xo Boomdee

    • Hi Boomdee. Thank you so much for your kind comment! Please, could you mail us some of that fresh rain? The garden is having a very hard time… Thank goodness we’re getting cooler weather next week.
Hope you’re having a great weekend, my friend! Mr. Bowie says “Meow!” and sends his regards!

  17. Mr. Bowie himself is the best view ever!
Hope you two have a fantastic weekend and send us some of your heatwave so that I could take off that jacket I am wearing 😉 I, in turn, will try to send you a bit of that orange alert rainfall we are expecting tonight, if you don’t mind 🙂

    • Hi Inese. Thank you so much for your kind comment and it seems your rain and cooler weather has arrived in this part of Europe. We’re finally having cool weather and rain showers… But it’s already September, and that makes me feel a bit sad because summer’s coming to an end…
I enjoyed your latest post about the Fox Man, a very beautiful story!

Hope you’re having a great Sunday, my friend!

  18. My kitty boys destroyed the bottom part of the blinds in all my rooms. Of course, there is the conflict between personal privacy versus trhe needs of the cats. The idea of replacing them with more substantial (and expensive!) blinds appeals to me. Wood or metal blinds probably could withstand even the most determined kitty.

That said, I hope you survive the heat wave!

    • Hi Doug. I’m lucky that Mr. B is a senior cat and he’s taking his cat life very easy and relaxed. He doesn’t seems to be interested in testing out the quality of the blinds…
Thank goodness the temperature dropped with 10 degrees Celsius this week and we’re having cool weather with occasionally a rain shower. I think we had enough heat waves for this year…

    • Hi Hedy. It looks like the Alberta coolness has arrived in this part of the world. It’s much cooler now, I have to wear a sweater… I’m starting to miss the heat waves of last summer.
Hope you’re having a great Sunday!
