Europe 7/25

Europe is hot hot hot. Heat records tumble in Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands. The most extreme heat will build from central and northern France into Belgium. We definitely need more ice cream, milkshakes, fresh fruit and smoothies… Thank goodness I got friendly neighbours with a swimming pool.

Enjoy this beautiful day, my friends, wherever you are. Peace, love and understanding.

  1. I hope Mr. Bowie is dealing well with the heat. I’m used to pet heat issues, living as I do in an area where this heat is (unfortunately) the norm in summer.

I like to take plastic sealable sandwich bags, fill them up a little with water, freeze them, then bring them out for the kitty boys to lick during the hottest part of the day. Of course, I put the ice in a little water.

I have air conditioning if it gets unbearable hot, but I use the comfort of my cats as my gauge for turning it on. (I don’t like really cool air conditioning like most Americans do!)

A simple fans can make my kitties comfortable most days. Me, too, though that swimming pool you have next door sounds like an even better soliution to surviving the heat!

    • Hi Doug. People in this part of the world ar not used living with such extreme high temperatures. Normally, the temperatures stay below 30°C in the summer. But the last 3 years we’re having these heat waves more often… A lot of my neighbours bought air-condition cooling systems for there homes. But I prefer a swimming pool… 😉
I’m changing Mr. Bowie’s water often. He gets fresh water with ice cubes. And maybe a little weird, he’s not a big fan of ice cream.

Have a wonderful day, my friend!

  2. Yikes! I am bracing myself, but relieved to ‘only’ be in the middle, orange band. Prudently we have a small tub of ice cream waiting in the fridge!

    • I would love to be in the middle, orange band right now. It’s way too hot this week… Please enjoy your ice cream, it’s a live-saver on hot days…

  3. I don’t see Mr. Bowie using the pool, he is not a Bengal. I hope you have an alternative for him. Our heat wave broke under the effect of some thunderstorms but I felt it sneaking back yesterday..Have fun in the pool.

    • Hi Angela. Mr. Bowie gets a lot of fresh cooled water and he loves to put his paws in the bowl on extreme hot days. Thank goodness I can dive into a swimming pool…

    • I would love to be in an orange zone right now. We just hit the 40°C mark… Mr. Bowie doesn’t want to go outside. He’s a very wise cat…

    • We’ll definitely follow your advice, Tim! Mr. Bowie dipped his paws in the water bowl but said no to the swimming pool…

  4. I’ve been seeing news about so much of Europe having these awful conditions. That pool sounds good, and ice cream, always. We need air conditioning here with heat and humidity in the summers. Once years ago when mine wasn’t working and the repairman couldn’t get here till the next day, MaChatte was telling me she was definitely too hot. I laid a wet washcloth over her as she laid on her side, and at first she wondered what was happening……then decided that felt pretty good! Keep cool somehow, and I hope it doesn’t last very long.

    • The temperatures will drop down next weekend to 25°C. That will feel like heaven… Mr. Bowie prefers to stay inside, he doesn’t like this extreme heat. Normally the highest temperatures in the summer are a few days just above 30°C. But 40°C is way too hot for us… The last 3 years we had such extreme temperatures. There’s a good chance I’ll buy an air-conditioning system next summer.
As always, thank you so much for the tweets!

    • Hi Walter. Thank you for your comment. You are so right, I’m taking care of my dad, Mr. Bowie and myself to check if we drink enough water on these hot days…

  5. We live in a place that is usually hot in summer, but not as hot as what Europe is now experiencing! So I know you have to really careful not to overdo when the temps are that high. Stay safe and all the best to you and Mr. Bowie!

    • Thank you so much for your comment and concern. Thank goodness the temperatures will drop tomorrow with almost 15 degrees…
      Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

  6. I hear you, Europe’s temperatures are beating by now California’s. For Moshu I have replaced her cozy blankets to a white cool linen sheet , that makes her more comfortable. The thing is when it’s that hot, it’s more likely to get fleas, so I have to treat her for that, which she hates, because it’s being injected into her neck. Does that happen to Mr.Bowie too?? Unfortunately she is not into ice cream, so I have to eat her portion. Have a great weekend you All.

    • Hi Cornelia! Thank goodness the temperatures are dropping tomorrow with almost 15 degrees. Unfortunately, there will be very heavy thunderstorms and rainfall.
I don’t like to treat Mr. Bowie with chemicals on his fur so I try to avoid this. But last month while he was 4 days in the hospital they treated him for a fleas outbreak.
What a coincidence, Mr. B’s also not into ice cream so I have to eat his portion too… 😉
Wishing you a wonderful weekend, Cornelia!

      • I am happy to hear that the temperature is dropping down, finally. I do understand your point of not having chemicals in Mr.B’s fur, I do totally feel the same. I try to extend doing that as much as possible. Hey , you are lucky to get his portion of ice cream, I was hoping for that for you. Enjoy your week.

        • I’m lucky with Mr. Bowie concerning ice cream. My previous cat, Mrs. Jones, ate as much ice cream as me…

  7. Just keep lots of ice cream and ice and hopefully cooler weather will come your way soon. Here we are having record breaking cool temps but they say they will be gone by next week…maybe they will come your way. Hugs and nose kisses

  8. A swimming pool next door? Oh boy, Herman, what more could you ask for? I suppose, though, that Bowie is not excited about a pool and would prefer to stay in the comfort of the air conditioning.

We had extremely hot weather last weekend, but it ended with a very bad storm, lots of trees down and people without electricity. I hope nothing like that happens to break your heat wave, but that you gradually come down off the hellish weather.

Stay cool and give Bowie a chin scritch from me and the kids.

    • Hi Mary. The temperature dropped down last night (thank goodness no storm) and now we’ll have rain for 2 days. It’s way cooler now but it won’t stop me from having ice cream…
Hope you’re having a great weekend, my friend! Mr. Bowie says “Meow!” and sends his regards!

    • Oh yes, you are so right. It’s very important to keep an eye at our friends and give them fresh cool water during the day.
Hope you’re having a wonderful day!

    • Hi David. The freezer-zone is my favourite spot in the supermarket. I love to take my time while deciding how many ice cream I’ll buy…
Thank goodness the temperature dropped down last night. It’s around 23-25°C right now.
Hope you’re having a great day, my friend!

    • Hi Julie. It was way too hot for Mr. B. He preferred to stay inside during the day. Thank you for the fine advice concerning the ice cream… Hope you’re having a wonderful day, my friend!

  9. Glad you survived the heat with the help of good friends (pool) and ice cream. Don’t know how much Mr. Bowie benefited from the pool, but I am sure he appreciated the cool dessert 😉

    • I’m very lucky having such friendly neighbours! Mr. B stayed inside while I was swimming but he enjoyed his cool desserts for sure…

    • Hi Crystal. We had 2 days of rain and thank goodness, the temperature dropped to 25°C. It will stay cooler the next days. It was way too hot for us last week…

    • Hi Mary. Thank goodness we’re having cooler weather in this part of the world. It’s around 25°C right now. Stay cool, my friend and have some delicious ice cream…

  10. Has it cooled down yet? If it hasn’t, you can suggest to the weather bureau to change the color of the temperature to a cooler color … like a green, blue, or purple. 🙂

    • Hi David. Oh yes, we’re having very comfortable temperatures this week around 25°C. Mr. Bowie is also enjoying his cooler days outside. But this won’t stop us from having ice cream, okay, once a day… 😉

    • Welcome on HoB! Thank you for visiting and following the blog. Much appreciated!
It looks like we can blame the heat on the climate change. The last 4-5 years we’re having extreme hot periods in the summer and rather warm winters in this part of the world. Or is is just a glitch of Mother Nature? Personally, I think we can’t ignore climate change…

      • Interesting but there are some who still don’t believe in climate change. I guess we are going to have to wait and see. The big question is, how bad will it get, where you are, before people catch up with your understanding to do something about it?

        • Guess you are right. But I don’t think it’s wrong to keep an eye on the way how you’re living. I try to avoid using my car a lot, I walk a lot, take my bike and I never travel with an aeroplane. I also try to avoid going in discussion on matters like this (and others). Going into a debat is often just a waste of time if your opponent doesn’t want to listen… But hey, I respect everyone’s opinion.
