Record-Breaking Heat Wave

Another record-smashing heat wave! This week the Belgian’s all-time record temperature will be broken, with highs of above 40°C forecast. The Heat Health Alert level Code Red is in force since yesterday. We need to stay inside, drink a lot of water and have a lot of ice cream, of course.

This morning, while Mr. Bowie was having a break, the temperature was already above 30°C in the shade. Now if you’ll excuse us, we have to get ready to go swimming and have another dose of ice cream.

Enjoy this beautiful day, my friends, wherever you are. Peace, love and understanding.

  1. We just survived a string ot deplorably hot days here in Virginia. I couldn’t let the cats enjoy their favorite sun porch at all, it felt like an oven. They still hate me a little for it.

    • Mr. Bowie came back inside at noon. It’s just way too hot, even for a cat… He’s enjoying his fresh cooled water right now…

  2. Dog days were common in Quebec, Ontario’ etc. but Vancouver and Victoria were spared. However, they now have heat waves that kill people. I cannot stand heat, so I live in air-conditioned quarters. If I had any influence, builders would be required to install air-conditioning everywhere. The poor suffer more than the rich. I live in the humblest apartment in this building, but the building is air-conditioned. I have hotel air-conditioning which is bit noisy. However,it cools off the entire apartment and cannot be heard in the bedroom. I also have an extraordinary fan.Turbo-aire by Seebreeze. I just realized that it’s made in Canada (everything is imported). It’s an excellent addition. We don’t need Donald Trump. Nor do we need larger cars. Take care, Micheline

    • Hi Micheline. We’re having a lot of extreme hot days in the summer the last years. A lot of my neighbours have bought (noisy) air-conditioning installations to cool down there bedrooms and living rooms. I’m also considering of getting one… For the moment, I’m using 2 giant fans, but Mr. Bowie hates it when they are blowing…
And yes, I fully agree with your end conclusion in the comment. Have a wonderful day, my dear friend!

  3. Excellent solution to the heat – ice cream, iced latte – both work quite nicely AND deliciously! I hope you and Mr. Bowie can keep cool and happy…………..we had some 99 degree temps and heat index of 109 so it’s been super hot here too. We have QUIET A/C in our house thankfully!

    Hugs, Pam and Teddy too

    • Hi Pam! Feel free to join us for ice cream and coffee…
I’m thinking about getting an A/C too, but it must be a very quiet one because Mr. B hates extreme noise in his house…
Wishing you a wonderful day, my dear friend!

    • Oh yes, I’m also looking forward to the big storm and rain showers… It’s just way too hot right now. Even Mr. Bowie stays inside from noon…

Wishing you a wonderful day, my friends!

    • Hi Greg. It must be very hard for cats with such hot weather. Mr. Bowie stays inside from noon. He doesn’t like this heat…

    • Oh yes, we’ll be hiding in cool places and have lots of ice cream to keep cool.
Have a wonderful day, my friends!

  5. Hello, Mr. Herman.
The record-breaking heat in Europe has been in the news here too. Please do stay cool and safe with Mr. Bowie and all your family 🙂
    Best wishes, Takami

    • Hi Takami. Thank you so much for your kind comment. I have to keep an eye on my Dad (and Mr. Bowie). They need to drink a lot and stay cool.
Wishing you a wonderful day, my dear friend!

  6. Here in Auch (in the south of France, near Toulouse) the temperature rises to 40°. Since Monday, we live like moles. Even our cat Ticha is completely worn out. Long live the freshness!

    • Hi Domi. Actually it’s very funny. I used to go on vacation in the south of France (Provence and Hautes-Alpes) for the warm and hot weather. Nowadays I should go to the south of France to cool down… 😉
      Stay cool, my friend!

    • Hi Mags. The temperatures will drop down this weekend with 15 degrees. I think 25°C is just ok for me and Mr. B.

  7. Oh Snap !! 40 C is unreal ! My gosh, my dear Belgium friends, please be safe ! How’s you dad managing with it. We all must mind our elderly friends and family when it’s so very hot. Also the homeless and strays. I feel like I’m leaving a downer message so I will add this link, ‘ Eleven reasons why you should date a Belgian’ 😀 xK

    • Hi Boomdee! Thank you so much for your comment and concern. I’m taking extra care of my Dad and we’re having ice cream together in the evening. Mr. Bowie gets a lot of fresh and cool water. He prefers to stay inside while it’s so hot… Thank goodness the temperature dropped down last night and we’re having cool rain showers.
Thank you for the supporting link. It’s nice to see some beautiful facts about Belgium… 🙂
Hope you’re having a wonderful weekend, my dear friend!

  8. I am sorry to hear about the heat wave, Herman. So far our July has been more hospitable than in past years here, although August is yet to come. Stay cool, Herman and Mr. Bowie!

    • Hi Lavinia. Hope everything is ok out there on the Farm. Looking forward to read your next post, my friend!
Thank goodness it’s a lot cooler right now…

  9. Oh that was awfully hot! We never had any heat here. Max +19 C, but they had a comfortable +26 C in Dublin, and I am jealous since it is only 170 km from where I live. Glad to hear the heat is almost over. Mr. Bowie, you look handsome in extreme conditions, as you always do!

    • Hi Julie. Thank goodness the temperature dropped seriously and is now back to normal. But this won’t stop me from having milkshake with lots of ice cream…
