Good Feeling Part 2

Okay Mr. Bowie… you can relax now. Yesterday, Mr. Bowie had a medical check-up concerning his ear and eye problems. Thank goodness we got very good lab results; he’s in a good condition and no problems found with his heart, thyroid gland or kidneys. Unfortunately, there’s a slight drop in Mr. Bowie’s blood pressure but it’s still a little bit too high. It looks like the new hypoallergenic dietary food had no real effect on Mr. B’s blood pressure. There’s also the possibility that stress and anxiety is causing this high blood pressure. He had a hard time during collecting his blood samples a few months ago… We will follow up this issue the next months.

Mr. Bowie also lost 1 kg of weight because he doesn’t like his new diet food. I’m going to switch gradually back to his favourite food. And of course, he deserves some extra treats at the end of the year… Next medical check-up is planned April next year. We’re going to enjoy the Holidays, my furry friend!

Enjoy this beautiful day, my friends, wherever you are. Peace, love and understanding.

    • Hi Takami! Thank you so much, my friend!
Wishing you a wonderful day and all the best for you and your family in 2019!

  1. Best wishes for a successful check up in April! My kitty boy Andy has a check up that month as well, for blood pressure, too. Though his blood pressure is high normal, the hope is the medicine will help bring it down to normal, then he can get by with one dose a day instead of two.

I don’t know how Belgian veterinarians take a cat’s blood pressure, but I imagine it involves the same sortt of preparation as here – shave a spot on the foot or tail, attach the cuff, and take five or six measurements (while the kitty get moire and more stressed out!), throw out the highest measurement, and average the rest.

I wonder how many times a kitty’s high blood pressure is more a measure of the stress of being at the veterinarian’s and of having the insult of shaving a spot to take the blood pressure measurements!

After poor Mr. Bowie’s ordeal with eay and ear infections, it’s good news indeed to know his veterinarian found him free of these infections this time! give him a ‘good for you!’ “scritch” for me! The Persian kitty boys Andy and Dougy say “Meow!” (Dougy’s had eye infections in past, and hate, hate, hates to get medicine in his eye!)

    • Hi Doug! Thank you so much for your kind comment, my friend.
The local vets follow the same preparations and procedure for taking the cat’s blood pressure like you mentioned in your comment. But I’m wondering too if the stress and anxiety is the reason of the high blood pressure. My heart rate and blood pressure also go up when I’m seeing a doctor…

Hope you’re having a wonderful day and wishing you a very happy ending of the year! Mr. Bowie says “Meow!” and sends his regards to Andy and Dougy!

      • When I take the two kitty boys for their scheduled shots, I ask them to take Andy’s blood pressure first to help minimize his stress. He actually is very good on the examination table (Dougy always wants to hop off the table so he can explore the room…), but the longer they take to do the blood pressure check, the more he starts to get “growly”!

    • No problemo, Doug. I can fix it if you prefer it, my friend! 🙂
I’m having the same problem concerning typos…

  2. Hi Herman and Mr. Bowie! Did the doctor say Mr. B’s eye and ear issues are OK? I hope so…..as for his BP I too often wonder how much being AT the vet and having that stress effects our cats’ BP. I just hope Mr. B and you have a beautiful, calm, and peaceful holiday together. It’s always so good to hear an update from you. Hugs to both of you from Teddy and me………..

    Pam

    • Hi Pam! Yes, everything is ok with Mr. B. Let’s hope he will stay healthy for a long time now…
Wishing you a wonderful day and a very happy ending of the year, my dear friend! Mr. Bowie says “Meow!” and sends his regards!

  4. Hooray!! 😀 So glad to hear that Mr Bowie is doing well and the nasty bugs have gone away. 🙂
Poor old boy, he has had a rough time of it for quite a long time now. I am sure that your TLC and pampering will help further reduce his BP.
Enjoy the festive season – and all the extra treats. 😀

    • Thank you so much, my friend! So glad Mr. Bowie is still in a good and healthy condition.
Hope you’re having a wonderful day and wishing you a very happy ending of the year!

    • Hi Tim. Thank you, I’m thinking the same thing like you. I’m also stressed every time I have to go to a medical check-up. I’m even stressed during Mr. Bowie’s check-up… Maybe the vet should measure my blood pressure too…

      • I agree with Tim, Herman. Mr. Bowie has been through a lot lately. He probably hates the sights, sounds and smells of the vets office. Some of the vets here will actually send a portable blood pressure unit home with the cat after showing the owner how to use it, so the owner can take the cat’s blood pressure under less trying circumstances. Back when we had old Mr. Austin, we did this for him.

        • Hi Lavinia! I wish I could see what’s going on in Mr. Bowie’s mind… I guess he’s really tired of all the hospital visits (and treatments, tests…) from the last years… No wonder his BP is a little bit too high. Let’s hope he stays in a good and healthy period for a long time.
A portable blood pressure unit should be very handy. But maybe he’s just tired of all that stuff…

Wishing you a wonderful day, my dear friend! Mr. Bowie says “Meow!” and sends his regards!

  5. Well done with the check up, Mr. Bowie. I think Doug makes a very good point about the blood pressure reading. It’s certainly recognised effect among humans, to the extent that some practices send patients home with the equipment to take their own blood pressure. And cats are so sensitive. Not having your favourite food must also be a bit stressful. It would be for me 🙂

    • Hi Tish! I fully agree with your comment, thank you so much. I talked to the vet about testing Mr. Bowie’s blood pressure at home, without a vet in the neighbourhood. We’re going to think about it…
Not having my favourite chocolate and espresso in the morning would probably drive me nuts… and my blood pressure would be sky high I guess… 😉

  6. Good news for the most part! Anxiety at the doctor’s will drive up BP, so hopefully that’s part of it. It’s good that you can go back to the food he likes the best. Christmas season means treats for all, so make sure you have plenty for him….and you! Enjoy this wonderful season, warm and cozy I hope.

    • Hi Nia! Thank you so much for your kind comment.
Hope you’re having a wonderful day and wishing you a very happy year ending!
Mr. Bowie says “Meow!” and send his regards!

  7. Thank you for the update. Stress and anxiety could certainly be driving his blood pressure up. It happens in humans so it could happen in cats.

    • Hi Sarah! You are so right, I’m having the same problem when going to the hospital for a medical check-up. And I guess my blood pressure is also high when they are performing tests on Mr. Bowie…
Wishing you and your family a very happy year ending!

  8. I’ll never get a normal BP in a doctor’s office and I understand why I’m there, they just scare the crap out of me. Think of Mr. Bowie’s stress level — you know he’s about had it with them!

    • So true, I fully agree with your comment. I guess he’s really tired of all that stuff. I hope he stays healthy for a long period now and forgets all the bad and terrifying things that happened to him the last years… Glad I’m not in his shoes… I hate hospitals and blood tests too!

    • Thank you so much, Joanne! We fully agree with the ‘eat and drink’ part in your comment, my friend.
Wishing you a wonderful day and a very happy ending of the year!

  9. Thank goodness for positive lab results! So…Bowie might be stressed? Stop being mean to him, Herman. 😉
Seriously, though, the vet had to put Gibbs on an anti depressant last year because the stress of his bladder infection and many trips to the vet was counter acting the good of the antibiotics. It’s so frustrating when our pets feel anxiety and we don’t know it or what causes it. I hope Bowie has plenty of winter’s time to relax and nap and feel 100%. Love and hugs from the kids and I.

    • Hi Mary! Thank you so much for your kind comment. Sometimes I wish we could understand our furry friends a little bit better, or we could talk to them… 😉
Mr. Bowie had a hard time, the last 2 years especially. Let’s hope he stays in a good and healthy condition for a long time and we can avoid going to the hospital. That’s the only thing I wish for Christmas… 😉

Hope you’re having a wonderful day and wishing you a very happy ending of the year, my friend!

  10. Hi Herman and Mr.Bowie, you both went successfully through another vet visit, thanks god with good results. His ” Majesty’s” higher blood pressure is totally understandable after all he had to go through…when I have to take my Moshu to the vet, my blood pressure is even higher than her’s, because I suffer so much for her. Wish you both a cozy and wonderful Christmas time with lots of treats and naps. Moshu says Meow to you both.

    • Hi Cornelia! Thank you so much for your kind comment. You are so right, I’m also very nervous and anxious when I’m taking Mr. Bowie to the vet… Guess my blood pressure is also reaching for the stars…
Hope you’re having a wonderful day and wishing you a very happy ending of the year, my friend!

    • Hi Christine! Thank you so much for your kind comment. Let’s hope I can send out more good reports concerning Mr. B’s health next year…
Hope you’re having a wonderful day and wishing you a very happy ending of the year!

    • Oh yes, I’m so happy Mr. Bowie’s in a good condition and good health. Guess the high blood pressure is only caused by the stress… I was stressed myself… 😉

  11. It seems there is always something, doesn’t it? Hopefully the worst is over. As much as Mr. Bowie has been through I can imagine a vet visit elevates his blood pressure. I identify with him not liking his special food. I am so glad you are able to get him back on something he likes. My Cloud is supposed to go on an anti-inflammatory diet, there were blood cells in his urine last checkup. No bacteria though. None of my cats has liked the special diets, I am really thinking of making them food from scratch. Luckily I live near farms where I can get organic meats and I found a recipe from a holistic vet you can make in a crock pot.

    • Hi Angela! Thank you so much for your kind comment. Mr. Bowie used to like the car rides and vet visits. But his behaviour changed over the last months and he’s very nervous and anxious… Thank goodness his ear and eye are still ok.
It was the first time Mr. Bowie didn’t like a special diet. I’m glad I can give him again his favourite food.
Wow! That’s very impressive how you can make that special cat food… Hope the cats will like it…
Hope you’re having a wonderful day and wishing you a very happy ending of the year!

  12. Hope Mr Bowie is back on his favourite food now. No wonder he is feeling stressed with diet foods and vet visits. He looks chilled out at the moment though. Hopefully a quiet time ahead to rest and recuperate – for you both!

    • Hi Jill! Thank you so much for your kind comment and concern. I’m sure Mr. Bowie will feel much better and more relaxed now we can switch back to his favourite food. And the next visit at the vet is planned for April next year…
Wishing you a very happy ending of the year!

  13. Hey, Herman! 🙂 Nice to see your new post!

Sometimes cats like to eat food which seems to them delicious, though it could be even harmful (the same like people, you know). So maybe you can think more about what food is better for Mr. Bowie.

My cat has another problem, she is so thin and she can’t gain weight though she eats food with high protein. Though thank God she is not critically thin, just a bit anorexic.

    • Hi Alena! Welcome on HoB! Thank you so much for your kind comment and concern. Since Bowie needs hypoallergenic diet food, we had a hard time finding the right one. Thank goodness he loves the one that he needs…

Sometimes I wish we could actually talk to our cats so they would understand what we are all doing for their health and well being… And maybe Mr. Bowie would understand why I don’t share my chocolate! 😉

  14. Vrolijk Kerstfeest !

=^..^= If this kitty knew how to make that kitty smile, I sure would!

Fantastic news friends! Such a relief and a change back to your favourite food !
I hope Sinterklaas is very good to you both ! Zet je grootste schoenen voor hem om te vullen !

xo Happiest Holidays to my favourite Dutch Boys ! xo Boomdee

    • Hi there, my dear Boomdee! Always so nice to here from you and your Dutch is getting better and better (thanks to GoogleTranslate?)… Oh yes, I’m so glad Mr. Bowie is in a good health!
Mr. Bowie picked one of my big hiking boots so he got lots of treats from Sinterklaas! 🙂 Thank goodness I got some dark chocolate too…

Wishing you and your family a very happy ending of the year, my dear Boomdee! Mr. Bowie says “Meow!” and sends his regards!

  15. Glad things are going well. Snoops lost weight with her diet food because she wouldn’t eat it too – I don’t think that’s how it’s supposed to help them lose weight. 🙂 Hope you two have great holidays

    • Thank you so much for your kind comment and concern. I’m so glad Mr. Bowie is still in a good health and we can switch back to his favourite diet food.
Sorry to read Snoops is losing weight. Sometimes it would be handy if we could talk to our cats to explain why we are doing all those things… 😉
Hope you’re having a wonderful day and wishing you a very happy ending of the year!

    • Hi David! You are so right, I’m glad to see Mr. Bowie is in a good condition and good health. We both had extra treats this morning…

  16. So glad to hear the good results of the labs. Hoping sweet Mr. Bowie’s BP levels out too and very soon. I am happy to hear you plan to enjoy the holidays and Mr. Bowie will get some treats. Enjoy the holidays and the treats. Hugs and nose kisses for you all from all of us.

    • Hi Mags! Thank you so much for your kind comment and concern. I was so glad Mr. Bowie’s still in a good health and condition.
Hope you’re having a wonderful day and wishing you a very happy ending of the year! Mr. Bowie says “Meow!” and sends his regards!

  17. Herman, if you take away my favorite food, my blood pressure won’t improve. Quite the opposite. 😉 I wouldn’t mind dropping 1 kg though 😉 I like your idea of moving back to the dear Mr. Bowie’s favorite food. Now that his ear is not bothering him, happiness and routine will do good to his blood pressure. Cuddles, treats, creative work as your Assistant – all of this is a peaceful world Mr. Bowie loves. Wishing you both a wonderful and magic December! xx

    • Hi Julie! Thank you so much for your kind comment and concern. Hope everything is ok with Grace…
Hope you’re having a wonderful day and wishing you a very happy ending of the year!

PS: Mr. B fully agrees about the treats… 🙂
