A Day in the Studio

Musical update. Recently, I created a new customised work area in my recording studio. I’m working more ‘in the box’ instead of using my hardware equipment and analog synths. I bought a controller keyboard from Arturia, the KeyLab Essential 61. It gives me seamlessly integration with virtual instruments and DAW software. Right now I’m working on various contemporary orchestral songs using the great libraries from Spitfire Audio and Sound Dust.

Mr. Bowie, the studio technician, likes my new way of working. But when everything is up and running he prefers to take a break in the bathroom.

Mr. Bowie is still on his special weekend antibiotic medication. It looks like he’s alright and the situation is under control. Next month we’re going back to the hospital for a medical check-up.

Enjoy this beautiful day, my friends, wherever you are. Peace, love and understanding.

  1. I am so glad to hear Mr. Bowie is doing well. Some day I hope to hear some of your music instead of just hearing about it. I know I would love it.

    • I’m hoping to create a SoundCloud account to post some music very soon. Thank you very much for your kind comment. Hope you’re having a wonderful Sunday!

  2. Glad to hear you and Mr. Bowie are both doing well. I guess Mr. Bowie has heard the old saying about how “music soothes the savage beast” so he “lets” you (the beast) work on your music while he (the kitty companion) grabs the quiet contemplation he finds in the bathroom. To each his own I guess. Anxious to hear your SoundCloud goodies when you’re ready to share them……..Sending hugs to both of you.

    Pam and Teddy too

    • Hi there, my dear friends! Thank you so much for your kind comment. So glad Mr. Bowie’s covering my back and helping me in a creative way! 🙂
Hope you’re having a great Sunday, Pam!

    • Hi Misha! Thank you so much for your kind comment and concern.
Hope you’re having a wonderful Sunday, my dear friend!

  3. That’s looking really cool. I put together an original song (imagine that) using samples from Garage Band. I haven’t had time to make the video the will go with the song. Happy to hear Mr. Bowie is doing well.

    • Hi Tim! Looking forward to hear your new musical adventures! I’m working in Logic Pro X, but it’s close to the environment of Garage Band.
I got a (bad) feeling Mr. Bowie’s ear problems aren’t over but let’s wait for the results of the next check-up.
Hope you’re having a wonderful Sunday!

      • There are a lot of really nice music programs out there, but I just do the free stuff since my musical ability is not among my top talents. Keeping my fingers crossed for mr Bowie’s ear to be good.

        • I still keep finding musical stuff (loops, samples…) on the Internet for free. There’s no need to spend a lot of money to make good music.

  4. It’s so good that he’s on the mend! And that your music is going well. Taylor Swift, next week maybe. 🙂 Why do cats like bathtubs and showers? They have mysteries we will never understand. Rock on, Herman!

  5. Good to see Mr Bowie and know he’s on the mend. 🙂
And I love that you have his picture on your work desk, so he can still be with you even when he’s napping in the bath tub! 😀

  6. Good to hear Mr. Bowie is improving, Herman. It may take a while for the ear to really clear up entirely.

Looking forward to hearing your music! Mr. Nano and the cat crew also send their best to you and Mr. Bowie. He is still trying to get a photo of a pocket gopher for Mr. Bowie. 🙂

    • Hi Lavinia! Thank you so much for your kind comment and concern! We’re looking forward to see that photograph of the pocket gopher…
Let’s hope Mr. Bowie’s ear problems will be over next month. Don’t no why but I got a bad feeling about it…

Hope you’re having a wonderful Sunday! Mr. Bowie says “Meow!” and sends his regards to Mr. Nano and the cat crew!

  7. We’ve been so worried about Mr. Bowie so we’re glad to hear he’s doing okay. Does Mr. Bowie ever take his toys into the bathtub? Steinbeck loves to bounce his jingle balls all over the tub. He chases them back and forth and has lots of fun. Of course Mom says he makes a racket! MOL!!
    Stereo purrs………..Hemingway and Steinbeck

    • Hi Mary! Glad you liked the post and thank you so much for your kind comment and concern!
Also glad to read the move went well. Your salmon-wall office looks very beautiful.
Hope you’re having a wonderful Sunday!

  8. Looks good, do you compose for all genres or mainly Country?
I used to enjoy composition classes, my teacher used to say Charlotte starts well, full of enthusiasm and unique ideas but other projects take her focus off completing her work 🙄. Let me know when you got a latest piece on your blog 🙋🏼.

    • Hi Charlotte! Thank you so much for your interest!
My musical work is mainly based on my background in the electronic music scene from years ago. I’m using a lot of analog and digital synths, samplers, pianos or anything interesting I can find in my neighbourhood. But I have a very wide music taste; I wrote/write pop, funk, soul, electronic songs…
The last years I’m influenced by the work of Jóhann Jóhannsson, an Icelandic composer, and the film scores of Atticus Ross and Trent Reznor.

Right now I’m still waiting to record vocals on a lot of songs. I’m hoping to post some of the results on SoundCloud very soon. I’ll keep you posted.

    • Thank you, David. It’s a pencil drawing of Mr. Bowie, made by an art student.
Let’s hope Mr. Bowie’s tests in the hospital will be showing good results…

    • Thank you so much for your kind comment and concern, my dear friend!
Mr. Bowie says “Meow!” and sends his regards!

  9. Not really up to speed with all the techo stuff, but you do know that the most important person here is Mr Bowie, right?! LOL (Sorry Herman!) I’ve been thinking about him, so nice to see a photo and to know he is ok. Hope the next hospital visit goes well.

    • Hi Jill! Thank you so much for your kind comment and concern!
You’re absolutely right, and thanks for reminding me, Mr. Bowie is indeed the most important person on this blog. I’ll keep it in mind… 🙂

    • Hi Jackie! Thank you so much for your kind comment and concern! And thanks for hanging around all these years. Much appreciated, my dear friend!

    • Hi there! Welcome on HoB and thank you for following the blog. Much appreciated!
I’m going to try to get some of my songs on line (asap) via a SoundCloud account. I’ll keep you posted.

  10. Hello from Sydney today Herman & Mr Bowie! Your musical endeavors sound awesome all-be-it Greek to me 😀 I popped over to Spitfire and randomly selected. I listened to some fantastic orchestral sounds by Olafur, a fellow from Iceland I’ve learned. Maybe not your cup of tea and a bit sedate for me this morning but gorgeous too. Really happy for your news Mr Bowie. I can’t imagine your nap spot to be too comfortable but then again, you seem too be happily resting! Keep healing well little one. Cheers! x B

  11. Glad to hear that Mr. Bowie is making progress. Your ‘working in the box’ style is definitely inspired by your amazing studio technician. Good for you. Just follow Mr. Bowie’s lead and you will be grand. Best wishes to both of you.
