Newsflash #23

Update on Mr. Bowie. I was so tired after all the different procedures of treating Mr. Bowie’s eye problem over the last five months. It felt like we were spinning our wheels and getting nowhere. I decided to start looking for a second opinion. By pure chance, I found a veterinary ophthalmology specialist with an impressive international reputation in a town not far away.

Mr. Bowie underwent a long radical surgery today. They performed a conjunctivoplasty and all went well. In combination with new medicines he should fully recover. Thank goodness. Hang in there, my furry friend!

Enjoy this beautiful day, my friends, wherever you are. Peace, love and understanding.

  1. Mr. Bowie looks mildly disgusted but content with that cone. Here’s to the new procedure and full recovery. Time for chocolate, espresso and catnip treats.

  2. Awwww poor little guy going through all that. It reminds me of when I had Apricat of blessed memory (a huge pink Maine Coon) and he blocked up three times and couldn’t pee, and vets flapped their hands at it with food and special litter and all, but finally one said “I can do this surgery and he’ll never have trouble again.” And he didn’t, though it was very undignified for him and made my boyfriend of the time cross his legs. I hope Mr. Bowie is fixed for good now too!

    • Oh… thank you very much for your kind comment, my dear friend! Keeping our fingers and paws crossed for Mr. Bowie!

  3. Mr. Bowie, What a trooper you have been through all of this. We are fortunate to have a veterinary school just about 30 minutes from where we live. The best news is, you should make a full recovery, get out of that cone, and then you and your human can get back to your normal lives. Sending lots of purrs and prayers for a quick recovery. • Hi Sarah! Mr. Bowie hates that cone! The vet told me it can take 3 days for a cat to get used to the cone.
Thank you for your comment, my dear friend!

  8. I am glad you found a specialist for Mr. Bowie, Herman! The Cats of Salmon Brook Farms all send their best to their Belgian brother, and wish him a speedy recovery. And we wish you many dark chocolates and espresso, Herman. You have been through a lot!

    • Hi Lavinia! Thank you so much for your kind comment! I was so tired of seeing no progress in his healing process. Now I got a good feeling and I think I made the right decision.
Mr. Bowie says “Meow!” and sends his regards to everyone at Salmon Brook Farms!

  9. ” Oh that cone is such a misery for me “, says Mr.Bowie in this picture. Yet he seems to be a very patient patient, oopsy….. Moshu didn’t help me with misspelling here, while she is listening to the News of Mr.Bowie. All paws and fingers available in our household are being crossed, can’t wait to uncross them. Moshu says Meow to Mr.Bowie.

    • Hi Cornelia! Thank you so much for your heart warming comment! Keeping all our fingers and paws crossed. But I got a good feeling right now…
Mr. Bowie says “Meow!” and sends his regards!

    • Thank you very much for your kind comment, my friend! Let’s keep our fingers and paws crossed but I believe we are heading in the right direction.

    • Oh yes, he was looking and feeling very sad yesterday evening. Thank goodness he’s doing much better today! Thank you very much for your kind comment!

    • Thank you so much, Christel. Hartelijk bedankt. Vandaag gaat het al heel wat beter met onze vriend. Hij heeft nog wel last met eten en drinken door die vervelende kraag…

  11. Oh, that poor little cat. He looks so miserable and he’s been through so much. He and you must be so over it now. Hang in there, Herman. Sending best wishes and virtual pats to Mr Bowie.

  12. I’m so glad that you and Mr Bowie finally found the right treatment. I hope he heals well and feels better very soon. 🙂
Little Monkey is at the vets right now – she’s just had a large lump removed from her eyelid and will come home later today with her own bucket (Cone of Shame!) just like Mr Bowie. They can commiserate together! 🙂

  13. MEWYAY!!! I’m so relieved you found someone who can help our darling Mr. Bowie. Healing purrs and love sent his way and here’s hoping for a speedy recovery. Indulge in some nip and chocolate, you both have been through so much these past months.

    • Thank you very much for your kind comment. We fully agree with your conclusion about the nip and chocolate… 😉
Mr. Bowie says “Meow!” and sends his regards!

  14. That’s really lucky you found that vet ophthal specialist! I met one once at my work, and she told me there are only three (or maybe it was 5?) vet ophthalmologists in all of Australia!
All the best for a smooth recovery here on in 🙂

    • Wow…!! Only 3 or 5…!? I only have to drive 20 minutes to find one… 😉
Thank you very much for your concern and kind comment!
Mr. Bowie says “Meow!” and sends his regards!

  15. Oh Herman I am so happy for you an especially Mr. Bowie. The cone is an annoyance but please tell him it doesn’t spoil his dignity one bit, he is still handsome. I don’t know what I would have done without the opthamologist I took Miss Dolly to; the first diagnosis was cancer and that was not the problem at all. Please do celebrate with appropriate treats all round.

    • Hi Angela! Thank you so much for your kind and heart warming comment! Mr. Bowie hates that cone… It was a long journey but right now I got a good feeling.
Please join us and celebrate with nip, chocolate and espresso’s!
Mr. Bowie says “Meow!” and sends his regards!

  16. All the best to you and Mr. Bowie and it’s good you searched out a second opinion. And it went well, the best news. Hope the poor baby doesn’t have to stay in the cone too long. 😦

    • Hi there, my dear friend! Thank you so much for your concern, tweet and kind words! Mr. Bowie hates that cone. The vet told me it takes 3 days to get used to it… But I don’t want to try it out myself… 😉
Mr. Bowie says “Meow!” and sends his regards!

  17. I cannot read all the numerous comments above, so forgive me if I am repetitious! 5 months with a problem of health is a big strain and frustration. Happy you could find someone who could cure Mr. Bowie. Hope he has a speedy recovery.

  18. How lucky to have found someone so skilled that works near you! I hope dear Bowie heals soon, it’s hard to see him in his cone, I hope he does not mind it too much. Sending hugs to both of you and let us know how it all goes!

    • Hi Letizia! Thank you so much for your concern and kind words! Mr. Bowie hates that cone. The vet told me it takes 3 days to get used to it. Right now, Mr. Bowie’s having a hard time to eat and drink in a proper way. But I’m so glad to see we’re going in the right direction, finally…
Mr. Bowie says “Meow!” and sends his regards!

    • Oh yes… thank you so much, Charlotte! We’re both so tired after all this time but I got a good feeling after the surgery. Keeping our fingers and paws crossed…

  19. I am so happy you found the right doctor for Mr. Bowie. I have no idea what that procedure involves, but hopefully it wasn’t too traumatic for you. (Mr. Bowie appears to be the strong, silent type.) Best wishes for a speedy recovery

    • It was a very complicated procedure, a bit difficult to explain in this post. I’m so glad that we seems to be going in the right direction after all this time…
Thank you so much for your concern and kind comment. This really means a lot to me.

  20. Oh I should have read this blog post FIRST but I read the follow-up first…….now I see what you did for Mr. Bowie – brilliant you found a specialist and equally brilliant that they have helped Mr. Bowie. Now let’s hope this heals up and he will never have to go through the discomfort again (or that cone!). Sending him healing POTP…………and a hug for you too!

    Pam and Teddy too

Mr. Bowie says “Meow” and sends his regards!

  21. Oh lovely Mr. Bowie! I am sorry you had to deal with all these things, but at the end, you are fine now and I hope you get well soon too. You know you are in my heart, 🙂 Love, nia

Mr. Bowie says “Meow!” and sends his regards!
