Newsflash #17

Have patience, Mr. Bowie! It looks like patience is a key factor in the slow healing process of Mr. Bowie’s eye. We went to the Veterinary Hospital for another check up and it looks like we’re making advancements. Mr. Bowie needs to take his medicines for at least another week. Thank goodness we’re moving in the right direction.

The summer season started with a dangerous heat wave in this part of the world. Finally, after this heavy heat of summer our prayers were answered with rain showers. Watch out, Mr. Bowie, a table surface becomes slippery when it first rains after a long dry period.

Enjoy this beautiful day, my friends, wherever you are. Peace, love and understanding.

  2. Glad to hear Mr. Bowie is on the mend, Herman! A sore eye, especially in the heat, isn’t fun at all. Glad you got some rain finally.

We had a few days in the 90 degree range here recently, and are now back in cool and mid 70s by late afternoon type of weather. The cats are more active again. 🙂

    • Hi Lavinia! We’re having one of the driest period in years. Several plants died in my garden. And there’s an emergency measure from the government, it’s forbidden to water the plants…

I’m so happy to see that Mr. Bowie’s is getting better, finally after 2 weeks of medication…

      • Sorry to hear you are having severe drought conditions, Herman. We are out of drought here, for now, but our hot and dry season is coming up. I save water from changing out the cat water bowls and use that for “spot watering”.

Glad to hear Mr. Bowie is on the mend! Some of those infections can be really hard to get rid of. Some of the stubborn ones can result in “dry eye” in the previously affected eye, and may require lubricating eye drops, or artificial tears.

All the best to you and Mr. Bowie today, and every day! 🙂

        • Thank you very much for your comment, Lavinia! Thank goodness for the rain showers today and the following days. We can use the extra water outside…
Mr. Bowie says “Meow!” and sends his regards!

    • Hi Jill! Oh yes, I’m so happy to see he’s getting better…

  4. Mr. Bowie, we are super excited that you’re getting better. Hang in there and take your meds like a good boy! Your dad has been very concerned so we’re sure he’s smiling now.

    • Oh yes! I’m so glad we can see Mr. Bowie’s going in the right direction. So hard that it takes so long to get there…

  5. So glad to read that there is progress, even if only a tiny bit.

  6. Oh My poor old boy – you have had a rough tine of it lately. I’m so pleased to hear that something is finally working. Yay! All the best Mr Bowie 🙂

  7. I’m so glad to read the good news about Bowie. He deserves his own special brand of kitty healing. Love and pets to him.

Herman, be careful what you wish for. We have had far too much rain and cool weather in June. I’m thinking of building Ark II. If you could tell that dry spell to come over to the north central U.S., I’d much appreciate it! 🙂

  8. Progress at last! Hooray! Great news Mr. Bowie. Espresso, dark chocolate and catnip all around.

  9. That’s so great that his eye is healing and he’s on the road to recovery. And rain showers to break the heat (I hope) and water your garden. Summer is getting better! Enjoy every minute, you and Mr. Bowie and your family.

    • Thank you very much, my friend. Glad we had some rain the last days, it is really necessary for our gardens…
Let’s us hope Mr. Bowie’s health will keep going in the right direction. The whole situation is so stressful…

    • Oh yes! Let’s hope everything will be alright next week. I’m feeling sad myself, maybe I need an extra espresso to cheer me up… 😉

    • Thank you so much, my dear friend. Glad you liked the photographs!
Mr. Bowie says “Meow!” and sends his regards!

    • Everyone was very happy when it started to rain. It is really necessary; a lot of plants and flowers died in my garden. The next days will be filled with rain showers…
I’m so glad Mr. Bowie is finally getting better. It’s so stressful at this moment. Thank goodness we got treats for the cat and chocolate for the human! 😉

Mr. Bowie says “Meow!” and sends his regards way up to the North!

  11. Mr. Bowie so very glad that things are healing 🙂 You look so Zen there on your water kissed table.

  12. Hello Herman and Bowie…I was just looking in to see if there are any updates… As for our home front, Bagheera agreed to let me submit a portrait for the Fine Arts competition at the MN State Fair. We will know next week if he makes it through the first round of judging. (Is the judge a CAT person or DOG person?…or NEITHER!) 🙂

    • Hi Christine! I’m wishing you good luck in the competition. I’m sure I would vote for the Bagheera portrait!
Unfortunately, we keep having problems with Mr. Bowie’s eye. We’re trying another combination of medicines but it looks like a surgery will be necessary…

      • Oh dear…I am sorry to hear that a surgery may be necessary…would it be possible to mail Mr. Bowie a care package? I don’t know how you feel about sharing his address. I know he enjoys his privacy…

    • Thank you so much, my friend! He still needs his medication, let’s hope he will get better soon…
      Mr. Bowie says “Meow!”

  13. gulp! It’s been so long from this post and I’ve read the last few more recent messages. Sounds rough. I know with your TLC, Mr Bowie has the best Vet and chance at relief. I hope it’s not surgery but if it goes that way, I will be wishing with my whole heart that all is fine again. Thinking of you both with lot’s of love xo Boomdee

    • Hi Boomdee! Thank you so much for this heartwarming comment.
Today, we went to the hospital for a check up on his eye condition. Finally, for the first time in a month, there was an improvement. We’re keeping our fingers and paws crossed and are hoping he’s going in the right direction. He still needs to take all the medication (and his treats afterwards…).
Looking forward to post that Mr. Bowie is fully healed… Paws and fingers crossed!

      • Prachtig !! Thanks so much for sharing your news Herman, we’ll all keep our fingers and paws crossed here too. I’m having quite the day. A few weeks ago I learned the store I work at was closing, I’d be out of a great job. Tonight I learned the stores been bought by a co-worker, so maybe I’ll still have a job and now your good news too! Ik ben zo blij ❤ Boomdee

        • Oh Boomdee, I’m keeping my fingers crossed and hoping you can keep your job! Thank goodness a co-worker bought the store…
I’m having my first morning Nespresso while Mr. Bowie is checking out the garden. It looks like we’re going to have a fine summers day…

  14. Mr. Bowie, we are dancing all around ‘cuz we’re happy you’re finally showing some improvement. It’s not fun being sick, is it? We know Herman has been really worried about you. We hope you jump up in his lap now and then just to purr and tell him you love him. We do that to Mom and she likes it. (Unless we jump on her at 3 in the morning! MOL!!!) Keep improving and send some rain our way, but keep enough for yourselves so the catnip grows.
    Stereo purrs……..Hemingway and Steinbeck

    • Hi there, my dear friends! I’m so glad Mr. Bowie’s condition is finally improving after a month of medication… Let’s keep our fingers and paws crossed so that a surgery isn’t necessary. I really hope to post some good news somewhere during the next week!
Mr. Bowie’s catnip plants are really big! I think we have enough for 2 more cats… 😉 But I’m not sure if it’s legal to send you guys that stuff via mail… 😉

Hope you’re having a wonderful day, my friends. Mr. Bowie says “Meow!” and sends his regards!

PS: Don’t wake up your Mom so early in the morning/night, unless you are very hungry, of course…

  15. LIKEs didn’t seem to stick the first time around. I did want you to know that we’re sending lots of love, hugs, belly rubs, head butts, and positive thoughts to you from San Diego.

    • Thank you so much, my dear friend. Thank you for hanging around all these years. Much appreciated!
Mr. Bowie says “Meow!” and sends his regards!

      I’m working on a new blog-post because it’s Mr. Bowie’s Gotcha-Day today! We’re together for 8 wonderful years! 🙂
