Summer 2016

Worst. Summer. Ever. I’m having the worst summer ever? June recorded as one of the wettest and dullest starts to summer ever. The weatherman predicted persistent, heavy showers with the risk of thunder and hail for the next weeks. Summer on hold, forget the sun cream. The majority of Belgians don’t believe they will have a hot summer.

I love to eat breakfast outside and it has to be a quality time. Every day we have plenty of opportunities to feel sad, get angry, stressed or offended. Thank goodness the sun was shining this morning. Enjoy this beautiful day, my friends, wherever you are. Peace, love and understanding.

  1. I recently read this summer has been globally the hottest on record. Hot air holds more moisture but has it’s limit so then comes rain. Here we have been having weeks of rain followed by days of humidity as high as 97%. No one goes outside during such days. I wind up having my coffee sitting on a bench under my living room window in the morning because everything is soggy outside. I envy your lavender, that photo of Mr. Bowie enjoying a roll is beautiful, makes me think of impressionist paintings.

    • Mr. Bowie thinks he’s living in the South of France!

I am totally convinced something is wrong with the climate and we need to fix it. Now!

      • You are not mistaken Herman. As a pilot I studied a lot of weather, also i worked for the US Navy doing mapping of Pacific storms while working my way through univerity. I can see clearly the change.

  2. Awww, look at Mr. Bowie relaxing in his garden. I hope your weather gets better to the point that you can enjoy your gardens more. Thanks for peace and understanding, cos we sure do need it over here right now. Some days my garden is the only thing that makes any sense to me. I think I will lay down and roll over in it, like Mr. Bowie! πŸ™‚

    • I was shocked by what’s happening in the U.S. of A. lately. Gun-control laws and ownership restrictions are changing but clearly remain insufficient.

      • Some things are changing and obviously nothing is working in that regard. What’s not changing is that there are still people willing to kill others in the name of whatever kind of heated passion they are feeling at the time. It’s a sad time for us here. 😦

        • The gun issue is something people over here completely don’t understand. I mean, why walking around on the streets carrying a loaded gun? How did the idiots of the US National Rifle Association (NRA) become such a powerful and effective lobbying organisation?

          • It’s part of our culture and most of our citizens agree with the right to bear arms, me among them. But it has gotten to be a different kind of thing, that which was intended to be good and protective, set up in a time when we needed that. Now so many guns are used to settle things that should be settled with words. The NRA is part of this culture, but not the cause of it; it’s what people want, to be able to have and carry guns. I agree with that, except I don’t believe that the big capacity guns that can kill a hundred people in a few seconds belong in the hands of civilians. It’s a complicated thing, complicated by many things, and has gone so awry now that there doesn’t seem to be a solution. We say that guns don’t kill people; people kill people, and if they don’t have guns, they’ll find other ways. That’s true, but we have too many people who want to kill others and guns are so easy to get. So much of what we have now are problems with judgement, not guns, but the guns are there, and easy to get.

            • Thanks for your view and explanation. I fully respect your opinion on this matter, my friend. You are so right, it is a very complicated thing.

            • For most Europeans it’s hard and difficult to understand how Americans think and feel about those issues…

  3. Oh yes, it is raining today also, and thundering. We have had rain almost every day, flowers in the garden are on the ground. Plumtrees are empty. I don’t remember summer like this. Did you have really cold winter as we had?

  4. Seeing Mr Bowie always puts a smile on my face πŸ™‚

Every morning, I sit outside with my puppy and have my coffee. We look at the garden together. Very meditative. It’s a good way to start the day. I look at what she is looking at. Dogs and cats remind us to slow down, don’t they?

Wishing you many good mornings…. and hopefully some sun.

  5. Mr. B., that photo of you in front of the lavender is exquisite. Great contrast between the green and your luxurious furs. Sorry about the “no summer” summer. We know about that. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

  6. “There AIN’T no CURE for the summertime BLUES!” Mr. Bowie seems to be making the best of it and enjoying the non-summer summer. Doesn’t sound like anything dark chocolate, quad espresso and the recording studio won’t take care of. Hot a dry out here. It’s supposed to get up to 40ΒΊ C this week.

    • We had a wonderful day today, thank you! But temperatures will drop 10 degrees Celsius the next days… 😦
Meanwhile Mr. Bowie is having a great time this evening chasing bugs and moths…

  7. We had a rough start to summer here too – so much rain we began to grow moss (haha). Now it’s hot and sunny and super humid. Things are so different with the weather there’s no doubt that things are amiss (our fault of course). Dusty Springfield’s song keeps playing over and over in my head these days……….”what the world needs now, is love, sweet love – not just for some but for EVERYONE”……..Mr. Bowie feels the love, so does Sam…… humans should follow suit! I’m having a bit of dark choc and espresso in honor of you and Mr. B !!!!

    Hugs, Pam (and Sam)

    • Thank you for this warm comment, Pam. Hope you and Sam had a wonderful day!
      Mr. Bowie says “Meow!”

  8. I’m so glad you had some sunshine! It does wonders for our mood and it seems Mr. Bowie is living proof! Wonderful shot of him stretching out in front of the lavender. ❀️

  10. Have a peaceful day filled with cat treats, espresso and dark chocolate, Mr. Bowie and Herman. We are having a cool, rainy start to July over here. It may clear up (and hopefully dry up) enough this afternoon to go pick more blueberries.

Reading down through the comments I can see other worries going on. Yes, bad things are going on here in the U.S., and around the world. The issues are complicated, and I don’t think will be resolved any time soon, perhaps not in our lifetime. All we can do is make peace, light and do small acts of kindness where we can. Sometimes those small acts of kindness will spawn the same in other people. Enough of us do these, they may spread, driving the darkness out before them.

    • Thank you so much for this warm comment and your thoughts about all these complicated issues mentioned above. I always say ‘Live and let live’ and I wish everything would be so much easier to deal with.

Did you say blueberries, Lavinia? I just ate my daily portion. I love blueberries, especially on vanilla ice cream! πŸ˜‰

Hope you have a marvellous Sunday!

  11. One challenge we have in these difficult and confusing times is to ENJOY ourselves where ever possible and help others enjoy themselves too. Mr. Bowie is the master of BOTH! ❀ ❀ ❀

  12. Great photos of Bowie! Give him a little tummy rub for me.

Sorry you are having an icky summer so far. Rain, rain, go away…stay away from Belgium today and every day!

  13. Please feel free, to send some rain over here , just once a week, or at night, what ever you can do is fine with us. After two months of May gray and June gloom, where it is really gray all day long, finally the summer has begun and Moshu and I take naps out side, reading a book ” The Art of purring”. Mr.Bowie looks just so happy in front of your blooming lavender, enjoying a little sun. Greetings from here from Moshu and your reader

  14. Glad to see Mr. B happy and content, hope the nice weather holds out! Le Tour is a nice distraction from the rain. Enjoy your summer Herman, everyone. πŸ™‚

  15. Hello your Royal Fluffiness! ❀ What a bummer about summer. It seemed muggy and humid in Paris and London. Looks like Mr Bowie has the answer to the weather. Paws in the air, raise the roof…yah…yah. ❀ k] ,.b

      • ! You know what? That postcard was still in my handbag when we boarded Eurail for France because a ticket agent told me there was a post on the train…Nope! We had lovely service in Premier and the gal there offered to post it when they returned to London. What a doll hey?! Cheers!

        • What a service and lovely story… Have a nice day, Boomdee. I’m having another espresso right now and Mr. Bowie is chasing butterflies outside.

  17. Summer goes on between autumn and spring days πŸ™‚ Right now it is cool evening… Just a few weeks ago it was toooo hot! But now, as if summer goes to be end… Climate/weather changed in everywhere… But I am so glad the sun was with you lovely Mr. Bowie, your human captured amazing photograph, I wanted to give a big hug to you πŸ™‚ Blessing and Happiness, Thank you, Love, nia

    • Thank you so much, Nia! We had a wonderful time yesterday.
      Mr. Bowie says “Meow!”

PS: I do believe there’s something wrong with our climate… 😦
