Insects

Substitutes. Mr. Bowie didn’t show up to the daily photo shoot because of his busy schedule. I had to look for cheaper substitutes. Insect photography is very challenging. Trying to take the insects sharp, and try to get a nice depth of field with it at the same time is very difficult, especially without a macro lens.
The cheapest solution: I’m going to stick with Mr. Bowie. But how do you get cats to actually show up on time?

  1. I am amazed you got those shots without a macro lens.
As for Mr. Bowie… well, that’s the price you pay for working with creative people…. er, felines!

    • I shot about 50 photos but only these two were acceptable to me. Back to Mr. Bowie tomorrow… if he shows up!

  2. Nice reading about you Herman, you are a great photographer

Thanks for visiting my blog. Be in touch. Browse through the category sections, I feel you may find something of your interest.

  3. I think that grasshopper is posing JUST for you……great photos – both. I know why Mr. Bowie didn’t show up – I just saw a pile of photos on Confessions of a Cat Woman’s blog – I’d SWEAR it was Bowie in all of them!

p.s. chocolate? Did somebody say chocolate?

  4. I like the purple flowers and bee! I guess you have to let Bowie off the hook. Sometimes cats are persnickety!! Smiles to you and pat Bowie on the head from me. I like cats!

  5. We think those are great photos, and that second little morsel looks mighty tasty. Though, we did miss seeing Mr. B. Purrs and hugs, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Josette

  6. You sell yourself short my friend, your photo’s are delightfully fresh. Is it lavender you made your home on this shoot? Mr Bowie’s too busy…hehe, cat’s can not be expected to keep to a schedule I suppose. Unless it’s dinner time of course, then they seem to know.

  7. I love the grasshopper photo- great colors.

Maybe Mr. Bowie was watching Wimbledon. Perhaps you could schedule the shoots in between matches?

  8. I have tons of lavender at my door but never saw a grasshopper there! Terrific job getting a shot that set him off from all the greenery.

Bowie’s just playing hard to get.

  9. Pictures of bugs must be way harder to do than those of that glorious cat, but are just as excellent! Yea, you may have to raise his pay……………..
