2012 Phenomenon

What if… The 2012 phenomenon comprises a range of eschatological beliefs according to which cataclysmic or transformative events will occur on 21 December 2012. This date is regarded as the end-date of a 5,125-year-long cycle in the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar. Various astronomical alignments and numerological formulae have been proposed as pertaining to this date, though none have been accepted by mainstream scholarship.

A New Age interpretation of this transition is that this date marks the start of time in which Earth and its inhabitants may undergo a positive physical or spiritual transformation, and that 2012 may mark the beginning of a new era. Others suggest that the 2012 date marks the end of the world or a similar catastrophe.

What about the popular link between the Maya and end-time prophecy? According to Mayan calculations, the current cycle of the world is due to end in December 2012. The end of the world is fast approaching. All our thoughts will be lost in time. Like tears in rain. Goodbye cruel world.

  1. Tears in the rain indeed! 😉 Get you, Rutger Hauer. The mexican tourist board admitted they made the whole thing up to attract more tourists. Apart from that, the ‘translation’ is impossible because no one has deciphered the ciphers in question. So you can all relax, roll around on the floor and maybe sniff some catnip to calm our need to worry about something we can’t control.

  2. I thought the guy just ran out of space on the rock. 🙂 Actually, there is a connection with the 2012 event and our “fourth river” in Pittsburgh, which is entirely underground, flowing under the two which form the Ohio, but it also feeds our signature fountain which will be flowing with healing waters after this event. I’ll report on the events as they occur.

  3. Oh crap, hey “Blossum, get off mommy’s daytimer, I need to write something down”

Well Blossum and Bowie will still be here, they have 9 lives, I guess I’ll just leave the giant bag of crunchies open then.

    • Sometimes I’m questioning myself if HoB is ‘blogworthy’. Reading your nice comment made me feel good. Thank you very much.
Trust me, we’ll both be here in 2013, (if the Maya got it all wrong…). 😉
