A Beautiful Card

Vandaag heb ik een mooie kaart aangekregen van mijn dierenartsen. Dit ter nagedachtenis van Jones. Ik moest toch weer even een traan wegpinken door dit mooie gebaar. Dank u wel Anne & Guy.

I got this beautiful card from the vet’s office in my mailbox today. It’s a remembrance card in memory of Jones, wishing us strenght. A nice gesture, thank you Anne & Guy.

  1. It’s lovely that your vet sent the card….a kindness that not all would bother extending but it’s appreciated so much. Our vet did the same when our previous cat Eddie passed away. It’s a cute drawing too.

    • It felt so good getting this card in the mail. Going to show it to my dad tomorrow. And like Madame Weebles says, the drawing looks a lot like Bowie! Coincidence…??

    • Maybe the vet did that on purpose? I’m going to ask him next week, I have to go for Bowie’s annual check up.

  2. New follower and dankuwel for visiting my blog! I had to comment on this because it is such a kindness to have understanding from a vet. I am so sorry for the distress and loss of a beloved companion but I admire such a lovely card!

The poem they chose reminds me of something I came across in a book: I find this a comfort in English, but I asked a friend to translate it into Dutch (not Flemish, sorry):

    Ik weet het niet zeker,
    maar toch heb ik hoop
    als mijn tijd gekomen is
    dat uit het donker
een kleine kat mij tegemoet rent.

The original is by Pam Brown.

    • Thank you very much for such a warm comment. And thank you for the beautiful poem, it is a comfort, also in Dutch. I really appreciate the effort you put into this.

Welcome on HoB. Don’t worry about the Dutch-Flemish translation. There’s no real difference between the two languages.

  3. It’s always nice to receive a note from the vet, or close friends after the passing of a dear friend. It’s nice to know people care about you and your furry friends. Here’s a poem a friend of mine sent me after Gabriel passed. I think you might have read it before, but I feel I must share it with you. I love reading it from time to time, it helps a little. What a beautiful poem….

And God asked the feline spirit
Are you ready to come home?
Oh, yes, quite so, replied the precious soul
And, as a cat, you know I am most able
    To decide anything for myself.

Are you coming then? asked God.
    Soon, replied the whiskered angel
    But I must come slowly
For my human friends are troubled
For you see, they need me, quite certainly.

But don’t they understand? asked God
    That you’ll never leave them?
That your souls are intertwined. For all eternity?
That nothing is created or destroyed?
It just is….forever and ever and ever.

    Eventually they will understand,
    Replied the glorious cat
For I will whisper into their hearts
That I am always with them
I just am….forever and ever and ever.

    • Dear Beatriz, yes I do remember that beautiful poem. It meant a lot to me reading it again today. It made me feel better because we still miss our beloved Jones. I’m going to cherish this poem. Thank you very much for these kind words. Take care.
